Seekins HAVAK Precision Rifle

As far as comments about 5 shot groups. I would have rather shot 3 but when the next opportunity to load more is 1-2 months away I load a couple extra in case I knowingly pull one when shooting groups. It is more statistically relevant and I can’t run home and load 10 more to verify it wasn’t a 3 shot anomaly right now.
I over reacted don’t worry about it man

If it won’t shoot it won’t . If a marine scout sniper shot it . Then nothing could be wrong except the gun right ..... lol

Why don’t you settle down and have a Coke and a smile. Emotional attachment to equipment and taking it so personally is an oafish and childish trait.

For those interested: I e-mailed Seekins CS this morning with some questions concerning the PH1 in .308 - response was very prompt, thank you Harley. 1) I did not want a threaded muzzle - option not available. 2) Asked if sales tax was collected for a shipped rifle to MO - question not answered (probably not an appropriate CS question) 3) Confirmed that the recoil pad is a “soft” Limb Saver brand to absorb recoil 4) Lead time for the PH1 is 4 months 5) Asked if Seekins group recommended a scope for this rifle in .308 - question not answered (I guess too many variables to make a recommendation 6) The PH1 in .308 does not (presently) ship with a carbon fiber, flush mount magazine. Seems like a very nice rifle at that price offering - I will watch to see if options are offered in the future.

I have a new Seekings Havak Pro Hunter (the gen 1 I think - with McMillan stock) in 6.5 Creed headed my way.
This will be my first 6.5 rifle (pretty excited). I have a Surgeon Scalpel in .308 that accepts the AI mags - will those mags work with this rifle?
I've read quite a bit and from what I understand they will, but I wanted to purchase more and don't want to purchase the wrong ones.
Also - I have Seekins rings in Medium height - does anyone know if they will be too tall for a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 or should I have gone with the Seekins Low height?
I'm also very interested in sending the stock off to have the adjustable cheek piece installed. Is that individual pretty trustworthy? Only having an email address to research him doesn't get me very far. If he's been around the Hide performing for years then excellent. Thanks!

I’m not using a factory offering stock but I didn’t have luck with standard AICS mags. I have a KRG Bravo chassis. Going to AW mags as I’ve talked with another member and he’s having good luck with them.

Thanks! Holy crap those are expensive LOL. Do you happen to know if the Magpul mags work?

Yea lol it’s not my ideal situation but the rifles shoots great and I’m more than willing to get it working in order to keep it.

Well they get the to work with the HP1 model so they obviously work sometime. The bottom lug always hit the feed lips for me on them. They are cheaper and worth that shot.

+1 on having the adjustable cheek piece. I would love to get that done to my stock also but I’m not sure where to begin with that

There are some places that do adjustable kydex adjustable cheek pieces. If you go back to the earlier pages of this thread a guy has his sent out and had a one very nicely done.

For those of us still waiting. Something to hold ya over. Cheesy but cool .

Got my Havak in today. Fit and finish is stellar. Bolt lift and throw is a bit heavy but I expect it to loosen up a bit. Bolt does not bind or is not gritty. I wiped it down with a clean rag, used a bit of lube and it was very smooth. Trigger is crisp, a little heavy for my liking but it can be adjusted, probably 3.5lbs. I was definitely bummed it did not come with the carbon fiber mag, as I was told by the customer service rep that it would. Action to barrel fit and bedding appears to be well done. I mounted it up with a Bushnell DMR-2i, Harris bipod, Short Action Precision sling, and a Seekins ATC muzzle break. I will definitely be cerakoting the silver action and barrel to a matte or graphite black. Before that I will be shooting it tomorrow with factory Hornady 143 ELD-X and 147 ELD-M. Will make a post regarding accuracy and velocity on Labradar. I'll put pics up soon! Purhase time to my FFL was a little over 3 months!

I picked up my Seekins from FFL last night too. I couldn’t ask for the action to be any smoother than it is. Similar to my 591 Surgeon.

So off problem - never ran into this.
Seekins Precison Havak 6.5creed
Brand new in box Medium height 30mm badger rings.
Freshly pulled Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 glass.

Mounted everything up, ran out of windage to thr Left.
Ran out of elevation going down. Rifle shoots 9” to right at 75yards and 4” High.

How in the hell is this happening!??!
I pulled the Nightforce, pulled the rings, and remounted. Same results.
I have Seekins rings in the mail - but I’m out in the woods hunting and they are 120 miles from me.
Super bummed.

Here she is.
I don’t understand. :-/

Templar Titanium can has zero baffle strikes, and same results with no can.
I would make sure everything is tight then put ring alignment bars on rings to make sure everything is lined up. If that’s not the problem, the list is too big.

Seekins also contacted my ffl asking for the updated one. So hopefully I receive my rifle soon.

I’m super confused.
The only thing I can come up with is the Seekins rail isn’t square? It’s factory installed and I don’t need to adjust right?
It doesn’t look like it can adjust.
I’m heading home from hunting this PM and will slap Seekins rings on to check.

Shoots like that suppressed and unsuppressed?

Yes, shift difference maybe 1/4” as Templar advertised. I’m going to peel the scope off the rings, rings off the base, and check Seekins base screws to make sure they’re tight.
Might pull base and reinstall.

I have a handful of Nightforce/Trijicon/Leupolds on multiple rifles and have never ran into this issue before.

Yeah, that’s your best bet. Check the crown for shits and giggles.

Shot 40 rounds through the Havak a few days back. Accuracy was .3 to .9 in varying 3 and 5 shot groups. As I expected, trigger was heavier than I would have liked. I just lightened it up and am going to put 60 more rounds through today or tomorrow. Only thing I don't like is that even with Seekins Low rings (.92), cheek weld is still very low and I have to torque my neck in an uncomfortable position. I may do an adjustable cheek piece or but some sort of stock pad/pack. Needs to be lifted 1/4 to 1/2 inch IMO.

