1st group after bore sight/zeroing scope

That's not a horrible group if that was at 100 yards. First thing I would suggest is using better ammo. Second thing is make yourself a could sandbags if you don't want to spend the money on some. You can use old blue jean legs or socks to fill. You can use dry dirt instead of sand.

Hopefully what you learned when sighting in this rifle will make it go smoother next time.

Why do people load so hot?

I to am new to reloading rifle ammo but to assume that everyone that has more experience then you is a Monkey is pretty silly. Its probably because the book max is way low compared to real world application. Your also posting on the only form that I've ever been on with a huge wealth of good knowledge and very little BS. The assumption that you would loose precision shows your lack of understanding. Accuracy nodes vary with velocity and pushing velocity is a good thing if accuracy and ES are where they need to be. It will allow you to have better accuracy at distance, with less effect on the bullet from environmental conditions.
Because sometimes youz got's to know and there's only one way to find that out.
Darwin called it natural selection.

10 second showdown

I shoot a lot of IDPA and USPSA, and I have never been a fan of downloaded starts.

Less than full capacity on board from holstered is not going to be a likely real world scenario. Making a habit of shooting only two rounds to start with and then reloading right off the bat is going to stick with some people if a stressful situation arises.

If a mandatory reload is going to be part of a drill, at least do it after at least the 8th or 10th round.

Prayer Request Thread

Please pray for us. We had to find a new home for our puppy. He minds me pretty good, but at our store she says she cannot get him to mind. One one hand, I love my wife, and she's one of the hardest working people I know. On the other hand, I don't understand how you can run a business, but not get a 14lb dog to mind you. I'm a weird mess of a mix of incredibly sad and pissed off. And I feel like I shouldn't be mad about this. It's the right thing to do for the dog. But I can't help it, I feel like she just gave up on him and isn't willing to make him mind.

I'm gonna miss the little guy big time. He's curled up right next to me on the couch as I type this. I've had to give away every dog I've ever had due to moving when I was a kid. I figured once we bought our place, I could have a dog. But, that's not the case.

He is going to a great home, a friend from work with lots of property, kids and another dog to play with. So we will have a great life, just without us.

No more animals for me. Too heartbreaking saying goodbye, one way or the other you will always have to do that. And I just can't do it anymore.

Whose barrel is better?

Yeah, I remember that. Well, it was their threads and perhaps a bit of a ham handed owner twisting the shit out of threads that didn't mate properly. And...er, not sure if he used any sort of anti-seize on it.
Yep, there was some contributing factors also, that I forgot. I do remember Ted at ARC went above and beyond to make owner whole, ill remember that when I action shop!

More fun with 308 Win

I hit 2850 with the 180 grain Gamechanger using Power Pro 2000MR, Alpha SRP brass and CCI 450s. I blew my first primer with this load however that piece of brass is on its 15th firing all of which have been over book max. This is from a 20" barrel. Bolt lift and extraction still smooth on the origin action. Accuracy was acceptable at 1" 5 shot group. Several other groups were smaller so will focus on refining those. SDs were all higher than I wanted.

Not another gun wont shoot thread.

Check your bolt lugs to see if there is even wear. If the wear marks aren't even, start by lapping the lugs. Then disassemble your bolt. Without the spring you should be able to see if there is uneven contact on the sear engagement and the sides of the striker under the bolt shroud. Also check firing pin clearance. You may need to have it bushed if it's too loose coming through the bolt face.

If anything is rubbing on the inside of the bolt that really shouldn't be, the rifle will never shoot accurately no matter how many barrels you try. Clearance everything first before you try another barrel.

Why do people load so hot?

@XP1K Those old Speer manuals were HOT. :D

Dad used to just look at whatever was max, and load that. I've had to add cylinder and yoke endshake bearings to two of his old S&W revolvers because he shot them loose in only about 3K rounds.

I'm still sitting on a ton of his old 240gr, .44 Mag loads with 11.0gr Unique. Same for .41 and .357 mag (different charges obviously, but still "max AF". Fortunately I have some Ruger revolvers.

Sane with his .410 shotgun loads with 2400. I've shot I think 8 shells (he gave me about 10 boxes) at snakes etc. around here, and have pierced probably 6 primers.
