Five people were stabbed with a knife while tubing on the Apple River in Somerset Saturday afternoon, the sheriff said.

A 17-year-old boy from Minnesota was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Knudson said.

The four other victims are hospitalized in critical condition, he said. Two victims were transported out of the hard-to-reach area by helicopter.

You get an older man thats going to play big man and doesn't put up with drunk rowdies yelling 'Show your tits' to females, possibly members in his own group, and bad things can happen.

If you notice, the news article zeros in on the fact he was a gun owner and conservative as if that was the underlying reason for the attack.

I can't see a 250lb., middle age engineer chasing down 17 yr. olds. I can, however, see a group of youts' confronting him and lots of insults and challenges hurled back and forth.

I took a g/f out on a friend's ranch on her birthday to a remote place on a river to relax and swim. We were on a gravel bar that extended out into the river when a few truckloads of high school age teenagers came down to the river on the opposite bank which was another ranch.

They were drinking, loud and cutting up which was fine and to be expected but after swinging on a rope swing they swam across the river to the long gravel bar we were on and were getting too close and crowding us and my g/f was getting uneasy. They were ruining our little picnic. They were also dropping the F bomb with regularity and on purpose until I said that is enough. I walked over to them and told them them to knock off the language, there was a lady present. There were at least fifteen, probably members of a football team as some were bigger than me. I had my Kershaw Blur in it's usual place in my cutoffs and I knew if the SHTF things would get serious.

They settled down and went back across, not bad kids and probably came from good homes with some future frat brats mixed in. But all it takes is that one with a reputation as a crazy to maintain thats done too many steroids and shotgunned a few too many beers.

I'm usually not one to speculate but I would go out on a limb and say that the ones that got stabbed somehow instigated the whole thing and when one got poked the others tried to jump in and fight the guy.

Yes. My BIL was stabbed a few times at a party in high school. His abdomen is very disfigured from the knife and the surgeries. Miracle he lived. If a friend hadn’t tossed him in his car and drove him to the hospital at warp speed he’d be dead.

It said where the guy that died was from. According to the Wikipedia page it was 94% white during the last census. It would be a safe bet that they were white as well.

Tubed it many times in my younger days. Lots of drinking and all the stupidity that goes along with young people drinking and young women in barely there bikinis. Witnessed lots of fights and lots of young guys posturing up to each other.
