Cold Bore Weirdness

I'm seeing a weird result out of Cold Bore. 1st I'm no novice when it comes to Ballistics but this is weird. I enter the posted G7 BC for the 225ELDM..391
Enter my chronyd MV of 2808fps.
My zero conditions & field conditions & Cold Bore predicts 14.3mil @ 1470yds.
However Streloc Pro says 13.7mil as does the new AB app. All using exactly the same inputs.
I fire 5 rnds @ 14.3 & hit .6 high. Dial to 13.7 & I'm on with the next 5 rnds.
I can't drop the DK low enough but if I use a G7 of .440 in CB it lines up.

Barrel too hot?

I have tried to search this topic but was not able to find posts, if I missed, my apologies in advance.
I started to shoot .223 Rem (paper for accuracy only) and wondered when the barrel is too hot. How do you determine what is too hot and what is acceptable?
I am using a Zermatt TL3 with a 26" Shilen with a barrel, 1:9 twist. I currently only use starting loads with CFE223 (23.8 gr) and Hornady 62 gr ELD-VT.
I shoot 10 rds and let it cool off a bit before I shoot 4 to 6 five round groups.
I plan to try my Raytek Autopro next time (used it to check engine temps in my aircooled cars). It will tell me the surface temperature of the barrel. Once I know what that is, I have to decide what is too hot and what is not. Is this a good idea and what is the acceptable temperature range? Thanks for your suggestions.

IOR Valdada (still bad?)

Has anyone considered and avoided, or purchased and regretted IOR's tactical line of optics because of the reticles offered?
I know the brand, and Val have had issues in the past, and that may or may not be rectified, but my specific question today is regarding their reticles.

To preface this, I have had and currently have some great glass in my stable, Tangent, Razor II, Razor III, MK5, ATACR and the 5-42 March High Master....BUT
I keep wanting to pull the trigger on some offerings from IOR... most notably

3-25X56 40MM FFP RANGER

3-25-2__20421.1598458871.jpg

9-36X56 40MM PATRIOT

5.8-40X56 40MM CRUSADER

5-40-84__29978.1480948892.JPG

However, their website is poor (wrong photos for the wrong optic description), their info and specs on the reticles they do offer is lack luster, and the pictures and descriptions of the reticles are just down right BAD, or not even shown.

This MP8 Extreme X1 appears to be their pinnacle...but the image associated with it is poor at best when you compare it to the full detail and actual vector display provided by most manufacturers like Nightforce with their MilXT

Anyone care to voice their opinions? I've even gone as far as to contact Valdada and request photos through the optic to get an actual representation of the reticle, but was denied.
I'm to the point where I'm actually designing (finalizing) my own reticle. (i was a designer in college) Since they build them to order anyway...I'm wondering if they would even entertain a custom for me.

G2_mil_ret__49775.1598458811.jpg

Apparently they have a GAP reticle as well...(not even listed on their link of available reticles) but the jpeg they use to showcase it is washed out and hard to read.

The Nightforce Mil-XT for comparison. All reticle details are well displayed on the website...as anyone would expect from a premier manufacturer like NF.

SWAT rifle scope

I’m sure this has been discussed and I’ve read a few posts regarding it but they seem to be older.

We are in the process of getting new scopes for our swat rifles (700p in 308). Realistically any engagement we have is under 100 yards (not there couldn’t be something longer, but historically very short distance).

I shoot prs, and am a FFP guy. However , FOV is super important as well as making shots at lower power and actually being able to see the reticle (low light or dark backgrounds). Most of my shots are taken at 4-6x, but I like having the ability to zoom in if needed. I need to have the ability to have a wide fov to see a large area while I’m at 65-80 yards away. we almost always dial, and Christmas tree type reticles are really not needed.

I’m leaning towards a 2-10x in SFP just for fov, I’d like to be at the 3-15x , but the fov at lower power is much more limited .

I’ve seen the nf nxs 2-10, as well as 3-15. Both are sfp. Leupold doesn’t seem to offer anything in their tactical line with sfp. I have shot Burris xtr3s, but its ffp and the reticle is super thin.

Our team leader is big (won’t budge) on buying American products.

Any advice?

