Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

So shopping for field/range pants (I'm a geologist not an operator) it would seem I'm a defective mutant, I knew I had short legs for my height (5-11, 31" inseam) but it seems like every pair of tactical pants I try on ends up being way too low in the crotch making them impossible to move in.

I haven't noticed this issue much buying other pants, jeans, khakis, and my old BDU's fit fine.

The only way the ones I've found around here (5.11 and Propper mostly) if I wear them on my waist the crotch is so low it's restricting movement. Propper seemed slightly better than the 5.11's but not much.

Just curious if others have ran into this and if a certain brand/cut might be more athletic with a higher crotch for those of us with an evidently somewhat defective skeleton.

Thanks!

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

Yeah I tried on a few other brands today, Vertex fit the best, but I'd prefer something I could put a knee pad in and the pockets don't seem that useable. The Tru-Spec seemed the best compromise for something that would take knee pads and had good sized pockets. About the only brand I didn't find was the woolrich stuff.

Been wanting to try a pair of duluths for awhile, might do that just for giggles.

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

5.11 is kinda notorious for the tight fit across the hips, pelvis, crotch area.

Try the Woolrich Elite pants, much more comfortable fit and they come with removable pads for the knee area.

Arcteryx spotter pants. Gusseted crotch, athletic cut... They've replaced all my jeans. You just have to hunt around and find them below retail.

5.11 are definitely nut-cutters. I have several of thier TDU pants for uniform wear and they can get annoying.

I have some Vertx pants that are much better, but they shrink. Order one waist size larger.

Lately I have just been wearing Lee carpenter jeans. They are several years old have have plenty of room. Just don't wear them in the wet since they take forever to dry.

I have been wearing Duluth pants for several years. I prefer the fire hose work pants due to their ruggedness. These run about $50, but have a lifetime garrantee. I have sent a few in for replacement with no issues. Great pants, great company.

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

What you're looking for is called a "low-rise" pant which is not common except in some jeans and dress slacks. You can however purchase a pair of regular-rise pants then take them to a tailor who can bring in the seat and crotch, but be careful they don't take them in to far as it will also restrict your movement. I'd suggest going to a Men's Wearhouse in your area and seeing what they'd charge to do.

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

Not going to lie but for cargo work pants like that go to your local Wal-Mart and pick up 3 pairs for the same price as those. Thats what I do for the pants Im going to beat up and they work perfect.

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

I bought a pair of VERTX pants on clearance. IMO, nothing comes close.

The only other pants that I like are the Woolrich Tactical Elite.

I don't follow? I'm not sure what you're referring to?

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

Wrangler makes a good pair of utility pants, i bought a set at cabelas to try out and likem alot, look just like 5.11 basically

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

I wear Wrangler Riggs and Round House double front work pants almost exclusively . Like you I also have short legs and both seem to fit me fine . The Riggs are nice for summer as they are a bit lighter weight and have rip stop fabric , The Round House double front's are virtually identical to the Carharrt double front but are still made in America and run 15-20 bucks a pair less than the Carhartts (Just bought 3 pair for 32 bucks each and free shipping).

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

That duluthtrading website looks like some great pants, going to order a pair and try them out

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

Simply call Crye and ask for the "navy cut" pants.

LL Bean jumping in too?</div></div> I could care less about what other products they make, the Woolrich Elite are great pants and an excellent non "nut hugging" option to 5.11 pants. I've worn them for the last two years on the job and they're the best "tactical" pants I've used under $50 yet. I'll never touch a pair of 5.11s again.

For those that can, they're on Promotive at an excellent price.

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

I'm trying to re-decipher the ops post. Is he complaining that the pants are hugging his nuts or that they're sagging?

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

Sorry guys that I even posted. To me, Woolrich is a 125 year old clothing company, known for wool shirts, vests, jackets.

I understand a company will expand their market range, I just never thought I would hear the words "Woolrich Tactical". I guess I need to shop more.

In the 80's, early 90's, Woolrich, and other companies like them catered to a crowd called "Yuppies".

So now days, we have "Yuppie Snipers".

Woolrich makes an excellent product, I don't doubt their pants are comfy. Carry on.

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

I love the Woolrich Tactical pants. They are cut properly for someone who actually has some muscle in their legs, and I have found them to be extremely durable (far more so than most jeans).

The Duluth Trading Company pants also fit me well, although I haven't yet owned a pair long enough to comment on durability.

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

If I normally wear a 38x32 will a duluth fire hose pants fit the same, maybe a bit more baggy?

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

5.11'S make me feel sexy and show off my camel toe

Re: Pants: more athetic cut, higher crotch?

I've got the same problem. I've found the Vertx pants to be great, order 1 inch up or maybe even two to get proper fit. Also, check out the TAD gear pants, sweet! The covert's are cut slimmer, and the Force 10's or amphi's are a little roomier.
