First blood. Approximately a 120 - 140lb sow.

I'd like to say this sow was 600+ yards away, but the truth is she was only about 175.
I went center-shoulder hold on a quartering-to shot, simply because I didn't know what to expect, and shooting her in the CNS seemed like the waste of an opportunity to see what this cartridge's capabilities are... a .223 would drop her doing that.
I watched the grass kick up behind her and she dropped her ass, raised her head in that convulsion pose...and then just fell over without so much as a twitch. Might as well have shot her in the head.
No entrance structure hit that I could tell. I think I went just under her near side scapula. The bullet crossed over the top and rear of the lungs (way too high for the heart), and it exited with only a out a nickel-sized hole (but did bring a lot of shattered off side rib bone with it). Not much blood at all until I started pressing on the exit, then it flowed. I imagine if she ran and tried breathing, there would have been a good trail.
Approximately 13-14" of penetration before exit.
This is an example of a theory that I do believe in - hydrostatic shock. Only broken bone I know of is the rib at the exit.
Maybe I can shoot a coyote off this sow in the next couple days.

I hope reincarnation can go backwards in time so that in her next life she can experience honest and often desperate labor.apparently, the official looking stuff is very convincing and this is not terribly uncommon. they made a decent movie around it.
