Rifle Scopes Burris XTR3!!!

It would be an awesome starter scope or backup. Super simple and bombproof, relatively cheap, carrying high-quality glass and coatings, a well designed reticle (maybe with thickness optimized for 10/12x). It's basically what SWFA should be in the 21st Century. I think it would be a pretty popular design.
I would buy 3 right now.

To be fair, until we see production units we really can not say anything authoritative about image quality. The prototypes looked really good. As I said, I think they will give anything under $2k a run for their money and maybe more.

The smaller 3.3-18x50 XTR3, especially, since there really isn't that much competition in its price range for that configuration. The larger 5.4-30x56 model has more direct competition from the likes of Cronus and Stryker, so it remains to be seen. It is definitely one of the nicer eyepiece designs I have seen lately.

Does it get milky at full power with the 30x my xtr2 gets milky from 21x through 25x ??

What scope would you compare it to as far as image quality?

I think specific comparisons are premature until I can get my hands on production units.

Based on what I saw, they should be competitive with anything under $2k, but prototypes are just that: prototypes. They look promising, but until I can do a thorough test on a production scope, I do not want to speculate too much.

Very interested to see an XTR III in the flesh. I liked the XTR II enough to buy one, but after living with it for a while, a lot of the things mentioned in this thread led to me eventually selling it. (milky glass, CA, weak illumination, clicks not as tactile as I would like)
It sounds like they have really listened and addressed all these items and a few more.
Really hoping to see them keep the price as low as possible. If it's as good as it sounds it might be, and a street price of near 1300-ish, I'd be all over it. If the street price is closer to the 1800-2000 range, there is a lot of competition there. There are getting to be enough good scopes in 1k to 1300 range that it's hard to justify spending the extra.
But, will have to wait and see when they show up...

Somewhere in this thread someone mentioned MSRP. IIRC it was around $1700-$1800 which puts it in the $1500 range. I'm sure that is subject to change though.

Sorry for asking a simple question Bender. Since you are so educated, please lay it all out on the table for us. Exactly the clarity compared to other scopes. , plus all it’s bells and whistles. That way we can just kill this thread all together, cause you can answer all or questions in one simple little post. Please tell us oh great creator.

Ok, I’ll type slow....

If the XTR II has a zero stop, what do you think the chances are that the new ~$1800 flagship scope focused on LR competitive shooting having one as well?

No hurry. You can get back to me in a few weeks.

Like I said it was a simple question. I don’t live my life around Burris or any other particular scope. Maybe you should look into your crystal ball and tell us the price plus availability. No need for you to be a dick. A little curtesy goes along way. Sorry for being new to this. Maybe you can come to my place and give me a couple free lessons to get me caught up to speed. That way I won’t bother you with such silly questions. Like I said sorry for being new. I thought these threads were here to learn from. Not to get bashed on.

Some light reading or understanding what your asking might help. Grow some thick skin and stick around. Wealth of knowledge here. Just lighten up Francis. Lol

Hi bender, you seem to know a bit about this scope.
The ritical sounds like it's Mil dots which is cool but ive not read if the turrets are Moa or inch per hundred yards. Could you plz advice?
Thanks

I’m gunna go with my gut and shoot from the hip, I’m guessing that if it has a Mil reticle that it will have Mil turrets.

It's critical that you correct ritical ; it's reticle, like testicle, unless an accident of nature has left you without access to first-hand empirical evidence.

I with there was a milling .1 section on the vertical axis since most ppl mil vertically not in width. Unless im misreading the use of the horizontal lines

This thread has me pretty excited for the XTR III, and the possiblity that Burris might one-day bless the XTR II with the SCR2 reticle for Poors like me.

I will say, I have a set of the Burris signature rings, and the jury is still out on them for me. It's neat that you can put in inserts with different levels of cant, but the total cant never seems to line up with my calculations and my latest mounting wound up 3 mils off on windage when the last rings I used with that rifle (also Burris, but without the inserts) were very close as mounted. It was also kind of a pain to get my scope orientation and eye relief fine tuned with the inserts grabbing the scope with every adjustment I made. I got it sorted out, but it sure did seem like a lot of extra effort for new and improved.

Def would like to get my hands on at least one of the first run 3.3-18x XTRlll scopes asap, really liked the 3-15x XTRll I got back in 2015 for my daughters moose hunt on my 300 Norma P'Imp, ended up getting rid of half dozen "awesome warrany" scopes in favor of the XTRll, pretty much used it exclusively for all my hunting in Alaska perched on my 338 Norma P'Imp since, got some nice meese along the way, the XTRlll sounds like it will work great with the new wilddog (yes it's gonna be mean) build in progress, question is ... how do I get one without going to the Shot Show ? is there a pre-order list thingy I can get on ?

BTW, I don't mind the Burris XTRlll moniker, Burris XXX woulda been cool too and the Burris PRO has a nice ring to it as well, lmao

Pro.....

I got a good deal on the xtr2 so I jumped on it and for the most part I have been happy with it. I wouldn’t mind see one in person but will not be going in on the first batch.

Nice moose!!

