Rifle Scopes Element Optics Nexus - First Impressions

I posted this in an exiting thread in the Rimfire forum and wanted to give it standalone one here.

Element Optics (https://element-optics.com/) is a new scope brand backed by FX Airguns. The Nexus is their flagship scope, it’s made in Japan and is a 5-20x50mm design. It’s also FFP and is available in mrad or moa with two reticle options for each. The scope sits at $1500 and is designed for use on piston Airguns up to 50bmg.

The postman stopped by this morning and handed me an Element Optics Nexus. I had been bouncing around between the Optika6, Nexus and NX8. So far I’m impressed with the scope. I bought the mrad version with the APR-1D reticle.

I’ve gotten it mounted on the Brocock Bantam Sniper PCP (.177cal) and zeroed at 30yds. The scope is made in Japan and is a quality instrument, fit and finish are top notch and all of the controls have a good feel. The magnification ring is on the stiff side but not too bad, magnification increases CW which I found interesting as I don’t think I’ve had a scope that does that. Turrets have a good feel and distinct clicks, they feel very similar to the K312 and K624 turrets. Zero stop is easy to set and the rev indicator is marked out as the turrets translate up and down as you move them. Parallax turns smooth and easy, it goes down to 10yds (primary feature for me since its on an air rifle). Illumination knob is pretty stiff but distinct with off positions between each level.

Optical quality is very good, the lenses are clear, bright and resolve detail well. So far I’ve only been able to use it in bright daylight but so far it compares well to scopes in this price range and above. It’s easy to get behind with generous eye relief at low power and tightens up as you increase magnification (no surprises), it’s still fairly easy to get behind at max power. I do see a thin yellowish ring around the perimeter but otherwise have not noticed any other optical effects. Parallax is more sensitive than I am used to but I suspect it’s part of the design that gets it down to 10yds (maybe ILya will chime in when He gets some time on his Nexus).

The reticle is a nice tree design with floating dot. It is thin but usable at 5x and not too thick at 20x. The illumination is daylight bright at the higher settings so you can t to help at low power and dark backgrounds (and/or low light).

Overall, I’m happy with my choice. We is on par with the NX8 2.5-20 and length is a little over an inch and a half longer. I think the scope should do well, it adds a good option for people that need the close parallax and while the 4x erector isn’t sexy these days it should do fine on a centerfire rifle.

I’ll post more thoughts later as I get to work with it more in more varied conditions.

SOLD Somogear NGAL

Cheap Chinese knock off NGAL. Supposed to be full power. Red laser. Idk if it's potted or not. Vis laser works. IR laser shows up with a phone camera so it works. No idea if they hold zero or not. Never had it on a gun. It's a cheap knock off laser. Don't expect it to hold up. What you see is what you get. No box. No papers. Just what you see.

200 shipped.

Venmo gift or zelle.

No trades.

AR-10 ( LR308 ) Handguard question .

This is my 4th AR-10 ( LR 308 ) build and I am looking to replace the handguard on my last build. In a hurry to complete it I used a Wilson Combat handguard and I am not impressed. I guess you get what you pay for pops into mind. Never the less I need to replace it. The last build I used a SLR SOLO series handguard and it is a superb unit. Not wanting to shuck out another 350 bucks I am looking at the Juggernaut AR-10 handguard and wondered if anyone had any experience with them or know someone who has. I just don't want another hand guard that sounds like a church bell when you release the bolt. I am afraid I will have to step up to the pump and go with the SLR again. The gun I am messing with is a 18 inch 6.5 Creedmoor with a Rainier Arms ultra match barrel. Very accurate so I can't complain there but the handguard is subpar at best.
The Wilson Combat handguard has the 6 screws fastening the structure to the barrel nut. That required a lot of test fitting and shims to time it properly. The end result left a rather large gap between the two rail sections. This is unacceptable and just cheap looking. Not to mention that a annoying ping when you release the bolt. The WC handguard is a complete fail. I wanted to elaborate on the quality of the this product so anyone thinking of buying this piece will not do it. It's garbage all the way around. I use their 1911 parts which are excellent but there rifle parts are just severely lacking in fit and finish. Just stay away from WC all together for your rifle needs.
Back to the OP any help about the Juggernaut handguard would be helpful. I am trying to narrow down the selection one at a time. I am exhausting all my options before I lay down another 350 bucks plus shipping, taxes and bla, bla, bla.
Thank you
Greg

Firearms Windham Weaponry Varmint Exterminator

Thinning out a few things that I don't shoot. Purchased new in 2016; Windham Weaponry "Varmint Exterminator", .223/5.56 20" heavy stainless fluted barrel, 1/8 twist (not threaded). Has a nice trigger. This rifle has probably less than 50 rounds fired, only shot at the range, never hunted with. Been in a humidy controlled safe for all of it's life otherwise. I shot several 1/2" groups with factory hornady 55 gr v-max ammo with this rifle at 100 yards, its extremely accurate. I painted the rifle with krylon and it blends in very well. Asking $950 shipped for the rifle in original case with paperwork. I believe it came with (1) 5 round mag and will be included if I can find it. Otherwise I will throw in a new p-mag. Scope, mount and bipod not included. I can work out a deal on the scope and mount if interested. Can send more pictures upon request. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for looking!
