ORIGIN Orders

Hey guys,

First, let me take a quick second to apologize on the spotty comms the last couple weeks. My wife and I had a baby on Aug 30 which came me out of the shop for a couple days and only partial time for a few more, then Jeremy went on a (MUCH NEEDED) vacation and we had some illness that took a two guys out of the shop for a few days.. it's been hectic for sure and I know that last week I missed a lot of phone calls because I was trying to answer them while making parts.

We shipped a lot of barrels over the last couple days, many Nucleus and Origin pipes. Last week I tried to keep focused on making the barrels so that we could at least get the work out the door even if I was the only guy in the shop. We shipped 30+ barrels between yesterday and this morning.

We got in a few Origins last week, I haven't advertised them much so we have a couple.

I cut all the 6mm Dashers, 6 BR's and 6 Creedmoors last week that we have blanks for.
Rock Creek shipped another crate of blanks today so we're getting back on the horse there, it's a constant balance of getting the barrels needed in time for orders. Unlike the automotive industry the custom ordered rifle parts industry not "just in time" from vendors through end users.

We brought a lot of things in house in the last 8 months in order to improve overall lead times. More machinery, more people, contouring, more barrel blanks, different techniques and tooling to improve overall quality metrics are all here. I greatly appreciate those customers that have continued to work with us as we grow to make even better products for the precision rifle industry.

###########

Work life balance Josh....it’s a marathon not a sprint. All us peckerwoods whining about our parts will be long gone at one point or another in the near term. Your wife and kids are forever. Take care of yourself, your family, and you’re work team. The rest will all work itself out.

I got my action in today. Man am I happy with it. I want to thank Ms. Robbie and the bighorn team for doing an excellent job of getting these actions shipped out in a timely fashion. You guys rock. Also from playing around with my coworker's nucleus, I like the origin better. I think the tolerances are a bit tighter on the origin. I am a bit disappointed in the tear drop bolt knob. For some reason I thought it'd be a bit bigger. If anyone wants to trade let me know. I'd be interested in the tactical or diamond helical.

What is the lead time for a savage prefit? Def interested but the ongoing thread about how backed up PVA is makes me leery to hop on the list...
8.5 weeks for my barrel to ship. I'll get it on monday.

the more I play with them the more i think i like the origin over the nucleus. too bad I had my son all pumped up about doing matching builds off the 2 nucleus actions, or I would probably sell them and get origins for my short actions.

So what is driving that?

They must have ordered a bunch on pre sale?
In my experience Ryan’s site is accurate. I bought up a stock of ammo of his and it immediately showed “out of stock” when I went back.

He ships quick too. He’s got a repeat customer for sure from me.

I received the origin from Ryan Hunt Yesterday. Great service and good communication

So what is driving that?
To me the bolt cycles easier on the origin, with a claw extractor I can make a sled if I want to single shot it (I know you "can" single feed a nucleus but dont like the idea push feeding over a mauser style extractor), and the price is less. If they start offering a long action i would definitely be down for a couple.

Granted my builds are still in process so all this is based upon just fondling them. Once I start shooting my mind might change.

Quick question everyone those who have received their origin is the bot handle swept?
I have a chance to get a McMillan A5 that has been inletted for a surgeon action.
Being both are 700 footprints do you guys think it would drop in just fine? Or would the swept bold handle cause issues
thanks again everyone.

Action arrived Friday. Very happy. Stock arrived Saturday. Have to cut the ejection port bigger but other than that just waiting on a barrel. If this thing shoots as good as it feels I’ll be buying another.

Yes, the handle is swept. I'm certain it will have interference with a surgeon bolt notch. I tried dropping mine into the stock off my TL3, and it hit as well. If you are competent with a rat tail file, I'm sure you could modify the inlet yourself to get it to work. You'll also likely have to adjust the ejection port of the stock, as the Bighorns tend to be a little longer than others.

On both our origins and my sr3 I’ve had to lengthen the ejection port of the stock at the rear and also file a grove directly under the round part of the bolt handle so the handle will drop all the way down and bottom out on the action. I used a 1/2” endmill bit on my cordless drill and just matched the angle of the handle and cut small amounts till the handle clears stock and stops on the action body. All three are in greyboe stocks.

I’m anxiously awaiting for the email confirmation. I’m serial/order number 268x. What serial numbers where received last week?

Thanks!

sorry guys don't mean to keep hijacking the thread, you think the simple modification will allow it to function. Just some slight inletting to the bolt notch and ejection port area? With a file or drill press?

They function perfectly !

