Just out of curiosity. Outside of the 3-18x56 T6XI, why do you see so few scopes with a 56mm objective for a max mag under 24-25x, like in that 18-20x? I know NF has the NXS 5.5-22x56 but it's MOA and SFP only right now

Hi all,

I’m having an issue with my RPR extracting fired SK LRM since I put a Shilen barrel on it. It will extract SK rifle match with no issues. Looking at them side by side I can’t really see any difference externally. I know LRM has a higher velocity. Is this causing greater case expansion possibly?

Also, pushing down on the cartridge positioning spring with the bolt closed will extract the cartridge. I’ve seen pictures where the cartridge positioning spring was bent but this did not seem to be the case. I replaced it anyway but it made no difference.

Went from being well tuned and pretty much dead reliable with my match centerfire and with my Vudoo to, giving me estimates as much as a full Mill High.

Next week, I’m going to go to prince, set up targets at known ranges *easy to do at Prince, and get some firm, true data. then true the Kestrel to this data. I had to do this when the unit was new, not rocket science).

As said, trued it before and until yesterday, with the 6GT and 105 Berger Hybrids as well as the Vudoo, with SK Standard Plus and Long rifle Match dead reliable. Had an issue with my practice 6GT and Berger 105 VLDs at 800 yards, but these other two rifles are solid or at least were. . Now, bonkers. Example. Vudoo, proven data 250 yards, 9.4 mils, This was given by the Kestrel last week. Today, same Kestrel, Same everything excepting 10 degree cooler weather and very low humidity, recommended 10.9 mils. Guess what, tried both, 9.4 mils was on target.

After issues yesterday, I reloaded the rifle data, from my iPhone where proven data is stored. No change from yesterday’s too high recommendations.

Any other ideas.

Hi folks,

So I'm getting into the precision rifle game (doing my first NRL Hunter match in April). I cannibalized my scope from a gas gun (LaRue 308). It is an Athlon Cronus 4.5x29. I've got it mounted on an Area 419 one piece which itself is on a nightforce rail. The rifle itself is a baseline Bergara b14 HMR (22" barrel in 6.5 creed).

So my challenge is eye relief and the design of the rifle. The Cronus has always treated me well, and never had a problem running it on my gas gun (which obviously has a mount that brings it forward).

But to me, it looks and feels like the Bergara stock has weird geometry and the optic is too close to my eye for comfort. I've got the mount all the way forward, and the optic all the way forward in the mount (see picture), but I still find it a bit too close. I'm now tempted to add a couple of more spacers to the stock, despite me having it "set up" for my length of pull, just to push it a bit further away. Any thoughts? Any wisdom to share? I'm still learning, but even going for a "modern" shooting position without a cant (unlike carbine shooting), it just is wonky.

Does it make sense the image and the reticle might not be in focus because you change from a 75 yard target to 250 yds? I have noticed if I am on a low power (like 4) looking at a target 75 yards away, I can adjust the parallax knob to get both image and reticle in focus. Then if I look at a target 250 yards away on 20X power, they are not both in focus anymore. Is that because the distance has changed (75 to 250), the power has changed (4X to 20x) or both? I have a Nightforce NX8, 2.5-20, SFP scope . The parallax adjustment claims 11 yards to infinity. When I’m deer hunting, I usually set the parallax for 100 yards from sighting it in on 20 power. But when just looking at various targets while hunting (different ranges and powers) I usually just turn the side focus (parallax) knob until both the image and reticle are in focus. When I do that if I move my head up and down there is no apparent movement of the reticle on the target image. I just don’t understand the physics behind why this happens and when I would expect to need to make a change.

I haven't seen much discussion on this spotting scope (https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-razor-hd-13-39x56-spotting-scope.html) but I picked one up last month during the Veterans Day Sale from EuroOptic and I've got to say- I'm rather impressed with what this otherwise little guy has to offer. Still limited on eyepieces (but hopeful that Vortex will release an LER and/or MRAD option in the future) but aside from that, I think that this spotter punches well above its size/price/weight.

Anyone else get a chance to play with one?

Looking for good budget factory ammo to shoot out of an AR10 platform just for fun. No hunting or bolt gun use. Local shop has lots of Sellier & Bellot 6.5 creedmoor 142gr hpbt for what to me seems pretty reasonable; $22.49 a box. I was wondering if any one has any experience with this ammo?

Not trying to win awards but at the same time I still want something that groups half decent. Mostly shooting 200-700yds steel plates.

Does the higher mag range Zeiss V8 in the 4.5-35 suffer anything optically compared to say the 2.5-20? Obviously there are many differences. Size, weight, etc. But I’m not interested in any of that. I’m only referring to their optical differences. If both are set at say 20x or 15x, will one suffer light transmission compared to the other?

I have a friend that runs the Swarovski here in the US. He says the 2.8-18 swaro is much better than say the 3.5-28 optically. Especially in low light.
I’m wondering if the same applies to the Zeiss?

Maybe others have compared the S5 models and can chime in on the optical differences

I have several hundred Norma GTX 130gr bullets that I just cannot seem to get decent accuracy with. I posted in a previous thread awhile ago concerning these bullets and what I've tried. Now I have a Kreiger barrel instead of Criterion and they still just won't shoot under 1 inch. Does anyone know what Prime loaded with these bullets? I would like cartridge overall length, and what powder if it was known.

I've tried H4350 and Varget, and COAL from 2.8 up to 2.95 in .3" increments, 5 shots each. Nothing was consistent.

Should I try new Alpha brass? I use Alpha LRP brass and CCI 200 primers.

Minox MD80-ZR 20-60x80 Spotting Scope with Mil ranging reticle.

Excellent condition very gently used (primarily birdwatching from tripod off my porch, no matches or packing it around) and just back from Minox (Blaser USA) with new eyecup and soft case. This spotter has excellent glass quality and very useable mil reticle.

No issues other than I noticed a barely visible speck in the bottom left of the reticle that could only be seen at full mag so I sent it back and they took care of it and returned it, looks nearly new condition. No scratches, works and looks great. I am not doing much ELR these days and typically use binos for hunting.

$1400 firm, if it doesn't sell at that price I'll just keep it.
