Here is a pic. of my new 6 Creedmoor build. I'd like to thank Marc Soulie at Spartan Rifles. Marc did the barrel install for me. Also would like to thank Tom Manners for Stock. Scope is a 10-60x March that I thru on for the first testing. Gonna pick up a Vortex Razor for the gun a.s.a.p. I pillar bedded the stock.

Manners T4A stock
Badger M2008 Action
Badger oversize bolt knob installed vs. the standard round knob.
Defiance bottom Metal
Trigger is a stock Rem. trigger. Wanna get a CG Jackson trigger for it eventually.

Barrel finish length is 23". 1-8 twist, .237 bore, 5R style rifling.

With 41.8gr. of H4350 and Hornady 105gr. bullets and only 34 rounds on the barrel velocity was running 2998fps. At 42.0gr. it was running 3018fps.

The receiver and barrel are in the white still. Kinda like the black and chrome look though!

I have a 6 creedmoor at Marc's right now that should be done any day...

This thread has me chompin' at the bit!

Nice rifle Frank!

Are you planning on trying the 105 Berger's?

I've already shot some 105 Berger Hybrids. Actually the very first group/very first rounds down the barrel shot a flat .300" with the 105 Hybrids. I didn't shoot any of them thru the chronograph as of yet.

Leaving the barrel shiny will reduce heat transfer. If you would beadblast it, or beadblast plus a thin coat of something not white, the barrel would run cooler. There is a reason tea kettles are shiny.

I was able to track down some of the Hornady 105's, but the Berger's have been pretty tough to find...Can't find any H4350 anywhere!

How do you like the Badger action? As a lefty, and before the Deviant was released, I decided to go with Stiller on my 6creed, but the Badger and new Deviant from Defiance have peaked my interest.

Is the Badger your preferred lefty action?

Nice rifle Frank, kinda reminds me of my 6 Creed, cept mine is colored, lol. So if that vertical thing with my rifle goes away with that RE17 are you gonna switch powders?

Just haven't gotten around to having the barrel and action cerakoted yet. If I do leave my barrels in the white I don't like the bead blast finish. Just personal preference even though yes they will run a little cooler but in the end I don't think it makes a ton of difference.

Most likely I'm going to have it finished in O.D. Green.

Not necessarily my preferred action but I do have two of them though. What I consider custom actions that I like and in no particular order.....

Barnard ( My dedicated open F-Class gun is built on a Barnard in a McMillan stock)
Bat Machine
Defiance (or older Niseka Bay actions which Glen also built before Defiance)
Badger/A.I. type actions
Surgeon
Stillers

Being a lefty sometimes I pick up whatever I can find. Sometimes I just want to build a different type of a rifle or I"m going to build a certain type of rifle and I might feel a particular action will work the best for the type of build I'm going to do. All of the above actions will build a really nice rifle. I don't think one is flat out better than the other. Comes down to personal preference.

I'll try the RE17 maybe at some point in time but if the H4350 which I have is working for me and I'm hitting the velocity I'm looking for I'll stick with it for now. I go for the accuracy first and the velocity second. I don't care if it's the same powder or a different powder.

My 6x47 Lapua with 39.0gr. of H4350 would shoot sub 1/3 moa out to 1200 yards. Velocity was 3030fps. out of a 30" finish length barrel. Bumping the powder charge up to 40.0gr. of powder I picked up another 100fps. but my groups went to around .75moa at distance.

It is possible you are out of what is called the accuracy load window for that particular powder and powder charge. Lets say the accuracy load window for a .308win. with Varget powder is 40-45gr. of powder. Lets say you load some up with 46gr. of powder. So you pick up another 200fps and you have no pressure problems etc.... but the groups go sour. Getting that extra velocity is it worth it vs. losing some accuracy. Only you can answer that question.

Let me know how it works for you.

I worked up my 6 Creed with everything from 38.5- 43grs RE17 in half grain increments, 41.5 & 42 was the most accurate at 200yds. I believe anywhere from 41.8- 42.1 will be the best accuracy window for this powder, we shall see this sunday if it's calm out and not raining. Cant wait to see if 4000MR works as well, meters thru my Hornady measure very well and it's easy to get.

