6mm ARC brass deformed

All,

I've just built 6mm ARC upper with 18" Shaw barrel and Sons of Liberty Gun Works SOLGW 6.5 Grendel/6mm ARC Bolt Carrier Group and an adjustable gas block. I adjusted gas down to get reliable ejection and empty mag lockup, ejection is going at around 4 o'clock. The rifle shoots sub-MOA 5 round groups on 100 yards with Hornady Black 105gn and just over 1MOA with Hornady Match 108gn. This is all good.
Now what concerns me is that I get ejector marks on most of the casings (see pics), there is lot of brass residue on the bolt face, and the throat on about half of the brass that has throat flat on one side. I understand that sharp edges on the bolt extractor and ejector could be causing marks on the brass and brass residue on the bolt. What could be causing flat throat on the brass?

Also, velocity is about 2520fps for Hornady Black 105gn and about 2480fps for Hornady Match 108gn, I have only about 80 rounds through this barrel so it may speed up little but. I was expecting little bit more velocity from 18" barrel.

Thank you for your help!
Dan

Griffin two position adjustable gas block

They just dropped this today. Pretty cool. Specifically the part where you can swap out manifolds and drill your own ports in the manifold plates. I've been drilling and tapping the gas ports in fixed gas blocks and using the grub screws as manifolds, by drilling them out with fine #48 or #52 bits. This allows for two settings and offers manifolds with pre-drilled 0.034" holes for you to open up. Complete customization for a dual rifle setting

I'm stumped...bolt won't close

Defiance action with Bartlein barrel. 175-ish rounds on it. I bought it used (safe queen bought 10 years ago from customer maker and hardly used) and I have only put 15 rounds on it. Original buyer had 160 rounds on it.

All of a sudden the bolt won't close on factory 140 ELD-M ammo. If I really force it, it will barely go, but it takes an insane amount of force. When I extract the round, there are marks all over the bullet (see pic at end).

My handloads are all 140-ELD-M. I made one just for grins with the same results. It will chamber and extract new or fired brass no issue, so the binding is definitely at the bullet. Remainder of the action is smooth. It runs fine with nothing in it obviously, and it ran factory ammo last week no issue. But this week not so much. Can't see anything obvious with the bore camera.

This is a new box of ammo...maybe these bullets are slightly larger? It will cycle factory federal 6.5CM ammo and leave only a light mark...

Is the solution to have a gunsmith just run the reamer in on a clean-up pass?

I'm back from a vacation here- looking for some input on 1911 assembly/disassembly nuances...

As a quick disclaimer- I've got more 1911's than any sane person should own. Primarily my collection consists of mostly Colts and also has a good representation of Ed Brown's, Dan Wesson's, Les Baer's and a Tisas's thrown into the mix.

I say that only as a reference point that I'm far from "new" to the 1911 pistols. That said- I have one (and just one) that's "acting" unusually for me & within my self proclaimed "vast" experiences.

On to the behavior I'm trying to diagnose- I have a recently purchased Colt Mark IV Series 70 that's completely stock internally at this point but does have aftermarket "medallion" walnut grips. So that's what I'm working with here.

The "behavior" that's screwing me up is that while assembling/disassembling it the slide locks up after relieving recoil spring tension by first taking out the recoil spring plunger. And I mean it locks up completely.

I'm 100% certain after playing around with it at this point is the barrel is moving... ("out of battery" doesn't sound right given the assembly/disassembly process but it's absolutely the barrel "moving" and that's how I was able to work through this to get it both taken apart & put back together.

So I figured out "what" is happening and "how" to work through it, but for the life of me I can't figure out the "why" this is happening. I have way more 1911's than Snow White had dwarves but this is the 1st time I'm seeing this.

Could it be the link size causing this?

Again- I've got her taken apart & put back together but this is the first time I've run across this... "eccentricy" Has anyone else seen this?

Ideal .223 Bolt Action Plinker (?)

I'm mainly a milsurp guy but have put together a couple of new/commercial bolt action rifles, supressed, and thinking about going further.

My RPR in .308 is astonishing (to me) for the money. Just landed a 1" group @ 300yds wi 175gr FGMM.

An RAR in x39 in a nice Boyd's stock has delivered 1.5" @ 100yds wi 1970s Romy milsurp.

Have a sh_t ton of various 55gr backed up and three nice ARs in .223 but am bored with em.

Sooo, thinkin about a bolt action in .233. All cursory web scanning a steers my towards another RAR. It really appeals to me to use standard 10-20rd mags that I already have .

Thoughts, ideas?

Suppressors Lipsey's Rugged Obsidian45 or Lipsey's Gemtech Lunar-45 Suppressor

My local gun shop has become a Class III dealer and I want another suppressor. On paper, both the Rugged Obsidian45 and Gemtech Lunar-45 meet my basic requirements for a pistol suppressor to be used with .45ACP and 9mm.
Does anyone have first-hand experience with either of these suppressors and, if so, what are your thoughts?

Thank you, Richard
