MPVO Opinions

I'm putting together a new 16" 6mm ARC gas gun, and I'm trying to decide on what optic to get for it. Main use for this rifle will be for plinking and hunting (varmint/deer). Locally, I only have access to 100 yd, and I can shoot 200 yd (possibly 400 yd) at my parents' property. I'm also considering leaving this gun with a friend for when I'm on work travel where the local range is 550 yd and beyond out in the desert.

In the 2.5-15/20 range, I'm looking at the Athlon Ares BTR Gen 2 HD, Steiner T6XI, GPO GPOTAC 8X, and NF NX8. In the 3-15/18 range, I'm looking at the Swampfox Warhawk, Bushnell Match Pro ED, Athlon Ares ETR UHD, and Element Titan.

There are some 44mm objective options in those magnification ranges, but they seem to be more the outlier than the norm. Maven RS1.2 MIL, Vortex Viper PST Gen II, Vortex Venom, Vortex Strike Eagle, and Primary Arms Glx.

Just wondering what SH thoughts are on those options. Any that should be definitely be avoided? My primary concerns are a good eye box and decent glass and not too stiff turrets. The turret detents on my 1-8x GPOTAC are so stiff that it usually jumps 2-3 clicks when it first moves, which is really annoying.

Mexican Economist Proves MAGA Right

Were are getting screwed by Mexico big-time! I had no idea it was this bad. And now that deportations are coming Mexico is freaking out!

There is a new article out on The National Pulse website the details a lot of this. Link below:

Economist Accidentally Proves MAGA Right About Migrants In Mass Deportation Warning.

Mexico has no choice but to fight against deportations because deportations will put a severe strain on their economy. In essence Mexico can't afford it.

One example given in the article, which is probably the smallest problem for them - I quote:

"Economists are also cautioning that mass deportations could reduce the flow of remittances from Mexican immigrants residing in the U.S. The National Bank of Mexico reports that $63.3 billion in remittances were received from the U.S. in 2023 alone."

In order for that money to fly under the IRS radar, remittances would have to be smaller than $15,000 a year per person. Let's say $14,000. This means that to reach 63.3 Freaking Billion Dollars, 4,521,428 illegals would have to send at least one $14,000 check every year!

SOLD ***Sold***Les George Talos Sweep Magnacut

I have an excellent condition Les George Talos with the Stonewash Sweep Ti Handle and Stonewash Magnacut blade. I am the second owner and I don’t believe this was cut/carried before me. I did not use it and the blade is sharp. Comes with Jarosz flag clip installed, original clip, soft zipper pouch, LG patch and sticker. These are fairly hard to find and are out of stock everywhere since they only do small batch production.

Asking $495 shipped OBO

Only trade I’d be interested is for a Les George Button Lock VECP (Morph handle preferred)

PayPal FF, Venmo or Zelle for payment.

TRIJICON ACOG WITH TA11 FORM FACTOR AND 6X MAGNIFICATION

Just throwing it out there.

The Trijicon TA11 ACOG (Horseshoe Reticle) with the RMR piggybacked on top works extremely well for me on my light, pencil barreled AR - but think that 6x magnification would be the sweet spot.

I was wondering why they chose 3 - 4x as their magnification range for the “default” models (we’re ignoring the bizarre TA55 and enormous TA648).

Is it a speed / torso sized target thing?

Any opinions?

Optics Swarovski slc 15x56

Swarovski 15x56. Lenses and body in excellent condition. Used maybe once for spotting at the range. Ending up getting the new 14 pures. Looks like production date was 2023. Purchased about a year ago. $1900 shipped conus. PayPal f&f only.

AI AT fixed to AX folder. Conversion Instructions and pictures

IMG_20181217_142637.jpg

So I was bored and sitting at home looking at my fixed chassis AT and then the AX stock conversions online and decided to pull some things apart and document it

TLDR: It bolts right on.

So I ordered an AX stock up. I knew these stocks were marketed as "for folding AT only" originally (I read or imagined that from somewhere) and I figured I'd have it milled and make it work somehow.

Turns out all these stocks are the same. Which makes sense from a manufacturing standpoint.

The "conversion" I ordered is just an AX replacement stock. It's identical to the sage green AX stock on my AXMC. And it pretty much bolts right onto a fixed chassis AT, no modifications needed. This means that it may fit on other models if the attachment is the same. Take your skins off and have a look, this post 14 ax stock may fit older AICS, pre-14 AX, AE, etc, I don't know I don't have them to look at, but you can see the attachment point in the pics. If it looks similar it's probably the same.

