Finally going to pull the trigger on some non-weapon mounted NV (I have a PVS22) and decided to go with the PVS14 ITT Pinnacle. This is for night hunting and general fun stuff like scaring the shit out of my wife at night.

Anyways, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything so that when everything arrived I didn't have that oh shit moment when I realized I can't use it that night because I didn't get something or it doesn't fit together.

    Here's what I have waiting:

TNV/PVS-14 ITT Gen3 PINNACLE Basic Kit (don't need a weapon mount)
    Ops-Core FAST Base Jump
Slightly used RHINO mount (was considering an upgrade to a Wilcox mount but for the price (30$ vs $250+)I will wait unless there is a HUGE difference)
    EOG Gen2 Counterweight
Base Jump Lanyard (is this the only lanyard that will work properly with this helmet?)

Was looking at something like the Surefire M620V for illumination but am holding off as I may have a line on a legit civilian owned PEQ15.

Anyways, what am I missing; what should I switch out and why? Would prefer asking this before spending a few K and finding out the hard way.

Sweet thread. I am about to pull the trigger on some nv goodies too. May I ask why you need all that laser in the PEQ15? Why not go for the Ops Core ballistic model to protect your noggen? You haven't seemed to skimp out on any other item? Sure you will probably never need the protection, but does the 98% of us here really need any of these toys?

Also, which company did you choose? You don't have to answer this if ya don't feel comfortable doing so. I know there are several suppliers here thinking... It better be me. Lol

IMO get a better mount. Norotos makes well engineered, well built mounts. The Wilcox stuff is just as good, but I can't seem to bring the nods as close to my eyes as I like with their hardware

Look at the team Wendy exfil helmet

I did and liked it, but am not sure if I actually need it all. Its over twice the price of the Ops Core helmet; what is there that makes up for the cost difference in your opinion?

Also, laser devices DBAL I2 to go with the 620V

May have a line on a PEQ15, so waiting on illum/laser to see how that ends up.

TNVC; I've ordered from them before with zero issues and they have always taken care of me.

Was wanting a bump helmet for this setup as I doubt I am ever going to need the ballistic protection from the helmet. It's nice to have, but at roughly $900 for the Ops Core or Crye helmet, its too much of a cost difference for a 'feature' I won't use. Then again, I do have a plate carrier as well so there goes that reasoning. I'd like to, but was wanting to keep it under $4k total this time around for everything except the PEQ.

As far as why I want the PEQ, why not? The illumination difference between it and 'civilian legal' illumination is miles apart. I'm sure the visible distance is lower but the PEQ is rated at 2000m of illum range whereas something like the LDI DBAL-D2 is up to 800 yards for roughly the same price I can snag the PEQ for.

Which one would you suggest? Was looking at them and besides having a few more degrees one way or another of adjustment none of them screamed 'pay 400+$ for this'.

Greeeeeeat. Now I'm looking at the Crye Airframe with the Wilcox L4 Shroud/Lanyard combo.

    Dammit, this always happens!

AKA2 mount is great. You can change out the mounting brackets for either the GI bayonet style or Wilcox Dovetail

Bahahahahaha. You know damn well you were gonna get the ballistic helmet in the future anyways. You just saved yourself $300 bro.

Are you sure on that 2000 meter spec on the PEQ-15? I don't remember PEQ-15s reaching anywhere near 2000 meters of Illumination even the 45 MW high powered models were not that bright. As far as the DBAL-D2 goes, I was involved in the development of that unit and our test models were able to reach the 800 meter distance with no problems and the production models were even better. The only draw back to the D2 is that it is fairly large. We just couldn't get it any smaller and still keep the performance.

The PDF sheet on the PEQ-15 from L-3 does show a range for the Illuminator as 2000m.

I agree with you Peter as I have used them also. Sure did not reach 2000m, from what I could view. Given the right price I would purchase the 15, but the civilian models have really come a long way. The D2 is a great piece of gear.

WOW your absolutely right! 2000 meter is what they are advertising... I have to say that goes from overly optimistic into outright exaggeration!

Yeah, L3 claimed 2000m so thats what I had to compare it to. If the PEQ was way more than something like the DBAL I'd probably just get that but since I may be able to get the PEQ for the same price I figured I'd wait and see.

Try the $30 Norotos rhino. It isn't bad. It is just that there are much nicer out there. But the standard Norotos for $30 offers a ton of performance for the money.

I have the Norotos standard rhino, Norotos TATM and a Wilcox G11. I like the TATM best, but the G11 is pretty good as well. The standard rhino isn't bad, but it wobbles more than the others. I really want to try the Norotos INVG, but I'll eventually get to it.

As for helmets, I started with a Pro-Tec Classic helmet and it worked well enough. But I upgraded to a OpsCore Base Jump which is much nicer. It isn't perfect, but it works nicely. I want to try the Team Wendy helmet, but it isn't a priority right now.

I have and have used all three of those helmets. They all work--but the Team Wendy is by far the most comfortable. And if you wear it for any length of time, then comfort becomes a big factor. Wendy has a much better padding and retention sustem. and I have no wobb;e with my Wilcox and the NVG's.

Put it in today. Went with:

TNV/PVS-14 ITT Gen3 PINNACLE in FDE (basic kit)
    Crye Airframe w/Rails
    Wilcox L4 Shroud w/Lanyard

Going to try the Rhino mount for now and see how I like it since I got one for $20. Worst case I grab a nicer one down the road. Now just waiting to see what the deal is with the PEQ :)
