I don't think any unfired rounds will come out. I had one today, thought it was spent pounded it with dowel wouldn't budge. I finally closed bolt and pulled trigger to a live round then came right out. That was Eley match at .004. Lot of CZ like SK ,mine doesn't . Try different lots-- spend more money. Good shooting.

I don't appreciate the inconsistency at all. For the money spent, the Lilja should not be faulting. That said, I'll be getting my own wood tomorrow. There is a youtuber that is a big fan of Lilja and shoot damn well; he has done testing with different brands and seem to shoot them all. A misfire here and there, perhaps he doesn't show the issues.

... FWIW, I put a Lilja on my 457 and had extraction issues with fired Eley Match. Ended up with "0" shims, my headspace was .039", to get the extraction resolved. I attached a photo of six - 5 round groups (50 yds). Across the top (orange pasty) are three groups of Eley Match with "1045" in the last four digits of the lot # and the second set of groups were with "1061" in the lot #. As I understand it those last four digits are a reflection of the muzzle speed tested. It is now reliably extracting the fired Eley Match. Never had a problem with the Lapua but didn't haven't found any that grouped as well. I'm sure it is a matter of finding the right lot...Attachments
You shouldn't be able to close bolt with Lapua with that headspace .Im surprised your closing your bolt at all. My bolt recess was .038, yours might be different . I"m at .004 with Eley Match with no extraction issues. My barrel doesn't like 1077. I was advised by Lilja to start .006.This is my first post so I hope I don't screw it up
Most in this thread are shooting it stock from the factory. And yes, it’s possible that yours may not shoot lights out. However, from just the number of guys that shoot them stock here locally for NRL22 matches, and do well with them, I’d say you are more likely to get a good shooting match rifle for not too much money.
I shoot my VPT from a bench setup that isn’t working great for me. I’m trying everything. The good news is that I still shot a 2400 on a ARA factory card today. The gun seems to be getting better. I shot 3 different SK ammo and 2 lots of CX. The CX was best. Going back to my Randolph/Edgewood setup.
Are you weighing ammo, it does make a difference ! I weight a brick at a time no good weighting 2-3 boxes. SK is going to give you a lot of difference.
Outstanding, I too had 1.234. The OEM shank was 1.190 = headspace of .044. and depth of the bolt recess was 0.038. So the .043" Go Gauge that is listed in the instruction and seeing that the at least two OEM barrel having the HS setup in the .044-.045 range confirms that .043 is the correct HS to shim to meet the SAAMI spec for 22LR rim thickness that is .043 -.007. The accuracy of measuring is a given at plus or minus .001. Playing around with sometime other than the .043 +/-001 range is a waste of time and probably a cause of extraction and POI issues. Using the .043 Go Gauge is the way to on this installation, its quick & accurate. It is refreshing to see the measurements and the instructions work. In addtion a sharp reprofiled extractor and stronger extractor spring clip works great to eject every cases with this barrel and the bolt operates smoothly with the correct HS. Thank you for your input, it really helped.
I have to admit, these last batch of posts are Way…way over what I’m doing with my 457. All that I know is that I can consistently engage targets anywhere from 25y to 310+y with mid priced ammo. Over and over and over. My MTR is such a nice shooter for about $700. I couldn’t ask for more from it than what it is.
The trigger, yes, the factory trigger is great, and the ergonomics of the very nice walnut (or similar) stock are perfect from me (even if just a tad short in LOP at 13.5”). For the NRL22 and PRS22 games, you couldn’t ask for a better entry-mid level rifle.

I agree, Your mileage may vary on the sorting game. What works for me is using the LRA MV3 "Send it" anti-cant level along with cleaning the chamber clean of the wax carbon build up ring every 200 rounds. Using any of the upper 25% of the ammo listed in the lab tested accurate shooter results ( https://www.accurateshooter.com/guns-of-week/22lr-rimfire-ammo-comparison-test/ ) that shows the target cards (with no video hype ) and you will be happy. I have stopped watching all of the video ammo testing done by expert video entertainers / keyboard marksman which I found to be a real waste of time and money. Time is better spent actually on the range working on technique, waiting for the green "send it led" and using wind flags or streamers to learn the wind. Every shot is done with a chronograph in real time to verify the FPS and SD that tells you the story why then POI moves. Consistent SD in the 5-12 FPS range is the magic that makes you smile. I really enjoy shooting my CZ VPT and don't mind shooting 500 -1,000 + rounds a week. It's very rewarding to get 2400 + pts on the ARA card when you beat the wind. Now that it's in the 70F I have been going two times a week and upped my ammo budget to 2500 rounds and enjoy every minute. Money well spent. The golf clubs & cart are history. Have fun!
It's out there you just need to buy it and forget about the price, it will never go down. Just like gas prices that are going up daily, if you need it the price is just an inconvenience. The baseline backup stock is CCI SV which you can find on sale all the time. The match top tier brands are out there at the distributors but you gotta be quick and buy enough to last a year or more. In the long run its the only way to buy because you are shooting the same stuff. It took me years to figure it out and stop chasing my tail. I get dozens of email on ammo sales every week, the deal is getting cheap / free shipping. Every once in a while places like kyguco runs sale on SV worth looking at. It's not a cheap sport, the good stuff will cost you, so as they say cry once and have fun getting the job done right the first time. I always keep a copy of the ammo comparison list in my bag as reference at the range to see what the other guys are shooting and compare their targets to the groups on the list. I also shoot a lot of TX 22C handguns that eat ammo by the pound. It's where bricks SV disappear quickly.

