Rifle Scopes Top tier scope recommendation

I would have agreed with you before doing the K540i/ZCO side by side. I think it's another tier better than ZCO, Tangent, Minox ZP5, and the previous Kahles models. I completely understand that you're doubtful of what I'm saying. Find one out there at a match and do a side by side for yourself. I know that's hard to believe. But think about it like this- you wouldn't think it subjective if I said the K540i looked noticeably better than a lower tier scope. Maybe a Burris XTR III, Gen 2 Razor, or Mark 5. It would make sense. Then isn't it possible that what we accept as top tier optics might some day become second tier? At some point couldn't an optics manufacturer build a product distinguishably better? One that has image quality so good it is better than our current top tier and it's not even remotely subjective? That's the K540i.
Dude just stop. I've literally had them all side but side and myself and many others feel the way I expressed. All hard shilling like this dies is torn people off. Literally none of the alpha scopes just blow the others out of the water. You sound ignorant and no one is going to bother considering your opinion when you are this way. Go hang out in the dnt/arken sections where your approach fits in

Savage AICS DBM choices?

I dont have the bottom in a stock yet. I have a ton of different projects going this summer that are pulling me in 20 different directions. Now that my bandsaw is fixed, I need to pick up a couple of long compression pattern routing bits so I can just pattern out the blank shape with less screwing around.

Here are a few pics of where Im at.

I spent a good deal of time figuring out what the height of the bottom needs to be in relation to the action so it will actually feed as Im building a stock 100% from scratch.

K2faoAj.jpg

I worked it out so that when the mag is fully inserted and it pressed into its most upward position at can be, it wont jam, but when the mag is hanging in a normal position it still feeds without issue.

Bolt coming in over the top of the mag when fully inserted and Im holding it up.

Bolt face engagement on the round. It feeds 100% no issues.

LRI Pillars cut to height and ready for inlet. Dont mind the angle on the front one. Some idiot did that. Wont effect end result as they are buried in Devcon anyway. The rear pillar has to be cut like that so the bolt release works correctly. Its a Savage thing. I like the pillars, but I dont know if I would use them again on a Savage action.

Ive tested with ARC, Accurate and MDT mags. All work with no issues. I cant stress how important it is to get the mag to action height correct for consistent feeding that never fails. This little exercise took me a few hours to work out to get it where I wanted it.

As far fit with a standard Savage cut bottom end? I dont have a pic of it, but I did set the Atlas next to my old Boyds stock that was setup for Savage mags, and it is very close to fitting. You would have to go in with a file and maybe a Dremel (carefully) and open the hole up a bit to get it to slide in. You would also need to check your bottom to mag to action height to ensure that it will feed reliably. Its easier to sneak up on this, slowly removing material until its perfect, rather than just making a cut and having to fill/shim/fix when you find out the bottom metal is too deep in the stock.
What I'll probably do is get my local shop to inlet the 10fp hs precision so I don't have to worry about it. Space is a bit limited and doing the gunsmithing in my dining room may not be ideal. This is the atlas works correct? The other option would be a ptg correct?

Reloading and Tuning my 16" AR-10

I've measured a bunch of Factory loaded ammo and found the numbers can be about .003" plus or minus from the 1.630"SAMMI minimum. Just as you found, Factory loaded ammo shoulder datum length does vary between manufacturers.

If you run into someone with a 1.630" GO headspace gauge, take a measurement of of it with your Derrico Comparator and note it down.

I wouldn't go out and buy a Go headspace gauge.

A few years ago, I was fortunate to have a Gunsmith friend who let me visit his shop with my comparators and let me take measurements off of his 308, 30/06 and 223 Rem. go gauges.

You should be in the ballpark with measurements off of factory ammo and not bumping case shoulder way too much.

I was just curious how you got your numbers since many new reloaders get confused with numbers off of a comparator and trying to compare it to SAAMI numbers.

New 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge

Got the area 419 mount in, what a superb piece that is. Still waiting on small parts, but it looks at home with the clipon. Gotta get this stupid brake off and then I can mount one of my cans up and shoot it.

It was a bitch getting mine removed. Fairly certain they just went to town with red loctite. Did both heat and water not knowing WTF they used and reading other people's trials doing this.

Also fucking Hux uses 1 & 1/16" wrench so you're gonna need a larger crescent or hopefully you go larger than the standard 1" wrench found in most sets.

Rifle Scopes Top tier scope recommendation

Got a ZCO 5-27 the other month. Frankly, not a huge fan of it. MPTC2 Reticle is too thick at max power IMO, and I hate locking turrets. At the high end of optics, glass quality is very subjective. Hate on me all you want, I still prefer the S&B PMII and NF ATACR. Looked through a new March PRS scope recently and was very impressed with it. That might be my next scope I try.

Rifle Scopes Top tier scope recommendation

At the top tier of the scope market which is where the scopes being discussed i think it's honestly disingenuous to try to make a blanket statement of one scope is unequivocally better than another optically. They are all close enough optically that one users eye is going to be see one as better then the other. As far as other features go that's primarily personal opinion on what you want /need. I prefer the kahles parallax as a lefty but I also know that doesn't make it better then any of the others just like my tangents turrets feel better than am the rest to me but again doesn't make it better.
