Advanced Marksmanship Whose has the best Snipers?

Yup, we shoot the most, that's probably why we are the best. Its competition yes, "sniper competition" pitting the Army, Marines, National Guard snipers against International teams to see who's the best.

And yet, our Army Teams still win.

The Army spends the most, that's for certain.

I once sat in a lecture hall with a few hundred other officers listening to a guy from the IDF with an eye patch talk about the whole Arab versus Israeli unpleasentness.

It’s been a long time but as I recall he said something to the effect, “If you want to assure victory on the battle field; fight Arabs.”

Love to hear more about that lecture.

Back in '78 or 79 I was attending IOBC at the Bening School for Boys. I was looking for a table in the Cafeteria to eat my dinner. Ended up setting with two officers, one from Israel, one from Jordan. Good naturedly, they were "re-fighting" the '73 war. I ended up skipping some classes to listen to these guys, it was real interesting.

Apparently the Russians were real up with the Arabs, they gave them thousands upon thousand of sagger AT missiles. The arabs didn't try to guide them, they were using them as "fire and forget" AT Missiles. The biggest problem the Israel armor had with the saggers is there were sole many wires all over the battle field, the antennas on the Israeli tanks were streaming them like they were decorations, interfering with commo.

There was a lot, "Next time we're gonna". I forgot most of the conversation, I'd love to have taped it.

Sorry to get off topic, it's Kumssack's fault.

Whose has the best Snipers?

I got one of their “Bat-Wing” badges some time ago.

Stream of consciousness…. Faulkner…..OMG…..
When the training is dated, I read.

When the training is outdated, I read the classics.

Kraig,

I attended IOBC at Fort Benning the winter of ’76-’77……small world.

I had the opportunity to spend some time with an IDF officer that was part of the attempt to relieve the Bar Lev Line on 8 OCT 73. His tank company got wiped out and he made it to a hull-down position and fought through the night. The following morning when he opened his TC hatch he found eleven sets of Sagger wires draped across his tank.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming……

You know, I have a friend that has done it all, pretty much. Infantry Marine, then a full time cop, now a SEAL, and not your everyday SEAL (no disrespect to ANY SEAL, just saying this guy has done a lot of shit). One thing I like about him is that he took the time to send me this with regards to regular Marine Corps Infantry. Also, he never talks shit about other units/branches and NEVER EVER goes on and on like some old man about "back in my day."

In other words, he's a lot more mature and classy than many.

One of the things I did learn from the Israelis is that mutual admiration debriefings don't lead to improvement.

At dinner parties I want 'classy'. In training, and on my team, I want honesty.

That's not what I meant and he is indeed honest. The point I was driving at is that he doesn't lower himself to talking shit.

Understood: didn't talk shit in public. Not a bad policy. But we all talk shit. It serves a useful purpose.

Going to have to agree with LRI, USMC gets screwed on commendations. Although I do believe the USMC has recieved more Congressional Medal of Honors then all other branches combined in the last 50 Years. I guess you cant afford to be the best Sniper when your pulling your truck back into an ambushed unit to get your men home... alive or dead.

Great discourse!!!! The OP might be a human IP, but he sure instigated a very enjoyable, and informative, exchange between warriors.
Yall keep it up. I'll buy the next round.

Whose has the best Snipers?

That's not thread drift, it's a hijack. Apologizing before you break the rules doesn't give you license. If you want to ask an unrelated question do what everyone else does and start your own thread.

Point well taken.....likely to get access to a larger audience for my question with a seperate post.

The OP may be asking questions like a kid but it's a nice break from talking about how to decorate a rifle like a bunch of women talking about their purses.

For the serious tactical marksman. Yup.

Yeah, this thread started like a shit-fight in the monkey cage, but actually developed into something enjoyable (probably largely due to the OP disappearing). It's almost like if a "what's the best riflescope" thread ever developed into a meaningful discussion ;)

Graham, I'm confident that you left your mother's basement long before March of 2012.
Yet there's a strange pull that always brings me back. It must be all about the other guys down there that I just can't leave behind.?

Somebody tell the stupid bastich to get his booger hook off the bang button, before he gets paint all over his mom's floor.

