A good man died

John Rusyn recently passed away from a brain tumor. He went quickly with wife and I at his side

John was 67 years old
He was retired CW3 from US Army, US Army National Guard , Retired San Jose PD
John taught at Panama Jungle School in the late 1970’s. He graduated Army Sniper School in 1978
John had full tours in Bosnia, multiple to Afghanistan and Iraq. He loved doing work against evil
John was an exceptional shooter and rifle instructor. I loved teaching alongside John

He will be missed by many many people fortunate enough to call him friend. I called him Brother

Remember that time Boston state police spent a year

Trying to frame a lady for the murder of a dirty cop ?

And they had at least 250 murders , child rapists and fentanyl dealers just walking around conducting business - that the feds under new leadership rounded up in a few days - because they had pictures , knew their names and where they lived operated ? Yeah Pepperidge Farms remembers !

So the hands off oder was followed to man - so that not one pedo or mass murder had to worry about arrest or anyone getting in the way of their fentanyl trade .

These invading killers were not hiding in the woods or in caves , walking around metro areas without a care in the world - you might think you hate them enough but you don’t .

NOTE: IF you seriously think you will score 5 in 10 or better, please DO take the time to enter ALL the info requested in the Build Sheet section - will save me e-mailing you to get missing info and hasten getting results posted on the URSA site (News and Stats pages) and the non-Cal Guns sites. Thanks.

Swarovski 15x56 as PRS Spotting Scope

Just getting I to PRS and having issues with target acquisition. Have had some serious eye issues in the last year which does not help. Couple of guys suggested me getting Swaro 15x56. I currently have vortex fury 10x42 and they suggested getting a dual tripod mount and use the fury for initial glassing and then the Swaros to hone in and find landmarks, etc.

Would I be able to use the Swaros for a spotting scope? Would like to mount my phone & record the bullet trace and impact. Would they work for this?

Was "House Hunting" ever an enjoyable experience?

For the sake of my own sanity- I have to ask the question- has this ever been "fun" for folks that went through this the 1st time? My bride and I continue to look at houses and as an example- last weekend, 3 of the 4 we had scheduled... the previous Thursday if I remember correctly got canceled because they went under contract (sight unseen/no contingencies) before we could even view them. Previously we've looked at houses and offers were already in by the time we looked at the next house on the same day. It's maddening (although they seem to go for asking price and the 'bidding wars' have died down).

I've got a level head on my shoulders but gosh dang if this isn't frustrating and it's taking a lot out of me. I love my wife but I'm letting the frustration bleed through in the process as well admittedly. I'm stressed out about the initial cost, the lot/drainage of the lot, foundation issues, roof/appliance conditions, utilities, taxes etc- and while we're touring houses and I'm looking to do a deep dive into these concerns my cohort is making comments about colors, cabinets, pantries, closet space, windows, etc. I knew what I was marrying into and it wouldn't be fair to place the blame on my wife, I know it's just a super frustrating process (for me at least) and I have no complaints about our real estate agent but dang, if this whole process isn't a giant "bag of dicks" but my question is- was it always this way or am I "chasing skirts" for home ownership? Has anyone else experienced the same "conflict of concerns/importance" with their spouse? Have you ever toured a house and understood the "cost of ownership" but worried about the Diderot Effect?

The 9th Circus Delivers Again

In 2017 the Honorable Judge Benitez ruled against California's magazine ban in Duncan v. Bonta and gave California residents "Freedom Week". The 9th Circus quickly put that order on hold and played all kinds of games until the case finally reached the Supreme Court in 2022. The Supreme Court decided Bruen in 2022 so sent Duncan back to the 9th with orders to "reconsider in light of Bruen".

In 2023 Judge Benitez again found that the magazine ban was unconstitutional. The 9th then played all kinds of games including some very unusual procedural shenanigans to ensure that the magazine ban stood. Well today the 9th once again ruled that under the Bruen standard that magazines can be banned as they aren't "arms" or "protected accessories" and thus unprotected by the Second Amendment. Secondly, even if magazines are "arms" they can be restricted under the American tradition "of protecting innocent persons by prohibiting especially dangerous uses of weapons and by regulating components necessary to the firing of a firearm."

None of this shit is real, logical, or supported by current Second Amendment jurisprudence. So now we get to wait for the Supreme Court to finally decide if being told "go fuck yourself, we will do what we want" by lower courts is enough to warrant them doing some work or if the Second Amendment is indeed a second class right.

So, don't get complacent if you don't live in California because once this shit starts happening it takes forever to fight against it. Right now we are 8 years into this and no closer to getting it resolved than when we started.
