Rifle Scopes Tangent Theta AIF (locking turrets) explained

TT just released this video explaining their AIF turrets (Auto Isolating Feature, their fancy terminology for locking turrets). I get the free spinning sleeve, but a couple comments, the 5-25 with AIF appears that you can still see the lower turret numbers (still wish TT would print BIG numbers on their BIG turrets!) when the sleeve is locked; however, on the 315 hunter the sleeve entirely covers the turret numbers which is a no go for me. The AIF turret option is still a toolless turret on the Professional series scope, only the 3-15 Hunter AIF turret is non-toolless.

The feature is available on new 5-25 and 3-15 Professional series scopes and is also a retrofit option if you own these scopes.

Swedish Mauser m/96-38 Inconsistencies

I just picked up a Swedish m/96-38 and there are some aspects of the rifle that confuse me. I ask these questions having not handled an enormous number of them, but from reading The Swedish Mauser Rifles published by North Cape Publications.

This rifle was imported by Class Distributors in Swann, Vermont. The receiver was manufactured by Carl Gustafs in 1908. All the numbers match except for the magazine floor plate and the bolt stop, neither of which have serial numbers. That should mean that they were made by Husqvarna.

The rear sight is from an m/38, not an m/96-38.

Most oddly, the bolt has only one gas escape port, but according to the book, any rifle made after 1904 should have at least 2.

Does someone want to put this all together? I can't imagine an importer cobbled together a matching bolt from a pre-1905 rifle. None of the numbers look scrubbed. How about the rear sight? Has anyone ever seen a m/38 rear sight on a m/96-38? I can easily see anyone swapping out the magazine floor plate and bolt catch, though it seems odd with everything else matching.

Medium length vs long action..what am I missing.

As I understand it, the medium length action is becoming more popular or at least spoken about more.

The common reason I see for the medium length is a cartridge like a 6.5PRC etc.

The question I have is why not just build a long action?

Unless I’m missing it:

The mags are proprietary more or less (you can’t buy AI mags which are the standard)

It needs, special bottom metal

Most chassis designers do not have a inlet for many models

The bolt throw isnt much shorter than a long action.

It’s not a dual use action for competition like PRS where guys complain about bolt cycle time

In theory the long action can do everything a medium action but also do “long action stuff”

The long action already has mags, chassis, bottom metal galore…

Is it really so one can still shoot a regular short action length cartridge with out a different size mag?

Wouldn’t it be easier to just make a mag spacer kit for a long action than a whole new “system”

There are designers smarter than me so I prob don’t know the whole story.

Thanks
