I have a Winchester Model 70 I bought on an auction site several years ago. I was told by the seller that it was once an FBI Sniper Rifle from somewhere in the Northeast. It's a 30-06 with a Heavy Barrel and Parkerized looking finish with a recessed crown. It has a Redfield 3-9 "TV Lens" Accu-range scope and the elevation turret is exposed. When I got it I shot it once and it made a 3/4 MOA group with Ammo I plucked out of an old Garand Clip (definitely not match grade ammo). I looked around online back then but I never really figured out what I had. Yesterday I did a deep-dive and discovered it has "some" of the features of an Ultra-Match but not all of them. Everything on the rifle is original as far as the rifle itself. The scope and mount, who knows. The bore is almost like new. It is clip-slotted but there are no external adjustment screws for the trigger and it appears to have never had different sights on it. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Time to change the batteries and these little screws are being stubborn. Was thinking about applying some heat with a solder iron or throwing the in deep freeze for a bit but didn’t want to damage any electronics.

I’ve been working up this load for 300 Norma, AXSR rifle, 27” Bartlein barrel, first time with a magnum, and reached a point where I’m looking for suggestions.
Started with new Lapua brass sized for .002 neck tension, 230 A-Tips .050 from lands, 9 1/2M primers and H-1000.

I did a powder charge test from 82.1-85.1 in .6 gr increments OCW style, ascending order, 3 rounds each total. Stopped at 84.5 because it was flattening the primers pretty hard by then. Went from about 2900 fps up to 2980 fps. Best groups and ES were at 82.1 and 84.5.

I loaded up five rounds each of 82.1 at .030, .050 and .070 from the lands and fired them in the same ascending order style and got these results.


Loaded up 10 rounds at 82.1/.070 to see if I could confirm it and it looked like this.

Decided to test the same load again to see if this was me and to check neck tension results so I loaded up ten each at .002 and .003 neck tension and got these results. ES at .002 was 21 and at .003 was 49.
I shot every test at the same range, same time of day, nearly identical conditions prone on a bipod with a rear bag. My 215 Berger load I did is pretty consistently .5 MOA but this 230 load after that one outlier seating depth group is closer to 1 MOA.

Looking for some outside input. Time to change powders? Drop the charge a little?
Repeat a previous test?

Dropped at shot without much fanfare, but I think this scope is worthy of discussion.

Built a new DMRish rifle that is waiting for this. I have one ordered via Cameraland & according to GPO these will be shipping in the next 2 weeks.

Checks a lot of boxes for me. Pretty high hopes for this one.

Reticle is pretty basic mil based.




What I was told by GPO is that this scopes Glass is German & all parts are sourced from the German HQ, but it's likley not every component is German.
Parts are QC'd in Germany and sent to Japan for assembly. The scopes are then returned to Germany for final QC & then shipped from there.

This is a reasonably priced scope that I'll gladly pay + $100 over an Athlon for. I also like TMR reticles so the basic mil hash is fine with me. Sometimes simpler is better. I've currently got XTR 3 (Both US and Philippines), Leupold MK5 HD, & Steiner T6Xi all 18x on AR's to compare. All are more expensive scopes with + 2 on the top end. I don't expect this to be their equal, but if it's functional I think it'll be a great option. I don't typically dial to min power anyway & if I need close I'll through a dot or irons on it to supliment the bottom end.
