Why do people load so hot?

As a reloader for over 50 years I would guess that this started due to flat trajectory helping get hits at longer and unknown ranges. Prior to LRF’s and scopes that could accurately be dialed for range a 400 yard hunting shot was considered very long range. So, limits were pushed to make up for mis guesses of range.

1st group after bore sight/zeroing scope

1. Most of us have shot thousands of rounds. Shooting is a skill - shoot more and it will improve some.

2. You’re most likely not letting the rear bag do the work. You need to put zero input into the gun other than the trigger (don’t grip the gun with trigger hand)

3. Those are actually not bad for hornady - 90% of us are using custom ammo

4. 90% of us are using custom guns - see #3

This above.

And

Have another shooter get behind the rifle to see how it groups for them.

I'm stumped...bolt won't close

Tough call! The more you magnify you see stuff that might not be an issue.

The other hard part about looking at your pic's is.... "what did it look like before the gun had any rounds fired thru it?"

How many rounds are on it?

Is it shooting good?

My one guess is the carbon ring is not causing the issue of leaving marks on the bullet. The throat is undersize on how the reamer cut.

Unless I miss my guess, that little demon is a M60 357 Magnum. I bought one in 2000ish. I finally changed out my front sight a couple years ago to a taller blade so it shot to point of aim (and some better micarta grips). If you don't hit what you are aiming at, you will probably still set it on fire.

6 ARC Upper Build: 18” PVA Osprey (Rifle +2”) + San Tan Tactical Billet Upper + SOLGW M89 Rail

Lever evolution with 87gr Bergers at 2950fps for my hunting load this year.

My steel load currently is with n150 and 100gr Sierra tipped game kings for 2520fps. Raven Rock had this bullet on sale for like 25 cents a piece so I bought 1000. When I'm through with them hopefully the 95gr tipped match kings are back and I'll switch.

Cfe223 works well with 95gr SMKs for 2710fps probably my favorite combo.

6mm ARC for me with my 18" AR lives in the 87 to 95 grain range of bullets, I have a couple 6 creed for heavier and faster.

I use Hornady and Starline, the starline brass is fine but I think I'm on my 5th or 6th reload of it and starting to get chewed up. If I was shooting a bolt gun I'd have alpha. I'm not good enough with an AR to need premium brass in it. ARs are tools for me and sometimes that brass gets left in the desert if I'm chasing something.

Can anyone ID this ammo dispenser?

I’m not one of the vintage experts around here, by far, but were there rifle fired grenades in WW1? Either way, cool piece of history!

Heavily used in ww1 because you could lob grenades I to trenches well beyond throwing range

This is a British “Mills Bomb” with a rod attachment as a launcher in WW1.

Doing conflict archaeology in Combles, France, c.2012, we found loads of these in one small potato field!

OP, have you thought about sending the pix to Ian McCollum at Forgotten Weapons? He loves this stuff!

In terms of “non-military” applications… could be for holding cartridges for a harpoon gun… like a Greener. Would make grabbing the cartridge easier in a pitching boat. Or for a veterinarian or farmer to use in a “Humane Cattle Killer” or similar device.

I would love to know its exact use! It is very cool!

Why do people load so hot?

While much load data is watered down, some isn't. A couple of Alliant's maxes are pretty damn destructive on brass. I never thought I'd toast Lake City 5.56 brass on the 3rd load...but here I am.

One is also assuming that the loads posted by forum members on various sites are true. I would suppose that anywhere from a quarter to half of them are fabricated.

It started about 8-10 years ago when guys began trying to 'out velocity' each other. The practice is now very much like trying to post the tightest groups. As soon as you add the element if competition to it, you have dudes who are willing to sacrifice integrity and/or safety for the accolades of strangers on an internet forum.

There are a few YouTube channels even where guys do almost nothing but live on the edge of pressure and shoot crappy 3-shot groups. At least those ones are usually honest regarding velocity... they're just sacrificing brass for the sake of "like, share, and subscribe".

Why do people load so hot?

The thing is, mostly none of us have pressure testing equipment, and by the time the brass starts to cry uncle we are generally way over pressure.

This is why I like to proof out a new load on the same brass I did load development with by running that 50 peices to death. It Let's me watch the primer pocket long term and see if it's a load I want to go into production with. Let's me check the die setting and compatibility with the chamber long term also.

Ukraine war Bullshit.

Well.

Mixed thoughts about conscription. I volunteered 4-6 months after Vietnam era deadline.

I'll just say conscription, to aid a foreign country is one thing to go all contietchus be about. Not mine.

But turning your back on your own country, well ---- fuck me.

I get not wanting to die for the likes of Z-boy but it's / maybe was, your Damned country.

Should have taken care of Z-boy yourself.
I think Putin screwed up by sending the first troops to kiev. It didn't line up with the objective to protect the eastern provinces.
I understand that a lot of people believe that they should have been left alone after the Minsk Agreement due to being a majority of people being Russian. Now after a couple years of watching poor tactics and failures by the military leadership who would really want to sign up for being a bullet catcher?

Newsom plans to steal the House

So California has Gerymandered all Republican districts out of existance... and has called a special election for November to fill seats in the new districts. Which will tip the House into Democrat hands in as little as three months.

Methinks it's time to find about 10 corrupt democrats in Red States and jail them... and have their seats filled by gubernatorial appointment. Also have Ethics Committee remove about 10 more for violations of stock trading and leaking documents and other crimes.

They want to go Banana Republic... let's go Banana Republic!

Maggie’s Powder Valley Warehouse Burned Down

If your body shop has a fire and inventory's burned and you don't carry a slush fund for emergencies, how quickly are you back up and running? Who funds the rebuild? Who buys the replacement inventory? Are your wholesalers going to put it on a tab? Or do they want money for the inventory you need to replace?
The bank.
Especially for a company with a proven business plan. A short term loan until the insurance is settled. Wholesalers will carry over for a good standing customer in these situations. As for PV I would think that they buy directly from the mfg.
