Your PVA prefit experience

I had that happen with a different rifle last fall but my new rifle build has a barrel installed by PVA in 6CM. On the off chance I experience a zero-shift (very unlikely to be the barrel I'm sure), would torquing the barrel to 100 ft/lbs change the headspace or cause issues if the barrel was originally chambered by PVA for a 75 ft/lbs torque?

I know this is kind of in the weeds but I'm just making sure if something pops up down the line I have some nuclear options open to me. I already switched over to a NF ATACR scope, loctited/witness marked every screw on the new gun/scope base/rings, etc.
Nope, you won't have a HS issue. Differences of a micron or two, perhaps... but nothing that will actually be measureable or make a difference

Reloading Application to Document the Reloading Process

I've been going through my reloading notes and data and finding I have data recorded in various mediums (hand written, excel, notepad applications, etc.). I'm mostly in excel now with my info and that is great for data but is lacking when you want notes or some process flow. My use-case is that I'd love some application to track my reloading process. I've reviewed some of the existing applications (Hornady Reloading, RCBS, VihtavuoriReload, ReLOADeD, GUNR, HodgdonReloading, reloadingstudio.com). Most of these provide load data or some way to track your final loads but lack detail in the process itself. reloadingstudio.com has some interesting stuff, at least you can log that you sized your brass and how you did it but still isn't enough for what I'd like to do.

My question is, is anyone familiar with a reloading application that allows you to input your reloading and all it's detailed steps in a meaningful way?
For example here are some things I'd be looking for at a high level:
list steps and chronological order of everything in a reloading cycle (e.g. size, brass prep steps, cleaning, annealing, priming, powder, seating, crimping)
be able to record various measurements and include them in the steps (e.g. pre and post measure to datum on sizing)
notes on equipment needed and used (e.g. used this bushing, used this seating stem, annealer setup/settings)
For brass prep, I have my prep steps listed on both sides of an 8x11 piece of paper that I keep with every batch of brass that I have that's in their own container. Loading data and results are kept on a spreadsheet. The spread sheet makes for easy searching and sorting for comparisons, putting notes on any particular item, and I also have various tabs for other data, as you can see at the bottom, that I collect for my library of information.

FAFO

good luck to her! my son-in-law just got his PA license.
my daughter has her masters (and no debt) because she didn't borrow $100k so she could eat out at panera bread and drink starbucks every fucking day. i did help her pay off what debt she did have.
We started saving for college when our kids were born. Did not expect to have to go private school, but covid insanity changed that. Honestly looking at less expensive schools that may actually be worth it...

A year at FSU (tuition, room, board, books, everything) runs about $36K. I am paying almost that for private school, and that doesn't include room and board. That said, my kids are probably doing college level work by sophomore year. I am in one of the best school districts, and there is still a massive difference in expectations. I feel very confident that I am setting them up to succeed in college, but I am not paying, and I am not cosigning on any amount over about that $36K, which is already a huge chunk of change. I will certainly make the offer to put all that money in an account bearing compound interest that will easily provide a very comfortable early retirement. I wish someone would have made that offer to me, but there's a 99% chance I'd have been too ignorant to take it.

There are a lot of places to get a four year education for not a whole lot more than $100K all in. If stay in your home state or move to that state there are tons of reasonable places to go. That won't leave the 22 y/o idiot with crushing debt. You just can't be stupid about it.

@bohem out of curiosity, do you have any thoughts as to the optimal barrel torque to prevent zero shift? It seems like a lot of the guys who are really into preventing zero-shift torque theirs to 100 ft/lbs but I'm unsure how much goes into that.
We have long recommended 75ftlb for bolt guns and 100ftlb on magnums. I did testing on the topic and it seems like anything over about 55 with a regular bolt gun is fine, assuming well cut threads and greased joint. However the reason we use 75 is to put in a little extra for guys without a torque wrench that want to just "pop it" with their hand and they don't get a reliable number on install.

