I've never served - but recently I got interested in "warrior culture" and listened to numerous podcasts, many of/in regards to our "Tier 1" units, and the SEALS sound like they were an absolute shit show - especially in the first couple of years in the sandbox.

Very interesting to see the contrast between groups like the SEALS and say CAG.

No doubt some pretty heroic and badass things have occured by people in these groups, but our society has definitely built them up into these giant legends, to the point we forget they are humans. And every bit as flawed and fucked up as the rest of us.

And a lot of that is due to our unhealthy perspective of war, in our permanent warfare state we are currently in.

Having probably put somewhere between 15 - 25K rounds through an M2 with a 7x day optic myself ...there ain't no fucking way man. I've hit tank hulls with decent frequency past the maximum effective range of that platform while farting around on a range...but it damn sure wasn't cold bore and was definitely part of a burst of fire.

^^ I remember reading that story in a book when I was a kid, thinking "wow, what a badass." And then by about my 10th year and 10,000th round thinking "So that was a f---ing lie."

There are still quite a few heroes out there, and I'll not cast very damn many stones - being that I haven't personally deployed with some of the dudes in question. However, there are things that come to mind that are just too outlandish for the possibility of truth.

Dudes with nicknames have a significantly increased rate of possessing stories that stray further from the truth IME.

I'll wait for some fanboys to start flaming me now.

Go to either of the tariff threads and you can understand the role of government pushing out manufacturers to other countries, California is a great example of a what a burdensome government can do to an economy, the max exodus of people and businesses is the result.

My brother is career military, been in two branches of service. He is like this. He has been deployed overseas many times, in some real shit parts of the earth. I don't know if I have every heard him talk about a single mission or really anything he did when he was over there. Only very vague descriptions, and nothing of substance. We are close, and I have kind of tried to steer conversations in that direction before, but he just doesn't really talk about it.

The US leads the world in optics, just that the US-made high-end optics goes into DoD programs that are not talked about much, driven by Satellite Reconnaissance, and trickling down from there to high altitude ISR platforms, then FLIR and other sensors on tactical platforms that are so good now, they have strategic implications.

The civilian scope market is way down the list, but I would like to see more US-made options. I hate buying things from countries who abuse us, or have literally declared people’s war on us, where they can include making trash that has designed obsolescence.

We have discussed that. It would have made the suppressor heavier and more expensive. Generally we try to optimize for the design purpose of a particular suppressor and not add extra features that would compromise that. "Do it all" designs are generally middling when evaluated in any specific application.

One could imagine a "full RR kit" that was a K length base, a module, an RR brake minus the end (with the same interface on the front end), and an "RR endcap" . This would give "full flexibility" but it would be considerably heavier and would cost 30-40% more than a Magnus-S-RR to make. In reality, we all have multiple cans for purposes, and the RR's are designed to live on competition guns, lightweight hunting rifles, and heavy LR/ELR guns that shoot magnums, and be as close to optimum in that application as possible.

I've been waiting to find the goldilocks $1000 +/- scope for a while now, would prefer capped windage (my main complaint about the PST) but the thicker reticle in this would be nice for hunting (or even target/comp use IMO).

I'm gonna have to let you guys judge for yourselves.

I've mentioned this before but the IQ in my G1 2.5-15 wasn't bad at all. Unit to unit variance between yours and mine???
The IQ in my G1 and G2 4.5-27 wasn't bad but the prescription didn't work for my eyes, like if I had the diopter set for a clean reticle the focus was a little strained, and it's hard to describe otherwise, but enough so that I sold them.

This G3 is not like them, the IQ to me is fine, and I'm okay with it. It's one of those scopes that I can't fault it based on my price to satisfaction index so it's worthy to keep.

I had a March HM 5-42x56 that was pretty bad optically above 38x according to my old eyes. It was essentially more like a 5-30 because above 30x it started to get to dim and slightly blurry, so I sold it. One of those scopes that I wanted to like, wanted to keep, but nope my intent was to use it at high mag which it failed at there.

LMT .308 on the cheap? Did I screw up?

I walked away from one hell of a deal yesterday. LGS had an LMT .308 with a Vortex Viper Scope stabbed in a Warne Mount for sale for $1995.00. I am a regular customer so they offered it to me for $1800.00 plus tax OTD. Salesman told me I could make a counter offer to the boss. I could even use a credit card with no additional fee. I did some quick math in my pea brained noggin. Let's see, rifle about $2800.00, plus mount $125.00, and around $1100.00 for the scope. That's $4025.00 on the low side retail price new. Hmmm...so what's the deal with the rifle?

Guy bought the rifle then got into financial trouble. Traded the rifle to a guy for some work performed. Guy that did the work traded it in on a bow and some arrows. Less than 100 rounds through the rifle. Looks good as new. More pondering and thinking. OK I know the manager...I can probably get the rifle for $1700.00 no problem. Heck of it is, I don't really want the damn thing and I am unsure how hard it would be to flip for profit. Did I screw up?