Mines been shooting good. Really good. Center and bottom right are 39 grainers. They need some work but the other three groups are 32 grainers

I picked up my Origin yesterday (#2453). Huge thanks to Ms. Robbie for processing these so quickly! It was on it's way to my FFL as soon as we processed payment.

This is an incredible action for the money. I ordered a magnum and 223 bolt face for my builds. It's awesome that you can swap bolt heads with just your hands, no tools required.

Saw mine at the FFL yesterday. 9 more days to go before she's fully liberated.

Zermatt forgot to include some bullcrap paperwork required to ship firearms into Cali. Robbie responded to the FFL within minutes with the document. No delays, fantastic customer service!

I got to play with it for a few minutes, extremely impressed overall. Can't wait to get it together, now I just need an update on my bbl from PVA.

I am in the same PVA boat. Ive had my 2 actions for a month now. I'm so dissatisfied. One more email today.

I get it, their move took longer than expected, a vacation, a baby. The ATF took long on a variance. But, come on. 7 months for 2 barrels.

Again, PVA shipped one last month that I returned because I ordered 2 identical.

Am I wrong? I chose them to support a guy who opened his own shop and I like the modern techniques.

I don't think you're wrong. Have you tried Pming Josh? In my experience he's very good at returning pms here.

Kriller,
I actually did pm josh on 9/17 his response was to be honest off-puting. Which I found odd, because he has always communicated greatly in the past. He said check w Jeremy as he handles emails all day.
I expected, hey man 6 months....let me follow up in that for you.
Maybe, I expected more from the owner of a small business.

I am NOT bashing PVA. I want to do business with them. I want them to super successful and innovate for our sport. I started this thread with excitememt and now I am well just waiting.

I have a shouldered 6.5x47 barrel from Josh that works for the origin that I'd possibly sell if it helps someone out.

That's unfortunate man. I hope you get it all sorted out and get your barrel soon.

She is very excited about her purple gun!
Working on teaching little bro how to get a sight picture.

Has anyone tried using a magpul mag with the origin? I just tried mine today and there’s a lot of friction between the bolt and feed lips. I’m using a mdt chassis if that matters.

Now I’m worried.

What cartridge are you running? I’m planning on running Magpul mags and Magpul chassis.

I'd just adjust mag catch to seat it lower or trim the polymer feed lips. Considering there is no AW cut it shouldn't be an issue to run Magpul mags though if the seating depth of the mag is not set correctly it could rub. I personally never got into the polymer AICS mags. Tried em once sold it and went back to aluminum.

I’m running 6.5 creedmoor. I just ordered some mdt mags, but they’re back ordered. Gonna borrow my buddy’s ai mag and see if there’s still an issue.

Mine runs great, no drag or binding. Using a Bravo Chassis.

Need to take the Harris off and install my atlas. Just need to throw my razor on.
I have very slight mag drag on the bolt but not enough to feel any difference when cycling the bolt.

Just a quick update. no drag at all using a mdt polymer mag. for whatever reason, the magpul over inserts in the ess chassis.

Guys. Magpul mags dont work in several actions. Remington 700s for example. Cant file enough feedlips to keep them from binding the bolt with upward mag pressure. They will always over insert. In other actions, such as an axiom, a few swipes of the feed lips with a file will trim them down enough so that they will run with little bolt rub. They will also cycle with upward pressure on the mag.

I have a factory Remington 700 Creedmoor magpul hunter that came with a magpul mag that works excellent.

Magpul mags seem to work perfect without fail in 1 action repeatedly. The RPR.

Rest the rifle on the mag and see if cycles. Its not a chassis or bottom metal problem. It is a compatibility problem as the magpul mags can be pushed up inside the remington action ( and others ) too far. Being plastic, they can not be adjusted other than filinging the feed lips. I have also seen them fall out of rifles when the rifle is filed. Metal mags can be adjusted where the magazine meets the mag catch. I guess magpul mags can have jb weld applied

Wade2big is correct my 700 binds with the magpul mag with rifles weight resting on mag. I just experimented with it now I never knew it was a problem.

Its not a problem on a static range Codie. Guys that shoot prs very well could have a problem. Guys that hunt could run into problems. It doesnt take a lot of pressure to bind the bolt and unfortunately with some actions the feed lips cannot be filed down enough. The magpul mags feed so much smoother than metal aics magazines. If your action will run with them (like my axiom) run them.

I learned the hard way as well. It actually cost me a match as I spent a full stage trying to unjam the gun. Was only 5 points off overall and it was a 9 point stage.