Form 4 individual to individual efile

I am looking to complete the paperwork on a form for free suppressor from an individual to an individual in the same state. Upon going to fill out the e-file form it is asking for a FFL or SOT information and will not let me get past the first page. It is my understanding that if you're in the same state you're allowed to do a transfer directly to another individual. Is there something that I'm missing or do I just skip that first page.

Bedding oozed into bolt release, how to get it out before it cures?

Second ever bedding job on a kelbly action. When I pressed the action into the marine Tex a little bit oozed up around the bolt release. I have good release agent in there, but I’m trying to decide if I should try and wipe it out before it dries or if that will just just push it further in and cause problems. I haven’t touched it or moved it yet. Thoughts?

Pristine NXS or well used ATACR?

I’m looking at a number of scope options to put on either a 6.5 LMT MWS 20” auto loader or a 308 Tikka Tact 1 24”.

I currently have an NXS 3.5-15x50 that I moved from the LMT to the Tikka and I’ve been thinking about something with more magnification for the LMT.

Two of the scopes I’m considering are Nightforce. One is a pretty pristine NXS 5.5-22x56 and another is the same but with 50mm objective. Or, I have an option to get a very well used (but not abused) ATACR 5-25x56.

Is there a significant advantage of the ATACR over the NXS? It would cost about $100 more plus the cost of mount/rings with the added wear and tear.

Worth it?

SOLD Nightforce NX 8 and Meopta Optika 6 Scopes

#1 Nightforce NX8 4-32 x 50 MOAR CF2D Reticle, 2nd Focal Plane, 30mm tube, MPN C641. Probably less than 100 rounds on scope. C/W Tenebrex covers, box, throw lever and whatever else they come with new. Not a mark on it that I can see. Its still mounted so its possible there may be faint ring marks once removed. Rings not included. SOLD

#2 Meopta Optika 6 4.5-27 X 50, First Focal RD Reticle, MRAD, 30mm tube, MPN 653595. Great reticle for an all purpose scope. Very visible at low power unlike most FFP optics. Has illumination but not really necessary with this reticle. Nice locking elevation turret with zero stop. Optika 6 are great value and nice glass, not sure you can do better for the $$ This scope may have been mounted but I don't think it was ever used it. $675 shipped

Multiple caliber kits / conversions question about serial number

Probably a stupid question and I am good at that.

When Hornady came out with the 7 mm PRC, they pointed out that if you already had a 7 mm Rem Mag or .300 Win Mag, you could swap barrels and even use the same bolt face.

LIke any rifle where you might replace a barrel or trigger assembly, you don't need a 4473 federal transfer. Because those are replacable and not serialized. The receiver is holds the serial number.

So, if you put a 7 PRC barrel on a .300 WM receiver, is it still legally a .300 WM, which is what it was when you bought it and transferred with a Form 4473?

Do you run afoul if you don't file a change of caliber associated with that receiver?

Does it matter? The SOCOM MRAD, which you can buy, has .308 Win, .300 Norma Mag, and .338 Norma Mag barrels and parts. Only one receiver presumably having the serial number.

I try to foresee ways the commies could come at us and worry about crap like this.

Honey Badger 300 BO sub-sonic hunting loads

I have a Q Honey Badger in 300 BO (16" barrel) that is rejecting almost everything I've tried to feed it in a heavier, sub-sonic hunting bullet. Getting jams and in some cases, problems getting the charge handle to move after first round is fired.

The only two bullets that the folks at Q have suggested I try are the Maker and LeHigh sub-sonic hunting bullets.

Before I sink a bunch of $$$ on these two brands, can anyone tell me what luck they may have had in their Honey Badgers?

Bear in mind, a Honey Badger is not a standard AR15 action so what works in an AR, may or may not work well in the Honey Badger. (Don't ask my why).

Thanks in advance for any insight .

Gas Gun Pressure and Brass Question

Just got a JP LRI-20 in 6.5 Creedmoor. I’m used to reloading pressure signs for my bolt guns, but it’s the first gas gun I’m going to reload for. I Put about 200 rounds of factory Hornady ELDM 140gr through it and most of them came out with ejector marks.

1) I wouldn’t run my bolt guns with this load if I saw this. Would you say this means it’s over pressure and should I stop if I see this when I start to reload…or are gas guns harder on brass than bolt guns?

2) can I use the cases with the deflector marks and damage on the neck? They pretty much all have it and look like this. I have another 300 rounds I was hoping to use the brass on once fired.
