Ok... I have two uppers that I got that were previously sprayed with Brownells Teflon Moly. The do NOT appeared to have been baked in with heat... and in some areas you can rub it off with a tooth brush and some oil. The entire upper including rail system was coated.

The original black anodized finish under-neath is LIKE NEW.

QUESTION:

Is there a chemical that I can use that will speed up the process and NOT hurt the uppers?

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Call Brownells Tech Service. They have always been very knowledgeable & helpful. They could probably easily tell you.

They state on their directions that it needs to be bead/media blasted. BUT... this is rubbing off with a little elbow grease and some oil. I KNOW that the finish was NOT baked on NOR was the metal pre-bead blasted before it was applied.

I was just wondering IF there is a solvent that will help peal it up. I was thinking of NON-Chloranated Brake Cleaner......

I know an industrial sized ultrasonic cleaner with heat will take a finish off. I screwed up a bolt after baking Wheeler Ceram-coat, and it peeled off after 20mins.

I use acetone all the time on anodizing and never had a problem.

Hope this helps.

Acetone DOES work. It took a GOOD bit of it and it will remove Teflon/Moly Spray on metal. It takes some elbow grease but all you have to do is let is soak and soak... and them use a tooth brush to scrub it.

Thanks again!!