My one wish for the OP is for him to get the ban hammer if he doesn't change his name. Can't believe the audacity of some retards these days. It is almost as bad as the Stolen Valor clowns in my opinion, making claim to a title or honor you have not earned.

Whose has the best Snipers?

I am not defined by anything I did when I was nineteen. Let him call himself whatever he wants. He's just a kid.

what I love about this is that he's got all this camo.....and then some little pink dangly thing. smh

I can't quite make it out. I'm assuming he took his moms vagina tickler to lay claim to his sworn enemy. "Dam beeotch always be telling me stop pretending to be special ops."
"But its real to me dammit!!!"

Marky Mark is the world's best sniper. Done, end of discussion, lock this bitch!

you missed my entire post. I believe the competitions you are referring to are biased. simple as that. As I said, the international sniper competition put on at Benning for the last what....2-3 years. out of the 20 or so teams there, 14 of them will be Army teams...

...AND, I believe they are shooting in their own back yard. I'm sure home field advantage has its benefits.

Something to consider,

Daniel Horner and Tyler Payne have been destroying about every match that they have come across, to include racking up a win at the 2012 Int Sniper Comp, and wins at the 2012 and 2013 Mammoth Sniper Challenges. Not to mention all of their wins in 3-Gun.

Interesting thing, neither one of them are "Snipers", they are "Shooters"!

As the saying goes, it is not about the bow & arrow, it is about the Indian behind them.

Their shooting capabilities are completely beyond reproach, but how does that really compare to their operational field skills as a sniper?

Also says something about the "Sniper Competitions" that are out there, because one of the best teams competing out there, is not an operational sniper team!

I know if Big Green was smart, they would do anything that they can to have Horner and Payne pass along everything they can to the sniper community. But it is Big Green, so there is probably very little chance of that!

46 Years ago tonight I was just a 19 year old kid, celebrating the Year of the Monkey in RVN, aka Tet 68.

In the 7 years I lived in Australia I got to shoot regularly with a group of guys that were attached to a Commando Regiment in the ADF at Halsworthy outside of Sydney and in all my years of shooting, those guys taught me the most. They indeed were really impressive. I also had the opportunity, on a number of occasions, to shoot with a group of Germans in Grafenwoehr that were good, but no where near as good as the Australians were. Since those two nationalities are all I have had the pleasure to shoot with (other than Americans) I cant comment as to who the best in the world is, but out of the ones I did shoot with, the Australians were by far the best trained. They were part of a marksman culture I had never experienced before, they understood the process and it seemed to be second nature to them.

What was really amazing is their military force is so small when compared to the US military but their marksman training seemed to be second to none.

You assume he is a kid based off the ridiculousness of his posts. Unless he has said what his age was somewhere other than this thread we do not know if he is a 17 year old kid who thinks he has the world figured out or a 34 year old living in his mom's basement. Not everyone joins the military fresh out of high school. Ignorance, while curable is not an issue always resolved at any point within someone's life.

As for being defined for your actions at 19 years old, many of The Greatest Generation were 19 or so while fighting World War II. They defined an entire generation and set a bar that will not be surpassed any time soon.

You tards go three pages and no one gets a right answer? Fox came closest.... The movies have the best snipers! Like CO FOX said.... Lock this bitch.

^^^^Funny shit!

But if you lock it, I think you will take away the fun of bitching at a new guy, arguing about shit that does not matter, being obnoxious, and all the other useless feelings, comments, and opinions that only this thread has all of - wound into 3 pages of useless dribble.

It is the sum of all things the hide could do without on display.

Some of us made an effort to add something productive to the thread, sorry if that doesn't meet your high standards!

This thread should really be a sticky.

It would be kind of poetic for the guy who started this on his 2nd post (the first one was the "Sniper Jagon" thread) and hasn't been heard from since to have a sticky.

Ironic, even....

I don't get the poetry but I do get the irony.

Agreed, was thinking one thing and typed another. It's certainly not the first (or last time) you've expressed my thoughts better than I could.

Look! I found a picture of the OP.

I'm working off of the assumption (prayer) that it's an airsoft rifle. The woodies are so far old school that SF has started using them again. I understood why, but we'd joke with them about Big Army ruining the CGI factor on the multi-cams so they had to revert back to some shit that isn't even in inventory anymore.
