I had a Hispanic person call me to give them an estimate for an HVAC system on a building. It is a commercial building that they bought for multiple uses. I walked in and noticed that they had already started the remodel. I asked who the electrician was and they said that they were doing it themselves. Ummm, you need a permit and all this wiring needs to be in conduit and not romex. They responded with.. it's okay, no one is going to see it. Ummm, has the fire marshal been here to give you an occupancy limit? We don't need that. Ummm, do you know why you don't see headlines where large portions of people die in commercial building fires? There's a reason for codes and getting things inspected. I got a blank stare. That's when I told them that they needed to find someone else for the job.
