Rifle Competition Events Cleaning for Competitions

Everyone and their mother has a different cleaning regime. Different products, different process and different definitions of what cleaning is.

For many years my cleaning process for precision rifles has been follow boretech instructions. Maybe do a cycle or 2. Gun shoots well again and is good for 100-300 rounds before next cleaning.

Then I got a borescope. And I realized how much hard carbon builds up in the grooves , especially in the first 10 inches of a barrel. I suspect I am not really cleaning the barrel fully each time and just adding layers of hard carbon and copper. When I clean I am stripping most of the copper and leaving in carbon? Maybe.

Now what really matters is how it shoots. Is the gun predictable? Does it hold zero , velocity and shot group size over a 250 round weekend?

I am not so much interested in your cleaning regime as in your philosophy on cleaning. I am positive with the right chemicals I can strip this shit out, but do I really need to?

And it goes without saying the accuracy demands, round count and requirements for something like a PRS shooter is much different than F class or Benchrest.

Do most of you feel like getting all the loose shit out of the bore is cleaning? Do you think you need to strip it down to steel to be clean? What have you experienced performance wise doing different methods?

I recently went back to Sweets 7.62 since its a much more effective solvent than Eliminator or C4, as well as using oversized brass brushes (6.5 for 6mm). It seems to pull more shit out but the brushes also wear out super fast. I might get 4-5 cycles of wet patch/scrub with brush before the brush is wore out and i feel little resistance in bore.

AR 10 338 RCM ...sure lets build this at home.

So someone mentioned the 338 RCM, would be an interesting build for an AR 10.
So why not I have the tools, except a 338 RCM reamer, which arrived before the barrel.
Chambered a lighter barrel, adjustable gas block, magnum .535 bolt carrier, and upper reciever.

Put it all together and the 338 RCM weighs in at 7 lbs 11 oz without scope.

Took it out today to see how it would preform. First round was a moderate load with 200 gr bullet.

All the rest were loading book maximum loads, including sight in loads, with various hunting bullets bullets 160 gr copper Barns to 250 gr Speer GS.

To see how the AR 10 handles the 65,000 psi magnum pressures.

It did well, function well and was accurate, especially for hunting bullets. 5 3 shot groups averaged .506" the 5 shot groups were right at 1".
Brass was made from 6.5 PRC, 4 different manufacturers or names on the brass.
I did notice the weight difference.
The Barns already had loose primer pockets, the Lapua was 50 fps faster, Nosler required an extra annealing as it was brittle. But Norma, Lapua, and Barns all used the same forming steps...the brass does make a difference, on targets, big game is a big target, so not so much.
Most loads were getting around 3200 ft lbs of muzzle energy from the 18" barreled AR 10 with only two powders tried.
A 200gr at 2700 fps seems like a good balance, or 225 for 230 for heavier big game. The 250s at 2400 fps would be for close range smack down.
The 338 RCM is a good hunting round in the AR 10 platform, for those interested.
At least its unique.

SOLD Tikka 6.5CM barrel

Placed an order with PROOF on ExpertVoice, not realizing that they had a very extended lead time despite the barrel being shown in stock, so looking for a stop gap solution. Must be a steel heavy contour barrel, length isnt super important - lets say min 20in but may take an 18. Can be factory or prefit, round count isnt important as long as it isnt clapped out.

Looking to pay $200-$500 with fast shipping

Thanks!

Another lefty lunatic loose in Fauxcahontis own back yard…

Guy walking with his 6yo kid takes picture of Antifa-type lefty BLM Ukraine TDS graffiti painter and gets shot.

Not sure how this is possible in strictly-gun-controlled Mass.

The loonies are on the loose! And are stacking bodies. Keep your head on a swivel!!

Accessories FREE McLeod Precision Xero Sled to the first Athalon Velocity Pro owner to DM me

Folks, I suspect our Xero Sled will fit the Athalon. I need someone who owns one of these Athalon chronos to test fit it for me, take photos I can use and potentially do some accurate measurement if I need to do any tweaks to the design. From the photos on the Athalon website there is a small ridge on the ends of the bottom that may or may not be a factor, no dimensions for that ridge are available.

First DM that I get, I will send one Xero Sled to you free of charge in return for the testing and photos. If you are not familiar with the Xero Sled, you can see it here.

I appreciate the assistance!

2025 NCAA Football Survival Pool...Week 1

If you've never played before, this is a fun way to while away the upcoming college football season. In a nutshell, pick one team that hasn't lost yet. If they win you get to pick another team the next week. Lather, rinse, repeat. No prizes, just for fun. By the 8th or ninth week of the season, the number of undefeated teams usually gets down to 10 or 15, so you might want to save the top teams for deeper into the season.

Rules
1) Pick one college FBS (aka Division 1) team per week. (136 choices week 1!)
2) The team you pick MUST BE UNDEFEATED and PLAYING THIS WEEK.
3) Once you pick a team you MAY NOT PICK THEM AGAIN.
4) If your pick loses you're out. You only advance to the next week if your pick wins.
5) If you fail to pick in a given week, you're out.
6) Last player standing wins.
7) Picks must be posted in that week's thread.
8) If all the undefeated teams lose in a given week or no survivors can advance to the next week, the tie breaker is the player who posted earliest in that week's thread.
9) Each succeeding week, post your pick for that week, as well as those of your previous picks. This helps YOU not to repeat a pick.
10) If you decide to change a pick, don’t edit the original post, just make a new post. I use the last post you make for your pick. This will also affect tie breaker (Rule 8)
11) Be very clear with your pick. Follow the name format of ESPN Conference Standings. (i.e. OSU could be Ohio State, Oklahoma State, or Oregon State)
12) Schedule weeks are per ESPN.
13) Keeping up with your picks is part of the game. If someone picks a team that has a loss or is not playing that week, don't feel it is your civic duty to point out the error of their ways.
14) Pick must be in thread before kickoff of your game.

Here is a link to the Week 1 Schedule College Football Schedule - 2025 Season - ESPN

Tricky bit in week one as 8 teams play twice in “Week 1” (Rule 12). If you pick one of those, you must designate which game.

Post your Week 1 picks in this thread.
