Advancements in bullet design...

...are all moving towards one thing. Setting aside all terminal ballistics, and only focusing on flight:
Bullet designs have gotten incrementally better since I started shooting in the 1970s. New bullets come out with a slightly higher BC. Yet...

The physics is the physics. We have known, both theoretically/mathematically on paper and through testing, what shape has the lowest drag coefficient and therefore the highest BC since 1947. The Sears-Haack body is the shape of an object with the lowest possible fluid drag.

The more a bullet looks like that the higher BC it's going to have and the slower the delta of speed as drag acts on it as it moves through air. There simply AREN'T "advancements" in bullet design when the most efficient shape possible has been around for 75+ years. Yea, there are materials, bonding, etc., but none of that is going to make it fly any better. Why isn't there a VLD that is literally a Sears-Haack body? Why isn't every competition bullet a Sears-Haack body? Is the symmetrical ogive at the rear some manufacturing or reloading problem? Am I missing something obvious? Really, as I look at the progression of bullets I've used I can literally see them getting more and more like a Sears-Haack. Is there something stopping us from just going directly to it? Is it too costly, or is it not possible to point both ends? I mean, there must be some valid reason I'm missing, because it's not like the best possible shape is a secret. Hell, if it is some manufacturing process problem then why not just weld two flat back bullets together? There is always going to be a market for the best, and we have always known exactly what that is.

Is someone somewhere crafting these for their own use? People are turning monolithic bullets, but I haven't seen one that was literally a Sears-Haack. Why, or are they out there?

Maybe this whole line of thinking is dumb, I don't know, but I've seen a thousand posts about a new bullet design, when there's really only a single one, and every bullet that doesn't care about terminal ballistics wants to be that one design.

Kimber 82G Safe Squatter

Decided to pull a safe squatter out that's been on vacation for several years now. Kimber 82G that picked up over `10 years ago. The stock was messed up (Several vise gouges). Filled in the holes then had the stock hydro dipped. Harrell tuner with Weaver T36 scope. 5 shot cold bore group at 50 yards SK Rifle Match. It's fun to go old school every now & then.

Gen 2 RAP vs Gen 1 Go wild, vs Howa

Not new to shooting, or to bolt rifles but new to longer ranges. Also never owned my own bolt gun but shot family's most of my life. Longest shot is around 250 yards but I'm looking to grow into 1k.

With that said, I'm looking to set up my first one in 6.5cm or .308 win. Budget of around 1300ish Been eyeing the gen 2 Ruger American predator which has a 22" barrel (which is what I want) instead of the 20" on the standard. I've noticed it seems to basically a gen 1 go wild but with a better polished bolt, fluted barrel, and different stock. I'm unsure about the flutes so that's an option as well.
Also been debating a Howa build to be a little. If I go this route then 6.5prc is also on the table.
Regardless of which I go with I'm going to be putting the barreled action into a MDT field stock.
I'll be using this as a range gun and for mule deer, antelope and maybe the occasional elk (I usually bowhunt for elk on the Oregon coast)
Already expecting tikka or bergara recommendations but those would likely put my build over budget by a few hundred after optic and bipod etc.

Is Grayboe as good as McMillan or Manners?

Fixing to order my barrel for my new tenacity action in a couple days , then after I get my trigger I’ll finally be able to get its stock or chassis. I was wondering if these grayboe fiberglass stocks would be as tough and accurate and durable as the McMillan fiberglass stocks or manners composite stocks ( I really like the adjustable renegade better than the ridgeback but would
Take either ). I wouldprefer manners if I come across the right deal but may be settling with the grayboe if it is decent quality. And yes I will be glass bedding the action to the stock. For the money , i can get a lower-mid end chassis also , but I think that will be last resort

180 gr 300 win mag Bonstrike load

I have been given 20 of the above to try .
So, 20 projectiles isn,t really enough to run up loads to find a good load . So i am after someone elses load to try .
I do have a good 185 and 210 berger load , and a reasonable 178 eldx , but no 180 grain loads for the 300 win mag . I shoot a 7mm prc so i I have h1000 , H4831sc ADI 2217, ADI 2208 + 2209 , rl 22 , rl 19 , viv 160 + 540 ,
But i dont have any Norma MRP which i understand is the right powder ( got loads for that ) for the bonstrike .
for info , my 300 is a SAKO A7 at 23.5 inch barrell , lapua brass at 92.5 grain Volume , federal mag primers .
You are going to have to trust me , to not be a fool on this matter.
Now i have been around long enough to take your best Bonstrike load and run it through Gordens and XXL and If it goes well in yours , its likely to go fine in mine.
If nobody is loading this projectile , how about somebodys 180 gr accubond or simaler ?
so what you got ?
cheers
les
