I'm stumped...bolt won't close

Just to chime in, this barrel WAS NOT chambered by Bartlein. This was done by a gunsmith nearly a decade ago.

I think the real culprit was a carbon ring and a tight chamber. I cleaned the carbon out again just for good measure and did some load development this morning. Looks like a Bartlein doing Bartlein things...thanks @Frank Green for your excellent work

Why do people load so hot?

There are probably two basic reasons. The first is "because I can" which needs no explanation. The other is the only gauge on pressure is problems with case/primer so we tend to base maximum pressure based on individual component capability as opposed to the SAAMI pressure rating which is below any case/primer specific limit.

I will also not that some competitions almost require overpressure to be competitive. For instance F-T/R at 1000yds requires 308 Winchester to be loaded at to be competitive.

Why do people load so hot?

People load hot for multiple reasons. Mainly I think now it is the equivalent of cartridge "drag racing." Kind of like "I ran 9's with a stock LS long block and a big turbo," never mind it only lasted 4 passes before popping a ring land, and you blew up 2 long blocks tuning it prior to any passes. And you could have just put in a properly beefed up motor from the beginning for the same price.

If you want to go faster shoot a faster cartridge. The incremental gains from a hotrodding are not worth it.

The prevalence of exceeding safe pressures is extremely high. I shoot a 22 Creed, and looking at the published max and pressure data by Peterson indicates many of the published loads in the 22 Creed thread are potentially WAY overpressure no matter which way you slice it.

Otherwise insignificant things that makes your day.

Just had a guy get pissed at me for cutting me off . I laughed and he responded by throwing an opened soda can at my truck . We were doing 65 so the wind grabbed it . I laughed harder at his fail and he just slobbered in his rage .

M40 front sling swivel question

I can’t help but find this whole swivel business a little sketchy—there’s no shortage of self-proclaimed “smiths” churning out clones. After poking around at a few clones made by friends, I figured it was time to stop guessing. I decided to put my machinist skills to use and built a jig to bend the loops precisely to the dimensions I’ve determined.

Shoot kid in the back of head -pay $4.9 million settlement and all is good !

Fleeing Felon.

Under US Law the fleeing felon rule was limited in 1985 to non-lethal force in most cases by Tennessee v. Garner, 471 U.S. 1. The justices held that deadly force "may not be used unless necessary to prevent the escape and the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious bodily harm to the officer or others."

A police officer may not seize an unarmed, nondangerous suspect by shooting him dead...however...Where the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a threat of serious physical harm, either to the officer or to others, it is not constitutionally unreasonable to prevent escape by using deadly force.

B14r feeding issues

Piggy backing rather than creating another thread.

I swapped my B14R to a Manners T4A with KMW Mk-1 bottom metal. Pillars installed and the action has been bedded just because, and I am happy with it…except about half way through the magazine (factory) the round jams at the breech.
Slight upward pressure on the bottom front of the magazine cures this and it runs an entire mag flawlessly.

I’m still scratching my head and haven’t figured a hands free solution yet, so I am soliciting thoughts.

Shims? Mag latch adjustment? Might the capture feature of the bottom metal be affecting the positioning of the mag?
The soft side of stick on velcro tape. Cut a 1/2" to 1" piece and slap it on the mag body to try and fill the void.

Or get a couple of mags. Mine does same thing with 2 older mags. One works just fine.

Springfield Kuna problems

Well guys, after the announcement of the Kuna, I got pretty excited at the price point. Picked one up, love the gun, it shoots amazing until...
Stove piping, then stove pipe again. I look down and a spring is sitting there with the brass case. The ejector is completely missing.

I call Springfield, they were nice. Obviously, sent in the bolt and 3 weeks later its back with a new ejector. Mind you it has maybe 45 rounds through it total.

Take it out yesterday, 14 rounds in, ejector is sitting on the ground in pieces... now it has a broken ejector again. WTF! I'm pissed and let SA know that. Off to SA goes the bolt again, I told them I want a new bolt and not just an ejector assembly. What a disappointment
That sucks.

If you keep the gun, you may want to just order a few extra bolts and tape one to each of your spare mags.
Frustrating. I thought that system had been proven out before they decided to bring it on board.

Wild ES with Tac 223 Load

Ok, So Im pretty new to loading rifle ammo. Just recently loaded up some 223 rounds for the Ar using Tac. I did some different charges around the lower end of the chart. All rounds loaded function fine and sense its just blaster ammo the accuracy was fine for what its being used for as well. My issue was the ES was 120 fps. I know tac isnt very temp stable but that seems like alot of variance. Im also in AZ so the morning temps were around 78 and midday 101.

What might I be missing thats causing the ES to be so high?
Im using FL sizing die with 21st mandrel about .002 tension with a slight crimp after seating because I was getting some bullet movement when charging rounds.

Loading on a dillon 650 using dillon powder drop.

Im trying to get better at loading these before I try and load some 77gr OTM's

Thanks in advance for any help
Unfortunately you really missed the boat. You told us it's an AR, the powder charge, and your ES, and pretty much nothing else. Yes you did tell us later it a Hornady 55gr FMJ. Without the actual load data, primer, case manufacturer, SD and number of rounds it's impossible to analyze your issue.

What could be the issue? It ranges from your "low charge weight" to "lack of neck tension" to "case capacities" or other issues.
