ORIGIN Orders

Crap, sorry to hear about it.

This may be a dumb question: If you mail your action to them for service, does it need to go through FFL again when they send it back?

Keep us posted on this. I'm gonna reach out to them to send them by bolt next week. Ray mentioned they can modify the cocking piece to work with my 2 stage CE, curious as to how this may affect function with other triggers.
The modification to the cocking piece is minimal and shouldn't affect it's compatibility with other triggers down the road. If you do find a problem, we'll replace it and make sure you're set up with the correct pieces.

Thank you, I'll be getting in touch with you guys next week to send in my bolt. Happy to see Bighorn supporting their products and customers so well.

What's the procedure for installing a prefit with the mechanical ejector. I know with a savage you remove the ejector to set head space but I wasn't sure about the Origin. Can't wait to get mine in!

Yeah I will. It’s cool that Ray is going to help me out even though it’s no fault of bighorn. He said it should be a pretty quick turnaround time.

Does anyone have one of these Origin actions set up with a BDL bottom metal. If so how is it feeding for you?

How far is the firing pin (I think that’s what it is) supposed to stick out of the shroud (I think that’s what it’s called) when cocked?

This is what mine looks like when closed

Looks like your not getting nearly enough fall on your pin there. Mine sticks out a whole lot.

There is something really wrong with how your trigger is interacting with the cocking piece. The firing pin is falling almost completely when you close the bolt. Do you have a different trigger to replace that with? Have you made adjustments to the trigger sear position?

Does anyone know the height of the top of the scope rail above the centerline of the bore? Trying to do some scope ring math.

I don’t have any other trigger. The only adjustment on the triggertech special is for pull weight. I tried adjusting that a bit, but it didn’t change anything.

Is anyone running running a TT diamond and find the bolt a tiny bit stiff locking the bolt into battery when it does its final bit of cocking. I plan to to sit in front of the tv put on a movie and run the action till it's over.

I know you can adjust the sear on the CE, I thought about running one until I got a smoking deal on the diamond.

Just a quick update, Ray got my action in today and got it all fixed and shipped out. Super fast turnaround and I couldn’t be more happy with their service. He also let me trade out my bolt knob for a different one. Thanks a lot Ray and the bighorn team.

Are you going to put the shortened rails on the website when they are available?

That's great kriller134! I have a TT special currently installed in my Origin and am wondering if I will have the same issues? I don't have a barrel yet, but it is expected to arrive tomorrow. Will I have to ship my Origin back to Big Horn to get fixed too?

@BigHorn / ZAI Team can the mechanical ejector can be removed easily from the Origin? The rear action wrench that I have is an older style Remington and the ejector will not allow the wrench to pass by.

Thanks

i believe they are pinned from the bottom, but i could be mistaken since i don't have one currently sitting in front on me. Your best bet is call up big horn and ask them if its possible/will it void any warranty

It would be great to know what the fix was in case I run into this situation. Is it something those of us with mechanical aptitude can or or must it go back to Big Horn?
I didn’t get into the details about the fix. All I know is that it had something to do with the firing pin and that I’m super stoked to get it back in such a short time. Maybe Ray will chime in and say what he did?

With the small volume of production we did on them, it's in our best interest to not. Send me an email or message if you've got a need for one of them and I'll help get you squared away.

You won't have an issue with that trigger. The situation was an anomaly and very easily repaired. Rest assured, you'll be good to go.

@ Bighorn / ZAI. I’m planning to use a WTO Switch Lug in my Origin build. Will a shortened rail be advisable, or just have the smith shorten the existing one?

We've got one specifically for that. Put it in your order notes or send an email to the order confirmation and we'll get you squared away.

For everyone that's ordered stocks, what specs on the inlet and recoil lug? I'm assuming a standard 700 is okay, but what about the recoil lug cutout. I'm looking at ordering a Grayboe Terrain and was thinking I could go with a standard vs custom inlet.

The differences from a standard R700 are in the recoil lug (ours is .250" with the same profile) and ejection port (ours is .400" larger). If they're looking for inlet information, have someone reach out to us and we can get prints over to them.

Friday my BugNut prefit barrel (Bartlein, Marksman 5R, 6mm Creedmoor finished @ 26) arrived from Greg @ SPR. Assembled it that night and went the next day to burn a box of ammo and get the scope dialed close and do a 20 round break in. While my MPA comp chassis is on order I mounted the action into my XLR Envy. The last 17 shots were all inside the X-ring. Not bad for factory Hornady 108 ELD-M ammo and a Magnetospeed V3 mounted to the barrel. Average velocity for the 20 was 2968 and SD of 17. There were no issues with the Origin and the TT Special trigger and light primer strikes. Can't wait to work on load development for this rifle!

Along the same lines as as areeves asked:

Has anyone dropped an origin into a R700 manners with the dbm mini chassis?
If so, did it take much work, or was it pretty drop-in?
I have a t4a here waiting for my origin to arrive.

Thanks,
Steve

Mines going into a prs1 with gen2 mini chassis. Inletted for origin. I'd assume there are slight changes to ejection port and maybe bolt handle cutout versus a regular r700 inlet but they're probably mostly just cosmetic

Ejection port will likely require setting back or trimming. Everything else should be fine. I dropped my TL3 into a R700 inlet for an EH1. Bolt knob cut out should be just fine as well considering R700 inlets are designed for a swept handle. My straight TL3 bolt handle fits fine despite the stock obviously being inlet for a swept handle.

Thanks for the info.
In a perfect world, I would have ordered the stock specific to the origin. However, i had the R700 stock leftover from a project that never took off.

I can't wait to get it all together.

If needed you can open up the ejection port cut in the stock with some file work if you really want to

I don't remember if I saw it in this thread but how smooth/well do these feed regarding the crf and 223 ai? Would stick with my remmy if I would need to go push feed.

I spoke with manners about this recently and Tom said there would only be slight modifications needed to the ejection port (the origin .40” larger) and the bolt handle cut. Basically what @5RWill said... You could likely do them yourself if you were so inclined.

CRF and 223 AI don't go together in our experience. That's why we made a push feed 223 bolt head with mechanical ejection. We'd be happy to get you set up with one if you'd like.

I just realized I never really noticed if my sr3 bolt head was crf version or not.....but it feeds slicker than greased owl shit in a okra dish with accurate mags in Hawkins dbm.
