The Huayi Brothers Film Corp., known for their no-nonsense, extremely brutal and gory movies and TV serials featuring the Sino-Japanese War of 1931-1945 and steel faced modern PLA military dramas, are taking a break and exploring a much more lighthearted genre with this martial arts comedy. Set in the Qing Dynasty during the reign of Emperor Jiaqing (1796-1820) and telling the story of two large, feuding mercantile corporations who were bitterly competing for markets in the highly competitive tri-city region of Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Ningbo. Ridiculous, over the top stereotypical kung fu scenes and dialogue, and hilariously inaccurate depictions of early firearms, all intentional for comical effect.

And while we're talking about that, the shoulder isn't technically part of the road. Cyclists are allowed to ride the shoulder, but aren't required to ride the shoulder.

Like I said it's a clean shoulder at least a lane wide on a very busy 50-55mph road. If you got hit riding in the lane of travel on a highway like this where they make you a spot to ride you're just stupid.

Even the cops tell them to Use the shoulder here.

Trust me that it’s much meaner than any aloe Vera thought of being. Look closely. The hooks go both ways and are up to 3/8” long. They get you coming and going. These are about 3’ in diameter and 3’ tall and are used in some 3rd world countries as cattle and critter fencing. Nothing bigger than a rodent wants to mess with that. Trust me.

I have plenty of aloe Vera growing also. Very handy for all sorts of things.

I've ridden in SoCal and DC traffic for decades so keep trying to lecture me on the differences between motos and bicycles. There IS a difference. There are also similarities.

The biggest difference is that cyclists don't have a throttle to accelerate out of trouble. We're stuck taking the abuse and unsafe driving from the (thankfully tiny) percentage of drivers that drive with their head up their asses,

The similarty is that lane position is one of the biggest ways to avoid thoes DHUA types. So let me ask you a question: do you ride exclusively on the right side of the lane all the time or do you move around based on traffic conditions? If you move around your lane depending on lane and traffic conditions to keep safe, what makes you think cyclists don't/can't do the same thing for the same reasons?

Someone staring at their phone doesn't look anywhere but straight ahead when they do check the road. If you aren't in their sightline when they do manage to stop staring at the phone and you're not immediately visible, you're much more likely to be run over. Doubt me? Try it and see.

Those of us that spend real time riding figure this out quickly and adapt our riding to conditions. Get passed at the crest of a hill with someone coming more than once? Move left till traffic has to stay behind you till its safe. Too bad the guy driving the dump truck hadn't figured out that there may just be something coming as he pulled out to get around me just before a crest of a hill. The oncoming car wasn't speeding so he had time to jam on the brakes and get back in his lane.

Get passed into oncoming traffic? Move left till its safe for the car behind to pass? I can't stop the absolutely idiotic maneuvers but can mitigate them a bit. The moron in the Civic that passed me into oncoming traffic WHILE I WAS TURNING LEFT. I was on the DY with my arm out till the last second and Mr Rocket Science figured it was a good idea to pass me at over the speed limit to avoid a head-on. If I hadn't done one last shoulder check and straightened my turn, said moron would have certainly hit me. Thankfully, the person behind him had somewhat more of a brain and let me turn.

Believe it or not, most of us don't actually want you behind us more than is absolutely necessary. We're not on some power trip to see how many cars we can 'hold up despite what y'all seem to think.

you're SURE its a clean shoulder? The actions of the cyclists say otherwise.

I've BTDT. Usually its about the leftmost 6" that is clear of debris, leaving the rest with covered in puncture-inducing trash. Puncture-inducing trash means the distinct possibility of a crash. I'll take mildly inconveniencing a few people over destroying wheels and tires than can (and do) cost much more than your car wheels and tires. ...by a factor of 10 in cases

That opens up the right shoulder for passing as far as I'm concerned, but, politically correct I ain't. The same with cars side by side 10 MPH under the limit opens up the turning lane for passing. How it works around here!

Prolly not that much, but have you priced a set of lightweight carbon rims for a road bike?
Ho-leee fook, they are getting spendy.

Hell the tires I use are $117 each and get about 3000 miles before they are shot.

I spend more money on shooting because I can be fat and still shoot well.
Being fat on a road bike gives you extra cushion for when a dump truck runs you off the road. Less chance of a hip injury.

I'm still trying to figure out a way to bring my 22# rifle to the range on a 14.5# bike.
I love my carbon stuff, but I might have to ride my heavy-assed mountain bike because it can handle the weight of the rifle and ammo.

Actually, the worst problem is riding back home after a heavy meal of Smokin' Joe's BBQ

I live way out in the boonies. My two dogs got loose once and disappeared for 4 days. Came home looking none the worse for wear. There are watering sources for the free range cattle and the dogs have caught and eaten rabbits around my property before.