Don't use CCI pisses me off with ups and down. If you buy enough good stuff- what happens if your rifle doesn't like that lot# or speed, buy a new gun?
Sure, why not? That sounds like as good enough reason as anything else.
This might help with the incontinence up & down problems with CCI SV. Quick video is spot on ( ) the guys does a good job showing the target with thw SD numbers and explains his results around the 5.33 mins. Its not the ammo. Its knowing how to apply the fundamental of POA to equal POI and having the technique and skills to make adjustments for the conditions and keeping the scope level. Shooting bullet on bullet is a wind game and doing it well confirm that you have the right stuff to aim small. If you can shoot SV well then shooting Eley/ Lapua is worth the extra $$ in getting right tools & ammo to do the job. Just saw that KSS has Eley in stock.

Ordered an MTR trainer and I was wondering if anyone is running the Straight Timney on the new version of the Trainer with the manners stock. Having buyers remorse in the sense if it's going to feel comfortable pulling the trigger, trying to get a 90 degs on the trigger. Do not want my hand floating too much. This what I am getting with my rig. - I just passed 5,000 + rounds with my Manners VPT Lilja barreled rifle that has a 0.044 HS setup. I used the 0.043 Go gauge to check the setup. I have not had any problems with the feeding or extractions after sharpening the extractor tip to get point contact to bite into the radius & re profiling the corner to clear the rim. I also reformed the extractor spring clip smaller to increase the force on the extractor.
Following Lilja's installation and barrel cleaning instructions is critical to get it right. You must clean the chamber every 100 rds and at every 200-300 rds use an old bronze brush and solvent to scrub the chamber to remove the carbon ring. A Teslong Borescope to check your work is necessary. The accuracy of Lilja is outstanding and measures up to JT's sub MOA YT videos. I use CCI SV (60%), Eley Match, Eley seim auto bench rest and some SK./ Lapua. Just started shooting 200 yds last week as the temperatures are now in the 60F. Nice, its stil in the sub MOA range! Its really a fun shooter if you keep it clean.
I agree to this, my Lilja groups open up at 100 rounds. So I clean at 100 or 150. Could you please show a picture of the modified spring and extractor? I set my HS at .040. Every now and then I get one stuck. I fault that on dirty chamber, sticky Eley lube and cold temps.
I'm looking forward to shooting at my club this spring. I've been practicing with the CZ here in FL. and consistently shoot 2350/2400 with no flags. Still no 2500's. The more I shoot it the better it gets (approx 1500 rds).
No pictures needed. Remove the spring clip and just squeeze the spring clip down to a smaller diameter. It installs the same way but you need to check the ends to see if they are seated (use small flat screwdriver). Sharpen the extractor using a flat needle file to touch the extractor tip edge to make it sharp and that the tip gets a good bite in the radius of the case rim. If necessary change the corner angle so there is only point contact in the radius and no contact with the remaining flat surface of the rim flange.
CZ sets the Head Space to .043/.044 and the Lilja instructions get you to the same HS as the OEM. To ensure that all ammo functions properly the .043 HS is critical and is why Lilja also sells a .043 Go Gauge. Playing around with HS is a total waste of time. You will have problems with ejection if you are out of SAAMI tolerance. See page 14 of the SAAMI spec that shows the Go Gauge & Bullet dimensions. Drive ban engraving that you have with a shorter match chamber is affected. So following the instructions is the way to go . Here is a good Video that explains some of the problems with aftermarket CS457 barrels ( ) after watching this you will have the bug to learn more so go to his channel watch several of the other 22LR accuracy & testing videos and see why the SAAMI requirements are critical to achieve chamber pressures to fly the 0 .960" projectile. The 22LR Bullet re profiling video is outstanding and is well worth the time to learn about ammo performance. I should have sent a picture it was worth 1,000 words. Good luck and be smarter everyday. That’s a good looking setup GK. I can’t shoot a 2500 in practice to save my life. I just bought a Area 419 weighted ARCA rail for my 457 VPT. The jury is still out on if it’ll be legal for ARA Factory class. The match director at the venue I shoot the most seems to think it will be.
I have never seen a CZ with headspace set to .043/.044 from the factory, most are in the .046" - .048" range and I have checked dozens.
both my 452 and 457 measured 0.046-0.047" using the plastigauge method (actually soft lead solder).
Have any of yall tried SK High Velocity Match in your 457? I can't find any decent ammo locally asides from it. Tried a bunch of cheap brands and the only one that was halfway decent was Federal Match. I've read conflicting reports about the sk HV. Should I just get a brick of CCI standard velocity?
It’s okay for HV. HV is in general less accurate than SV. It does perform relatively well for long range, past 200. It’s worth the price for that. It will outperform Federal Ultramatch.
I bought 2 bricks for $70 ea., though that was a very fair price. I think it shot about the same as Std. +.
I have Five or Six and two BRNO 2’s which are similar. I sold a NIB 452 American last week.
great rifles, I have 2 of the 452 scouts that my sons learned on. I honestly don't think you can find a better 22 for kids and possibly adults. Well made, packed full of features, accurate, reliable, balanced real well. love them. they don't shoot them as much now
I’m not sure, but I do know that I’ve already seen two of them here in the PX in the past few months. Competition guys often replace them with a chassis of choice. Personally, I love the MTR stock, even if LOP is a tad short at times.
