Considering a 13.9” upper to go with my 18” 6.5 Grendel.. thoughts?

I have 12.5" and 20" because I can.

My sons have 13.9" only, P&W to 16+ with a mount.

The 20" is easier to hit with past 600 - but - on pigs from 0-200 it doesn't matter much other than we use 100 gr ELDX in the 12.5 & 13.9, and I use 123 SST in the 20".

I dunno if you could HUB adapt to use a Dead Air mount & interface with a 13.9", but with some set ups it is conceptually possible.

Firearms TacOps X-Ray 51

I'd like to know how he makes a rifle shoot like that. Wouldn't mind studying under him for a few days.

Nice looking rifle. GLWS.
Great gunsmiths are like great engine builders, you can learn a lot from watching how they do things, but most will never tell you all of the subtle tricks they have that make the extra difference in performance. That’s what keeps them in business….

Rifle Scopes New bushnell XRS3 has illumination!!

Why the fuck and how the fuck are they advertised and marketing new scopes when they can't even answer phones from paying customers for months. There's people who need warranty services that either never find a way to make contact with an actual human at Bushnell or get blown off when someone does answer.
Why? Because new scope sales pay the bills.

Would you get into 6.5 Grendel in 2024?

The 2 Grendel’s I’ve put together in the last couple months. An 18” with Craddock RTR and NightForce NX8 2.5–20x. I just finishing this 13.9” Craddock RTR Pangris. Just ordered the Steiner T6XI 2-5-15x this evening. Both are using adjustable gas blocks and sharing a HUXWRW Flow 762. While I’m sure the 13.9” will be more well rounded, the 18” is just so enjoyable and rewarding to shoot. Both are using Geissele SDE triggers and A5 buffer systems. View attachment 8661690It’s like my MRAD. It’s makes me look like a much better shooter than I am.
How's the accuracy with the RTR 18" barrel?
Thanks

New CHAD clone from Preece.

A friend of mine designed and produced a highly effective muzzle brake for .50cal use and then scaled the design down to smaller calibers. I still have two of them and they are the most effective, least noisy, (to the shooter) brakes I've used to date.

When tested on my 300winmag with a 208gr bullet it went from 35ft-lbs of recoil with no brake, to 10 with the brake. He put some sort mathematical equation to it and determined it was 98% effective at eliminating recoil from gasses exiting the muzzle.

More to the point, I told him he should try for a patent and sell them. He said there wasn't much point in going through the trouble to obtain a patent only to have someone copy it and change one minor detail to get around the patent. Indeed, all is fair in love and war.

6.5 PRC Loads

3 loads under 1 MOA (2 under .75 MOA) with decent velocities that are likely to speed up in the next 50ish rounds sounds good pretty good to me. Definitely doesn’t sound like a dud barrel.

I stopped chasing velocity years ago, it’s just few more clicks on a turret and since you know your velocity, it’s predictable.

I’d pick #2 with a jump that will work for a while as the throat erodes and just go shoot.

Ammunition recommendations for 300 Win Mag

I have been using the Federal Premium Gold Medal 300 Winchester Magnum Ammo 215 Grain Berger Hybrid OTM ammunition for my Barrett MRAD, with excellent results. Unfortunately, they have discontinued this ammo and is extremely hard to find. I am looking for some other options out there with the heavier grain bullet with similar ballistics to the MK248 Mod 1.

I see that Freedom Munitions and Barnes makes a 220 grain OTM round and wondering if anyone has experience with these or does anyone have some suggestions.

Thank you

6.5 PRC Loads

I’ve been having somewhat disappointing results with 6.5 PRC. Shooting a Zermatt Origin w/ a Snowy Mtn (Bartlein) CF 22” barrel, 8 twist. SAAMI chamber w/0.188 freebore.

I’ve tried Berger 135 and 144. Hornady 147 and 153 Atips. Have tried N565, H4831SC and a few with Superperformance. Started with BR2 primers but shifted to FED 215 in hopes of better performance. ADG brass.

I’ve shot about 100 rounds of 5 and 10 shot groups. The best 5 shot groups I’ve had so far is:
1) 0.699 MOA 57.0 N565 Berger 144 with an SD of 13.5, 2794.8 fps
2) 0.711 MOA 56.0 H4831SC Berger 144 w an SD 9.6, 2881 fps
3) 0.807 MOA 57.5 H4831SC, 144’s w an SD 10.8, 2961 fps

So the 144’s have shown a little something, But none of the other bullets, Berger 135, Hornady 147 ELEM or 153 Atips have shot under 1 MOA out of 12 different 5 shot groups.

Next I’m testing some H1000 and CCI250 primers. Any advice on the results above is welcome. Also, I feel like this barrel is slow. Wondering if I got a dud barrel from Snowy Mtn Rifles.
