Nucleus Orders

EDIT: IT STILL DOES NOT ACTUALLY CONTROLLED ROUND FEED.
Tried trimming the feedlips on a MagPul 5 round AICS mag. Looks bubba as fuck, but damn, did it work.
This is with 6.5 Creedmoor. Previously, my rounds would push feed unless I was running the action fast. Now it controlled round feeds no matter what. Will have to crank up the machinery to get my Accurate mags to do the same.

Here's a test video of it running slow. (Excuse the fuzz, dirt, and brass marks. I have yet to clean this rifle besides cleaning off the factory lube and applying my initial grease.)

Here's a test video of it running at a more normal speed. (These are dummy rounds with no primer or powder - calm your tits.)

And here's running it stupid fast just to make sure there's no surprises when I do have to go a little faster.

Shit, sorry. They were set for private. I changed them to public so they should work now.

Interesting. I ran my Nucleus in the 2 day match this past weekend, and it ran flawless. No Jams or any issues. I didn't think to check if it was actually feeding controlled round as expected. I'll need to check this at home now.

When you run the bolt fast, that action ejects rounds for real. They were flying out 6 feet away on some stages for me.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it would appear you are having a similar issue.
To test this hypothesis, move the bolt forward until the stripped round/case base clears the shoulder of the round in the magazine, now move bolt rearward. Does it continue to control the round or does it leave it sitting halfway in the chamber? You should be able to move the bolt rearward at any point and maintain control of the round in a controlled round feed. A Mausingfield, W70, and TL3 will all maintain control.

Please notice the difference you can see in the video how the TL3 bolt does not have to reach the chamber to eject the round.

Does this mean the Nucleus isn't a tough and reliable action? No. So far it has performed extremely well without malfunction. But it isn't control round feeding.

I will get a video up later when I have time.

Looking good now.
I have a Nucleus with 2 new ARC mags with red followers that I'm having problems with getting them to CRF. Might have to give ARC a call for some guidance.

I accidentally put a ding in the drywall across the room from me the first time I tested to see how far I could get the rounds to eject. I used my dummy round (put it together to figure out where the lands start) and ran the bolt as fast as I could and it flung the brass REAL hard. I was sitting down on the ground when I did it and it probably still hit the wall 4-5 feet up (rifle at a small angle to eject upwards). After that I adjusted my position and found I could eject a loaded round up to 25 feet away and an empty casing about 10-15 feet.

So is it control round feed or not?
Is there a magazine that works with the Nucleus to facilitate control round feeding?

Doing some reading, I saw where Longrifles Inc. talked about increasing the chamfer on the extractor edges where the rim slips under to get CRF in Mausingfield with certain cartridges.

It is not always CRF for me. Running it harder seems to help some. But I figure it will get solved one way or the other. In the end, I didn't get it because of CRF per se. It is a great action for me. Love the bolt lift, extraction, ejection, etc.

If anyone wants to sell their defective action without CRF, lemme know... I still have two kidneys.

I just tried it. You're right.
If I pull it back immediately after the round leaves the magazine, the extractor doesn't grab onto the case. But if I push it far enough forward that the bolt face comes flush with the forward inside edge of the ejection port (but not fully into battery), it will fully grab the round. Any less, and it either pulls the round halfway out and lets go of the round, necessitating it be pulled out manually, or it just doesn't pull it back at all (like a push feed), meaning I have to bring it into battery to get it out.

If someone comes up with a way to 100% controlled round feed every time, I'll give it a shot, but for now, this will do. Hell, I've been using push feeds my entire life with no complaint.

Update from Manners. Picked up a PRS-1 w/ mini-chassis after they measured the Nucleus action I dropped off with them a few weeks back. Fits like a glove and the inletting is perfect, as usual. If you are waiting on a stock from them, they have everything dialed in now and can start processing through the orders.

Great news! Last piece of my puzzle!

Has anyone tried running an aw magazine with the nucleus? Yes I know it's not designed to work, just curious if anyone tried or not and what happened.
I'm heading to match on Sunday. If I see someone with an AW magazine I'll ask to borrow it for science.

No worries, we have only started sending out invoices yours will be on the way.

I was getting close when it was just 308 bolt face short action right hand. Now I guess it will be a bit since other configuration orders are filling guess it will be a while. Ordered origin same day, will be interesting to see when gets to me first.

Update from ARC...
We are now shipping actions, longs and shorts in all bolt face sizes. Lefts are still a week out we had an unexpected delay with them but they are very close. keep an eye on your email, invoices are coming.

Cheers
Any update from PVA on shipping out Nucleus actions?

Oh sweet! I ordered SA for 308 and 224. I figured it would be delayed because multiple bolts but was starting to get worried...

Guess I better start ordering the rest of the build soon.

Should be soon like Jon said above. I ordered the morning of the first day. My short action was number #0005, so I am gotta be at the very front of the line for my long action too. I forgot my order number, but it is in the beginning of this thread when I started it.

The issues with CRF seem to be more with tuning the extractor and cutting back the feed lips than the chassis or stock. The mag has to be high enough for the bolt to strip a round, which I why I am thinking it is extractor related. My question is whether anyone has tuned the extractor yet?

That extractor is the obvious next step after cutting feed lips, but I'm not brave/desperate enough to attempt to dive into that yet.

I am not in a hurry either. At some point, when I have a few moments to concentrate, I am gonna research how to do it and then I will break out the needle files. Anyone have anywhere to point me? From what I understand, it is just adding a little radius to the extractor to tune it. Worst case I buy a new extractor, but I really don't think I'll have to do that if I go slow. Also, I'll be able to polish the exterior of the extractor while I am at it.

Here is a thread I saw about the Mausingfield CRF, seems just as applicable here...

makes sense! and was actually exactly what I suspected even having not ever handled the nucleus. I wish I had ordered earlier on maybe I would have my action by now. I'm sure it'll work correctly with a little tuning. Ted makes top notch stuff

I havent heard a word on my order. I am number 557. i ordered mine at shot show. I have tried emailing but i get no response.

I think we may be underestimating the number of actions sold. A friend just got his shipping notice. He ordered first day.

mustve not been a RH 308
It was originally. My order was invoiced months ago and I paid up. I changed my order to magnum bolt face which delayed it which ARC was very upfront with. My action should be delivered this Friday. I’m still sans barrel so I’m not ready to rock yet.