It's funny to me that we get this question about install torque but then people talk about quick change barrels using set screws and no joint preload (torque) as if it's somehow going to be different. There needs to be some torque on the barrel or the zero will wander. I've long advised customers on the set screw setups that if they see a problem; remove the set screws and torque the barrel on to 75ft lb. If it goes away you know where the problem was.

The fans of that set screw setup usually villify me for it but it's one of those things that has a lot of empirical data to support being a marginal (at best) idea... hard to argue with hard data.

I'm mainly curious about it because I've been trying to zero-shift-proof my hunting rifle after I had a shift while traveling to a hunt last fall. I know that some builders torque magnum barrels to 100 ft/lbs and non-magnums to 75 ft/lbs but I don't know if there's any relation to zero-shift or not. The guys paranoid about it all seem to go 100 ft/lbs even for non-magnums.
100ftlb with greased threads and shoulder surfaces will probably solve your issue unless it's in the scope.

And I'm sorry but "Adding a 3x magnifier to a 2moa dot gives you 6 moa dot and if you shoot to 200y that's 12moa"

Did you read in the comments to the video where Gurwich acknowledged his error shortly after making the video? I really don't see how his initial comment warrants "adding this MFer to the spam file." Gurwich is retired Special Forces with 9 combat tours. His channel has over 100K subscribers. Maybe you could learn something from him?

You probably have made a statement that you later learned was mistaken. We all have. Should others dismiss everything else you say because of that one mistake?

Accuracy International AX50

Well, to be honest switch barrel if it is a good system, it’s quite useful unless of course you intend it as a dedicated 50 BMG which limits it’s usefulness because you don’t always want to shoot 50BMG and sometimes range and other restrictions prevent you from doing so, forcing you to leave your 20,000+ dollar scope/rifle combo in the safe or the drag bag

40 MO a rail? Meh

Canada lockdown

it is my opinion, that far more of the fires are 'human caused' than 'natural'. Add to that, the ridiculous amount of laws and mandates regarding forestry practices and such make these areas of land 'tinder and fuel' as opposed to a "healthy forest".

But when a 'fire map' is overlayed onto a "road map", there are far too many correlations to say that it isn't human caused.

To that end, I'm more of a Vlad the Impaler school of thought.

Arsonists, Theives, and Hijackers should all be suspended by pikes, and left in the town squares. In a VERY short amount of time, those crimes will reduce to almost nothing. A) would be the removal of those actually doing such, and 2) others would learn through the various "where's Jerry" lessons to amend their ways.

As you can probably guess, I've no use, quarter, nor defense of meth-heads and such.

Ruger Precision Rifle Discussion

Question for you reloaders…. Have any of you found that you had to develop different loads for different brands of brass? I did my load development using Hornady brass, but want to load some Starline. Can I use the same Hornady loads with the Starline brass and expect the same accuracy?
You're two different head stamps can have very different case volumes. Different case volumes will produce different results in proportion to the difference in volumes. When you measure cases volumes, which should be at least 10 to get a good idea, be sure to do the measuring on fired cases (before sizing) as the case size for volume and its effects is a result of the size of your particular guns chamber dimensions.

I happen to have fired both Hornady and Starline brass and both of my particular batches have the same case volumes (55.5 grs H2O). But I also have some Hornady Match Defense Black brass that have case volumes of 57.5 grs H20.

Any time you change to a different brand or a different lot of brass, it's always a good idea to take a measurement of case volumes so you get a good idea what you might have to do for changing your load or not.

Structure fire in Winfield KS, Powder Valley Outdoor Sports.

I thought that was an odd comment too; according to a couple local news sources there was a residential fire at a house on 6th Ave the previous evening.

I suppose 2 structure fires within 12 hours in a town with a population of 11700 makes the front page and also makes the fire department include a comment in their information release.
You're probably right. I've just seen so many chicken houses, feed barns, food processing plants go up in flames that anything like this makes me suspicious. It makes me wonder if it's the beginning of targeted attacks against the ammo supply chain now.