You wont have to go to Shot to get the new scope. They will be taking vendor orders at Shot, no money and scopes changing hands. So hunt down a vendor and see if they are getting their hands on one.

Check with some of the fellas here on the Hide.

Hey, stop trying to do our marketing. I don't go down to where you work and kick the .... um, never mind.
Actually, the Burris Triple X is a good name. But knowing Burris, we'd soon have the Burris XXX 2, or the Burris Quad X, or X-cubed or something. Gotta plan for the future!

Is this going to be the iPhone of the PRS world?

"Introducing the Burris XTR VII, new for 2035!!!" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

How about a fixed 12x with the new reticle? I’d be all over it like Cosby on the unconscious!

I have the Burris XTR-II in the 3-15x SCR mrad flavor. I really really do like it. The 18x of the XTR-III is going to be tits.

I've been thinking of swapping out my 6.8 SPC coyote rifle optic from Trijicon TR20-2 to a Burris but find their offerings there not quite what I'm after, the Droptine, Predator Quest, E1, MSR, FF2, Veracity.. None of them are quite there for me. My ideal coyote optic would be a 2-12x50, 1" tube, light weight, capped turrets, a fine reticle with an open middle dot or a SCR-type floating cross, maybe a side adjust parallax if necessary to have one, second focal plane, maybe have just the middle dot/cross of the crosshair illuminated but to be honest I'd forgo the illumination to save weight, also have the magnification ring with a built in throw lever, or at least offer a factory add on throw lever. The E1 4.5-14x42 is about the closest thing but still doesn't have everything I'm looking for, and 4.5x is a little too much on the low end for my type of calling.

People usually mil the widest part of the target. Regardless, the mil section can be used in both ways. The .1 mil line is .1 tall. The .2 mil line is .2 tall. The .3 mil line is .3 tall. etc etc. This will allow quick checking for height or width, and honestly the coolest feature of the whole retc. They also alternate up/dwn so you can quickly count which line you are one (something I struggled with on other milling retc.)

Super excited to actually see one in a scope.

I'll make you a deal .... I'll back off and let you handle the marketing.... on one condition... lol ! send me one of the scopes for review and testing on my new wildcat, spring black and brown bear, then fall moose hunts in Alaska, If I like the scope I'll buy it and if not I keep it anyway, lmao

those are my terms , what say ye ?

my daugher (16 at the time) broke in and bloodied the 300 Long Range Hunter (300 Norma Mag Imp) and the 3-15x XTRll back in Dec. 23 2015 on a cow moose she drew a tag for, 3150 fps with a 236 gr bullet seemed to work ok

Good lord...236 grains at 3150 fps should serve for...well...pretty much anything in North America without difficulty and more or less everything else besides, though I understand folks go bigger for stuff liable to kill them back. Just the thought of touching that off makes my shoulder hurt. 7mm Rem Mag / .30-06 and around 9-10 lbs is about where my comfort level stops. Good shooting!

Definitely!

I have a 300 Norma mag pushing 230gr Hybrids at 3050fps from a 12lb rifle. That's 92.6grs of Reloder 33. I shot 60 rounds through one day wearing a tshirt. No issues.

A good brake is amazing..
Ooof, that's a beast! Been eyeing the 300NM for a while, but it's overkill for everything I would hunt, it does have appeal for ELR should I ever decide to get into that, for now my 7SAUM does everything I could ever want and then some, heck, even my 6.5 Creedmoor can take down pretty big game, the Swede's have been taking big Moose with similar 6.5's (6.5x55 Mauser) for years!

Back to the thread topic, any idea when Burris will update their website with official specs on the XTR III?

The 7SAUM and 6.5 Creed are fantastic cartridges. More than capable of taking anything in the lower 48.

I built the 300 as my elk rifle and ELR toy. It's an excellent round. A hell of a lot of fun to play with.

I suspect we will see website updates in the spring. I remember it took a little time to get everything updated when the XTR II came out.

I'm excited to get my hands on these and play with them at Shot.

Been trying to gather all I can from this thread, this is what I have so far, just trying to fill in some of the gaps

EDIT: Found more/better information and updated the image.

Thanks WJM it's great to finally see some specs.
Where did you get these specs from may I ask?

I'm glad to see another new scope that weights under 30oz, good to see some alternatives to the AMG and MK5hd.
Those FOV specs are pretty phenomenal, I hope the eye box is super forgiving to suit!

Looking forward to seeing some reviews and videos of these in hand, as I'm doubtful I'll get to see one for myself unless I buy one.
Waiting for a confirmed price also, as I'm feeling like this may be the scope I've been waiting for.
Funnily enough I've had great experience with Burris scopes, I have a Full Field 2 and a C4 both which I love (obviously not comparable to this scope), but the XTR II range didn't do much for me so I haven't given them a look in.

I initially heard the weight was a few ounces lighter than what you have listed Bill.

I'm going to wait till I get my hands on a production model to see what it comes in at.

That is the official data from Burris. I've had my hands full lately, so I forwarded the data to Bill for his table.

It is in Burris catalogue that they will publish for SHOT.