I am trying one of the Bradley adjustable cheek rests on mine. I have the Havak with the Mcmillan Game Warden stock.

Okay, I feel like a total dork. I’m home now.
I thought I had pulled the Nightforce cap (Allen) and adjusted windage, and I had only pulled and adjusted the elevation knob - not windage. Triple checked myself just to be sure and found it.
I’m good on windage which was my biggest worry. I’m out of elevation and still shooting high - but I’m sure that’s the 20 MOA rail.
I was slinging Barnes lighter weight pills and I’m going to be hunting with 143gr ELDX - which I just picked up and will try to sight back in shortly.

Do you drop the action from the stock to adjust the trigger? It’s too heavy for me as well.
And yes - I agree on the stock. After hunting season I need to send it off for the adjustable piece modification.

do you think cutting the carbon fiber stock could lead to any issues?

That nightforce has 100 MOA of elevation adjustment, a 20 moa rail isn’t going to max you out. Did you readjust your zero stop to accommodate for the rail?

I got my rifle today. It’s beautiful. Pictures don’t do justice. Action is extremely smooth. the balance of rifle is for lack of a better word comforting . Came with carbon mag. I’m happy as I can be with a rifle without shooting it. Also perfect weight for a hunting rifle in 300 winmag.

It’s actually the 2.5-10x32 non-zero stop model. My other NF Zero-Stops have 4 Allen’s after pulling caps, and I didn’t realize after pulling the cap there was 1 Allen screw horizontally that allowed me to adjust more elevation on the non-zero stop model. The instructions don’t say anything of the sort.
Got it figured out - and can’t wait to shoot again this weekend up hunting!!! :)

Anybody here using a Triggertech Diamond in their Havak?

I have been following this while I was waiting for my rifle in 300 win mag. Ordered it in March and I picked it up yesterday. I went to sight it in- Loaded it with some PPU ammo just to get it on paper- pulled the trigger and all I got was a click. 3 out of 4 of the rounds didn't fire. So I tried the ammo I was going to sight it in with, some ABM (berger) and 2 out of 4 didn't work. It looks like a pretty weak strike on the primers.
I was disappointed that it made it out of GC with the problem.... but I'm sure Seekins will fix it or give me the parts.

But what bothers me the most (and maybe it's not a big deal) is the chamber. On my headspace gauge my brass grew .013, and using the Redding competition shell holder kit I could use the +.010 holder and get the .002 shoulder bump. I then tried fired brass from 2 other 300wm's and they both chambered with no problem. They were just off the shelf rifles- Was I wrong to expect the Havak to have a small chamber?

I picked up one in 6.5 CM from Mile High recently. Very smooth after running the bolt a few hundred times. Shot a match with it and it ran great. I have since tried an AW mag in it and it definitely works better with AW mags than with the Magpul 5 or 10 rounders.

I'm new to belted magnums (Havak 300 WM is my first) but i was also surprised to see 0.015" base-to-shoulder growth on first firing. After looking around it seems this is pretty common in 300 WM chambers. I found a number of examples where people are seeing their shoulders move forward over 0.020".

#'s for consideration:
-saami CASE minimum Base-to-shoulder dimension = 2.263.
-saami CHAMBER maximum Base-to-shoulder dimension = 2.2791.
-Maximum growth with minimum dimension case and maximum dimension chamber: 2.2791 - 2.263 = .0161".

Edit: I previously indicated that Seekins wasn't responding to my emails. I have since found responses in my Junk inbox. They did miss one email but I'd have been fired long ago if that was a serious infraction. Apologies for incorrectly representing the situation.

How are you folks liking the new Seekins PH1 stock? How does it compare to the McMillan and Manners?

The only Micky or Manners stocks I've owned are an EH-3 and EH-SL. The seekins stock is stiffer than both of the Manners, it's nicely done. For people who obsess about a flawless finish they might be a step down from Manners but it is more than sufficient to make me happy.

FNG here. I've been a 3 gun shooter for years and since moving to the Texas panhandle, the 3 gun matches are few and far between and the longer range opportunities are more abundant. I've shot at Raton and Woodward and my measly 5.56 just isn't enough for me anymore.

I've been researching hard and have settled on the Havak Pro HP1. It has most of the features I want, with the Seekins reputation, R700 footprint so a boatload of accessories (even if some slight modification is required). This will mostly be a match style gun and I think it will work fine for as much as I currently shoot. I reload but like having the ability to get factory ammo. I was looking for 6CM and emailed Seekins asking if the HP1 would be offered in 6CM and they said basically subscribe to the email newsletter and watch for new stuff at SHOT. So I am thinking about just going 6.5CM and later getting a 6CM barrel from Seekins (when they ever offer them) or one of the other places that will make barrels for it.

I already have an optic mil/mil FFP 34mm tube and 56mm objective, what Seekins rings would I need for the Havak Pro HP1? Low, Medium, High?

I would also be interested in knowing more about the ability to swap bolt knobs as I've seen it talked about before in this thread but not really in any detail.

I have some funds and I am ready to "pull the trigger" on this rifle. I'm hoping to have it in time for the Sporting Rifle matches in Raton next year.

I started with lows, moved to 1" mediums, and now currently on 1.26" highs because of the adjustable cheek piece I am currently running. I could personally purchase 1" mediums.
I'm in the same boat with you, I wonder if anybody has changed out the bolt knobs. I'm getting a new barrel spun on this winter on and going to ask the smith if he can do something about the havak's bolt.
