Resizing Brass?

I am going to be resizing fired brass for the first time, as I have only ever used virgin brass before.

Rifle: Tikka T3X 6.5 Creedmoor
Virgin brass at 1.910 with a seated CBTO of 2.19

I have always used a CBTO measurement as my final measurement to maintain consistency. After firing, I anneal and clean the brass. I use a mandrel for the necks and then trim the case to 1.910

My concern now is that the brass size will still be different to that of the virgin brass.

Questions:

  1. My fired brass all exhibits different measurements using my Area 419 headspace Gauge. I suspect different brass expands and springs back at different rates. What would an acceptable tolerance be? If we uniformly resize less 0.002 then will this not impact the CBTO length that I use as my go to seating measurement?
    • I expect If dies and setup consistently bump all brass back the same amount (e.g., 0.002" less than fired measurement), the CBTO variation will be minimized. However, since brass length and case volume change with firing, some variations in CBTO may still occur.
  2. How much does this affect the load over time if we resize less 0.002 every time? Should we limit resizing + annealign to say 8 times for max safety/accuracy?
    • I expect case wall thickness may still change over multiple firings. If neck tension varies, bullet release pressure will vary, which affects velocity and pressure. I hope the change over the lifetime of the brass should not extend beyond anything that should significantly affect accuracy, enough to warrant new load dev etc.
  3. If I load the fired brass to the same CBTO, will the load react in the same way as with the virgin brass? Should I weigh fired vs. virgin brass to check for volume differences and scrap the outliers?
    • Fired brass may have different neck tension so I expect case volume will change leading to minor pressure and velocity changes as wall thickness changes over multiple firings.

Scope dope

I've been making a couple revisions to my SPR and SPRecce, one of which is keeping some dope on the inside of the ocular covers again as a fall back option. In the past, I'd use some masking tape but this time I thought I'd make something "fancy". I know there are commercial options available but I didn't really like them so I took a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B to make something tailored to the two guns. Plus side is it also didn't cost me any money. I "laminated" them with clear packing tape and trimmed the tape so that it would catch on the inside of the cap to stay put. It's a bit janky but it works. I attached the template sheet in case anyone wants to use them, the larger one is 1.75" in diameter and the smaller one is 1.50" in diameter.

Hunting & Fishing Pack same dimensions as Eberlestock Gunrunner but...

I really love the dimensions of the Gunrunner pack for hunting. I use the scabbard for a tripod and the top pocket for a game caller. The narrowness makes carrying a slung rifle and moving through thick bush great.

However I find the top loading only with drawstring and flap that attaches to the bottom flap very slow to open and close. You have to dig through or dump out the main compartment to get to anything at the bottom. Also I never use the butt flap. I find myself using the molle for extra pouches not to add more space but just to make things accessible.

I am considering an X1 Euro but don't really need the extra volume I just really like the multiple zip open compartments.

Are there any other comparable sized packs that easily store a tripod but are more compartmentalized with zippered pockets?

6mmDasher feeding from 308 magazine?

Hey 6Dasher shooters

I’m looking at jumping into the 6mm world and thinking 6Dasher could be my next calibre.

Asking the 6 dasher cohort if they have good experience feeding 6Dasher from .308 AICS pattern mags or whether it’s best to go with 6Dasher specific magazine? I’m involved with PRS style comps so a magazine reliability is important.

Thanks in advance

Vortex Razor HD Gen2 4.5-27x56 or Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56 APRS6 and switching to MRAD from MOA.

I just purchased the new 2025 6.5 CM Ruger Precision Rifle.

https://www.riflegear.com/p-24542-r...er-precision-65cm-24-rifle-smoked-bronze.aspx

It's in jail now so I'm spending my time trying to decide what optic to buy for it. After extensive research I've narrowed it down to either the Vortex Razor HD Gen2 4.5-27x56 or Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56 APRS6. I like the Razor because I already have the 3-18x model on my 6.5 CM Aero Precision M5E1 gas gun.

The Althon Cronus BTR is $1329.00 on Optics Planet.

The Vortex Razor Gen2 is $2058 on Optics planet with a 10% discount on Optics Planet.

Both scopes are made at the Light Optical Works in Japan.
https://sageratsafaris.com/light-op...sageratsafaris.com/light-optical-works-japan/

So I'm assuming that they both have the same build quality, Glass quality, fit and finish etc. I'm leaning towards the Vortex because of my familiarity with it and I also like the locking L-Tec turrets that allow you to dial 5 clicks beneath the Zero however the Athlon Cronus is considerably cheaper. Also. I've always used MOA scopes. I've decided that the next one will be MRAD because I want to get into long range PRS and I'm told that MRAD is better for that.

I'm looking for opinions out there as to what the general thought is between these two scopes and also whether MRAD is actually better for long range PRS than MOA. I've always shot a MOA scope but this time I want to get out of my confort zone and learn MRAD. If anyone has switched from MOA to MRAD let me know your experience. I look forward to hearing your opinions.

Navy NSWC Crane M83

So after searching this forum and elsewhere online, and basically finding no source of information on this, I figure let’s start a thread on the apparently VERY little known M83 sniper rifle, built by NSWC Crane for the Navy SEALs sometime in the 1980s, before the M86.

I will share the little information I have been informed about, and let others with actual direct or otherwise knowledge share what they wish, including any photos of either actual or clone M83s.

From what I have gathered, the M83 was built in-house at Crane and consisted of the following specs:
- Remington 700 short action chambered in 7.62 NATO, mostly with the ADL blind magazine box
- McMillan silhouette stock in early desert smear camo (with the green)
- Custom made scope base with 30mm Leupold & Stevens Ultra rings
- Either an L&S Ultra 10X with M1 turrets, or a Bausch and Lomb 10X Tactical scope

And of course this all centers around what is usually my favorite part of a build, the McMillan stock. Below is a mostly exact same stock as used on the M83, with the exception of a different butt pad (but that can be easily fixed).

Converting a mid length 16" to rifle length 18"

Hey guys, I'm converting my mid-length gas system 16-in AR to run an 18-in barrel with a rifle length gas system. I'm no expert at this so I want to run this by you guys to make sure I'm on the right track.

I was doing a little reading last night and it sounds like I may be able to get away with my original buffer and spring and just tune it with a adjustable gas block? I was going to run the riflespeed adjustable gas block. Then if there's any trouble I could always mess with the buffer weights. Does it sound right?