IMG_20181211_163556.jpg

All being done I am pretty happy with it. As far as value??? Well, I don't regret spending the money on it. It's had to place value on a folding stock. I've never had to fold my stock during a match or stage or anything, which is why I was perfectly content keeping a fixed stock AT after I traded my folder off. But as far as value or cost? $830 bucks ain't cheap, that's a new barrel or a new tikka ctr. But in the same category, KRG gets about the same for their folding stock for a W3 or TRG, and cadex gets around $750 for their folding stock. So, of course I would like it cheaper but I don't think $830 is out of line for the marketplace.
I think if I buy more AIs I'd definitely buy an AT, and then have a choice of +$450 for a left side folder or +$830 for a right side folder I install...
I'd definitely be bemuying fixed ATs and putting the AX stock on for only $380 more than a left side folder.

Issues: the AX stock cheek weld is higher than the AT by roughly 1/2". (See picture)
Length of pull is also about 1/2" shorter at minimum which I like.
Running the Henny 4-16x56 in a spuhr sp-4601 and the AT low rail the cheek weld (luckily) is perfect for me at the lowest setting. That's how I run it, it works for me, but I would say there is a 60+% chance that you will need either a higher mount of the AT high rail. So keep that in mind. (Rough guess from other friends rifles I've used and if their check weld is high or low compared to mine)

Mile high and eurooptic both have these in stock. Mile high said they have sage green skins to match also. As you can see in the pics the original AI green and the sage green definitely do not match, but I don't think they look too bad. Still matches better than an FN scar and their 50 shades of FDE. You will reuse all your original skins (except the buttstock of course)

I'll try to insert pics as I go ( but I am dumb) so here's the play by play.

Tools needed: 3mm Allen, 2.5mm Allen, dead blow hammer, some sort of heating device.

1: remove AT grip and buttstock skins.
IMG_20181209_154121.jpg

2: remove cheek rest so you don't bend it like the idiot taking the pics.
IMG_20181209_154934.jpg

3: remove two 3mm Allen head screws on the top and bottom of stock extension closest to the action.
IMG_20181209_154128.jpg

4: heat the area the screws were removed from with your hearing device. I used my little soldering torch. It did not discolor anything and worked great. Will it discolor your rifle? Probably. I don't know. Try a heat gun or hair dryer. Oxy fuel is overkill.
IMG_20181209_154411.jpg

5: after it's warm just give the buttstock a what off.
IMG_20181209_154836.jpg

IMG_20181209_154852.jpg

6: remove the Devon stuck on the stock extension. Don't use a direct flame for this, I used a little soldering adapter thing. Takes a good amount of heat to loosen it up.

Continued below, can only attach 10 pics.

Accessories SOLD Surefire MB762SAL/RE Brake

Surefire MB762SSAL/RE muzzle brake for sale. Correct for your USMC M40A5 build. I sold/ traded my can and no longer need the brake. Item is barely used but doesn't include original packaging. Reasonably priced at $250 shipped. I've seen these sell for much more but that's about what I paid for it. Not trying to scalp anybody.

Interested in M40 trade items up or down. Really need the badger ordnance 30moa lugged scope base or M5 bottom metal. Let me know what you have. Thanks.

Hello from ohio

Just wanted to drop in and say hey from Ohio. Haven't joined any forums recently, and not sure if a post here is mandatory first (tried posting elsewhere and it's still pending).

Anyhow not new to firearns, as I've been collecting for 15 years, but just bought a scar 20s and first time I've considered longer distance shooting. Right now trying to decide on an optic (between a mark 5 or a nf atacr or maybe nx8 as the atacr is a little over budget)

And trying to source how people got an fde atlas bipod as I only seem em in black.

Either way thanks for the add, and hope I can learn a good bit here.

New Rifle from LaRue - the MRGG-S 6.5 Creedmoor

I'm a big fan of Mark's rifles. I'm not a big fan of Mark. He's blocked me on every platform he's been on at least once.

My Large Frame Larues (OBRs and PredatOBRs) shoot stupid well. My PredatOBR is the last gas gun I'd sell. If this new MRGG is anything like the rest of my LaRues, it'll be an amazing rifle.

With that said . . . . I noticed some "spin". They say that the MRGG rifle was ". . . . submitted for use by SOCOM." Yeah. . . ok. But to my knowledge it wasn't picked up by them, so associating it with SOCOM seems a little . . . misleading.

This looks to incorporate the same type of torque wrench that was included with the siete instead of just a "manual" wrench that has come with the PredatOBRs.

In today's world, $4750 isn't a terrible price, but it's still a lot of cash for a rifle.

I think I'd be tempted to put an FDE A2 on it.

It also looks like Mark Fingar didn't do the photos. I'd bet about $50 that mark took all but the first one with his phone.

Pro Tuners?

I’ve got a Brocock Commander XR Magnum that I’d like to have tuned. Had AoA replace the reg and do some service but need to get it back to where it was originally. I’m primarily rimfire now but still enjoy my PCPs, especially when they are hyper accurate! Have three kids, one being a newborn, and work as state dep contractor, so no time to dick around.

I’ve heard of different airgun smiths that can go through a rifle to optimize and tune it. Just not involved enough in the community to know who exactly.

Thanks in advance for any help!
