SEMIAUTOS - SHOULDERS GETTING BUMPED UPON CHAMBERING

Haven’t really seen much discussion on this topic elsewhere.

In a 5.56x45mm AR, letting the bolt fly loose onto a round can set the shoulders back by as much as 0.004” to 0.005”, depending on the make of brass (Federal GMM and Bulk .223 Remington in those 300 round boxes - they’re soft!).

In effect, if I had insufficiently headspaced brass at, say +0.004”, and release the bolt onto a chamber with headspace measured at +0.001” - the brass (empty OR loaded) will, more often than not, still chamber.

Note: Relative measurements were obtained using Forster Case Gauges and an L. E. Wilson Case Gauge Depth Micrometer. For example, Case Gauge 1.4636 allows the bolt to close with light finger pressure sans ejector. This Case Gauge measures at exactly 0.000” using a Headspace Gauge and the Micrometer pictured above. All sized brass is made to approximate the same headspace of 0.000” +/- 0.002”.

Since I know the exact headspace of my chamber - and that the act of chambering a round also bumps the shoulders fairly effectively - why not FLS and headspace brass to match the chamber’s headspace as close as possible, instead of following the usual recommendation of -0.003” to -0.005” less than that of a fired case (and we know how insufficient those values can be with overgassed rifles)?

At the moment, my brass matches the headspace of my chamber by +/- 0.002”, and I haven’t had any reliability or accuracy issues over the last 420 rounds (this AR is a range toy). I’ll only have to worry about “squishspacing” the oversized 0.002”, not the undersized half.

Any negatives to this approach?

Blue on blue.... they are eating their own!

So not only attacking Lardashian for appearing with a Tesla Robot... and keying their own cars (most Tesla owners are green lefties... just a demographic fact!)... so they are keying their own cars!

And now Schumer is receiving so may threats for caving on the Continuing Resolution... that he has had to cancel his book tour over security threats!

Damn... that mostly peaceful far left sure seems peaceful! When they are so un-hinged that they are going after their own sacred cows (like Schumer and R.F. Kennedy and others)... But it's what Communists do. Violence is justifiable when their socialist shining future is on the table. Omlettes and all that.

Maybe this is a wake-up call for the millions of Americans who still call themselves Democrats because their grandparents voted for Roosevelt and their parents voted for Kennedy. As the saying among many life-long Dems who have red-pilled goes: 'I didn't leave the Democratic Party, it left me.'

Well, whatever. If the lefties attack Schumer, I'll laugh my ass off. You know why? Because he should be protecting himself with the 2A. But he has tried to destroy that since he was a slimy little Freshman Senator kissing Diane Feinstein's ass... The biggest gun grabber the senate has EVER seen.... Schumer. Now at the mercy of his own ilk.

Bah hahahahhahha...

Picatinny/1913 folding stock

I have a bergara bmp chassis and I’m wanting to convert it into a folder. Have a design worked up already to convert it to a picatinny style stock mount but before I put in the time and material I was looking for advice or measurements of different folding stocks from center of the pic mount to folded edge of the stock because the rear of this seems a little thick for some of the folders I’ve seen. Just want to make sure I’d be able to get the stock folded completely. Thanks in advance.

Rangefinding binoculars

I’m looking for some opinions of guys that have looked thru multiple sets of high end range finding bino’s. I currently run a set on Maven B.2 11x45s. That glass on them is very good, but they’re mighty chonky (33 oz.). I bow hunt big game (whitetail and elk) and do a lot of coyote hunting. I’d like to run a set of range finding bino’s more to get rid of my bino/rf harness than anything.
Swaro’s, Leica, Zeiss, Vortex, Sig. Who has the best glass in this style of bino’s?

when chasing a low SD where is money best spent. Do i need a $600 scale or chronometer? obviously a small SD will not guarantee a tight group, so when competing at 1000yds what should I spend my money on? my scale says it is .1grain, but in reality it is more like .5 to 1 grain. do I buy lapua brass? weigh each bullet and only take the ones that are +/- .01 grain my recent range SD was 9, i have seen posts of 5 or 6, do I need that? is it worth the expense? my goal is to be in the top 1/4 of 1000yrd shooters at the local competition. (i am also old, and this is about my last semi athletic competition because racing my Harley or catamaran is long past).

edit: I am interested in where to spend money on things that will shrink the group.

to be clear i am asking how to make the gun shoot better not the shooter.
