Gangster guns of the roaring 20's and the Motor Bandits of the 30's

I decided to build a "Fitz" special.

The Fitz Gerald Special, "Fitz Special", or "Fitz Colt" is a snub-nosed revolver concept that was pioneered by John Henry Fitzgerald (also known as "Fitz"), an employee of Colt Firearms from 1918 to 1944. A standard-size Colt revolver can be made into a Fitz Special by shortening the barrel to two inches or less, attaching a new front sight, shortening the ejector rod, bobbing the hammer spur, rounding the butt, and removing the front half of the trigger guard. Reshaping the hammer and the butt allows the gun to be drawn quickly with little risk of the weapon snagging on clothing. The halved trigger guard facilitates quick trigger acquisition, even for shooters with large fingers or gloves. The estimated total production of Fitz Specials is generally accepted as being under 200, with some historians arguing that fewer than 40 were produced.

I bought a Colt police Positive .38 revolver, made in 1922, for $225. I also found a pair of Stag grips, costing almost as much as the gun.

I cut and recrowned the barrel, installed a new front sight, shortened the ejector rod, bobbed the hammer, cut the trigger guard, reshaped the frame, rounded the grip frame, and reshaped, fitted the Stag grips, and matched the bluing on the re-shaed frame.

Next on the list is a copy of the Texas ranger 1911 Fitz special

The donor gun... a Tisas scroll engraved 1911. I'm going to bob the hammer, cut the trigger guard, replace the grip safety with a scroll engraved safety, install a match trigger, fit stag grips with an inlaid Texas Ranger badge, and refinish the lower.
