I was like Ralphie trying to get his bb gun open.

I've already used my discount code and bought a Jet Blast brake. Now it's just a waiting game to see what gets here first, my brake from PVA, or my glass from Vortex. I'll be out of town Tuesday, so I'll have to wait till Wednesday to play with it again.
This rifle to me looks almost like a work of art. My wife was even impressed, and my FFL threatened to take it home instead of handing it over to me. LOL
I tell ya, I think I'm going to be very pleased with this rifle for a long time.

I keep getting paranoid and checking my spam folder ten times a day :-D

@bohem , with a Nucleus would it be faster to just purchase a John Hancock barrel if my preferred caliber is offered as a pre-fit?

Pretty sure he won't send you a JH barrel for a non JH rifle. I think I remember reading that somewhere, the JH barrels are only for JH rifles.

A JH barrel is just his Rock Creek lapped button barrel. Josh will spin that barrel up for you for any action you want including a Nucleus. The difference is, you cannot get a JH engraved Nucleus unless you bought a JH rifle...

We cut barrels in the order they come in and we try to batch together calibers to be as efficient as we can getting them through the machines.
The JHR replacement barrel will fit a regular Nucleus action and it will be engraved as a Hancock barrel but it's not going to speed it up or save you anything to buy the JH vs. buying the prefit you want. We also don't offer the replacement barrels in any other contours or calibers outside of what the Hancock delivers in.

THe goal is to have some JH replacement barrels finished and on the shelf in teh future but right now we're not there yet.

Thanks for the information, I appreciate it!

For those confused, this was why I had asked about if a JHR replacement barrel might have a shorter lead time since the limited calibers, lengths, and contours were intended to help with keeping JHR replacement barrels as a quick replacement (and to minimize costs of an excellent bargain on the rifle) rather than a custom order with a longer lead time. I'm not looking to shoot in production class, just was wondering about whether or not the JHR barrels were an off the shelf replacement yet (or whether they would be at all in the future) and got exactly the kind of answer I was looking for even though I did a poor job of asking about it. I'll probably be rebarrelling my rifle sometime by the end next year and was just trying to figure out if there would be a difference in wait times depending on which version of Nucleus pre-fit I ordered.

Thanks bud. All I need now is glass and some Prime 6.5SAUM ammo. If it ever comes back in stock that is.

Thanks. Has yours shipped?
I ordered during the sale black friday week, so my order # is in the 38xx range. I haven't called to talk to anyone at PVA yet but I would assume/hope that it's going to be at least a few months till it's available. Might call after the holidays and at least try to get a time frame so I know roughly when the funds need to be there. This will be my first longer distance rifle, I don't mind waiting for something that for me will be special. Even most of my hunting rifles are single shots or pumps, lol.

Neoprene closed cell foam cheek pad how to.

I’m going to post this for those that don’t enjoy having your face be against plastic. If you want to do a closed cell neoprene cheek pad, here is how and where.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/CCNS-Rubber-Neoprene-sponge-1-8x12x12-double-sided-Self-Adhesive/222973982331?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

First make a paper template.
Grab a sheet of printer paper.
Remove your cheek piece off the stock.
Cover your cheek piece with the paper, think taco.
Rub your finger on the edges to create a creased outline of the cheek piece.
Cut out the template on the outline.
Test fit your template and adjust as needed.

Once you are happy with your paper template, tape it using scotch tape to the foam side (not adhesive side) of the neoprene sheet. Use scissors to cut out the shape from the sheet of neoprene. You may also use a xacto knife for the areas that are hard to get at with scissors.

Once it’s cut out use a Dremel and sanding drum to blend in rough edges on the neoprene cheek pad.

Clean the cheek piece with rubbing alcohol to promote better adhesion, peel and stick. Stick from one side to the other making sure not to leave air bubbles under the foam. This is closed cell so air can’t escape after the fact.

This pad provides traction and comfort without soaking up sweat. When it gets dirty, just wipe with a damp rag.

God damn it I sound like a fucking salesman. ?

I saw that on your rifle. I was wondering what it was. Thanks Joe, I'm going to look into it. (y)

I figured people would ask. I shared that in some Facebook groups after doing it on all of my rifles and it was a hit with PRS and Bravo stock owners. I do it on all of my plastic stocks now. It’s very easy and cheap. 1 sheet of neoprene can do 3-4 stocks.

FYI, I have had a nucleus for months. has 600+ rounds through it. Josh and Ted did an awesome job on getting this action slick bc its smoother than my nucleus.

So your pva action is smoother than the standard nucleus? How about the timing closing the bolt? I believe the pva has a timney trigger, what do you have in your nucleus?

Yes. idk if its bc my nucleus is cerakoted or just the timing but it feels slicker than eel shit. The timing is perfect on the JHR, which is to be expected since it comes fully assembled by PVA. The nucleus has a CE 2 stage in it and have had 0 issues with it. I love both of them.

@bohem, I understand if you're busy and don't have time to answer (or if you can't answer for some reason), but I'm interested in hearing if you guys at PVA are doing anything with the triggers or actions for trigger timing or other compatibility tweaks. I know some people with their standard Nucleus actions (myself included, with a Calvin Elite single stage that I later replaced) have had issues with Timney triggers but I'd imagine you're having no issues with the 510's or else I know you wouldn't be shipping them out.

I can answer that. Yes

Well here is a pleasant surprise. I thought the 6.5SAUM JHR was supposed to have a 24” barrel but I measured mine and it’s 26”. I wanted a 26 anyway for added velocity. (Borat voice) Very Nice!!!

The 65 SAUM is being done at 26" for the 2 guys that ordered them. The factory ammo that was supposed to be on the market when the rifle was launched was shooting well for us in 26", a little better than 24".

The 6.5PRC is coming with 24" barrels as the Hornady ammo favors that and we have to consider the performance of factory ammo for a production rifle.

The trigger we're using has an extended sear in it for extra cocking piece lift as well as an improved timing feel.
You can order a "-U" trigger from timney for your 510 or 511 triggers but I don't know if they have one for the Elites or not.

Good to know. Thanks. We’re you referring to the Prime 6.5SAUM ammo? Did they ever release it and it just went out of stock or has it not been released yet?

I was referring to the PRIME. I have not seen it get released yet. They list everything on the website as being out of stock so I can't comment on anything regarding PRIME at this point.

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression they launched their SAUM ammo and it sold out. Didn’t know it never launched. Hoping to buy a case to hold me over till I start reloading in this Caliber.

It launched but I don't know if any was ever delivered. Same with their 6mm Creedmoor.

Thankfully for JHR owners (and me) the 6mm Creed ammo that we validated the JHR platform on was 6mm Creed from Hornady.

Guess I’ll start bugging prime to see when they plan on releasing the SAUM ammo. I’ve got dies on the way and have a few different types of 140gr 6.5 bullets. Having a hard time finding RL26. Seems to be unobtanium.

Anyone have a NF ATACR 7-35 on a JH or Nucleus B/A? I'm looking to figure out what ring height I need for my barreled action that I'm now hoping arrives in Jan or so.