What dies are you guys running in the 6creed .Is it a 6.5 creed neck die with a smaller neck or the set from hornady would like to know which works the best

How do you go about ordering custom dies from hornady I have Chad building me a 6creed off your VLD reamer J.

Call Ben at Hornady, he should have a copy of my original reamer, which is only slightly different then my latest reamer (throated for VLD). He'll take care of you.

J Gorski, do your custom dies in 6 Creed have a micro seater? The standard dies I purchased do not.

Using these Hornady dies are a bit different then my Redding, especially the seater die.

Very nice rifle Frank. Personally, I don't mind the metal in the white but some cerakote would look really nice. I've got a 6.5 creed right now and have really been looking at rebarreling my .223 to 6 creed but I can't swing it right now. Maybe when my 6.5 barrel is done I can...

Oh, and what makes it an even better rifle is that it's a lefty!

No they dont, I asked Ben at Hornady and he said I didnt need a microseater, just added cost, I agreed with him.

Have u seen david tubb using the stem spindle on 308 redding micro seater to 6xc he said it will straighten bullet more.simply because it will go lower close to the straight part of bullet.i wonder if i can do this to 6cm when i start reloading them:)

J,
Contacted Ben and no custom die are being made in June and looking at a 20 week lead time . I think hornady need to do some hiring

Frank looks real nice wondering if you could take a pic of your rifle with the camera looking towards the top of the bolt handle, I know you modified it just would like a closer look.

Frank, nice looking rig, I like the shiny and black..lol... just picked up a 6 creed myself...cant wait for it to arrive!

BJAY..call or email this guy...I just bought his 115 vld hunting...he had a lot more of the match 115's

ARMSLIST - For Sale: Berger VLD Hunting 6mm 115 Grain (PN 24530). Box of 100

Hntelk, Thanks for the compliment! Yea I'm kinda digging the chrome and black theme myself! Most likely going to have it cerakoted O.D. Green though. The action is just bare steel.

I'll take a picture this weekend looking down from the top. I didn't have to modify anything. The M2008 bolt handle is threaded. Just take off the round know and you can thread on the Badger knob or mini knob at will.

I looked it up as I had a order in the system.

It's a Rem. Varmint +1.5" on the breech end and .875 @ 23" finish.

Here's an idea for Bartlein to consider:

Maybe you could make this a more common way to cut many of your barrels, especially the 6s, because they are oftentimes chambered in cartridges that are pretty hard on barrels.

Many of the custom actions have a really long tenon (like that M2008 you've got there), and with a standard shank like the Medium Palma or RemVar, there isn't much meat for a setback.

We do all the time. Just tell us that when you place the order. We make a lot of Palma's with a 4" breech or a 5" breech etc... or a guy wants a #7 MTU with a 7" long breech vs. the standard 2.75" long breech.

It's hard to list almost every possible contour that someone will want. If you want something different than whats listed on the website you just have to talk to us and ask etc....as long as it isn't really off the wall of what you want usually it's no extra charge to modify a contour.

Now if you want a pre64 model 70 sporter contour with the hump for the rear sight or a Browning Safari with that double radius on the sporter contour at the breech end there is a up charge for stuff like that as it takes extra time to turn/contour.

J, Guess I'm a O.D. Green type of a guy or just flat out black. Yes Sunday for most of the State didn't get any rain! Glad you didn't get hit with anything! Some parts did!

Here are a couple of different pictures of the bolt handle for you. Again I didn't modify the handle it self. The end of the handle is threaded. So take off the round knob and you can put on any threaded knob. The pictures show a standard Badger bolt knob. I feel the mini knob fits this bolt better as I have it on my other M2008 but that gun is out right now and not at home. I don't have another mini bolt knob. Have to get another one but I had a spare standard Badger knob so that's what's on it for now.

I saw a lot of those Razor Vortex Scopes being used at the Scorehigh Tactical Rifle Competition this weekend, as well as S&B's.
