my son came home about 11pm the other nite and noticed a light above the pool. It was a pretty good sized drone. He took a video of it with his phone. Kinda bothers me as i'm a pretty much rebel and quite vocal about it publicly. I told him next time to wake me up. I've got enough tree's to conceal me , and i might b able to shoot it down. There's a canal about 200 yds away on the back of my property i could throw it in. What do u think. Is there laws against this?

There should be laws against it. I can't walk up to your house and look in your window. Why would it be ok for a machine to do it. I believe there are ways to jamb the owners signal and take over the controls. You need to capture it alive if possible and see who comes asking for it.

No need to get your ovaries in a twist over this. I would bet that 90% chance it's nothing but kids or teens fucking around with their new drones at night. My kids did the same thing when they got theirs.

Maybe you crash impact the bugger with another drone...or follow it back to it's home base and give them a reaming!

Take it out with subsonic and suppressor if not in a city use whatever.

    Hi,

Go ahead and have your son put handcuffs on you while your at it.

In 1946 the Supreme Court acknowledged that the air had become a “public highway,” but a landowner still had dominion over “at least as much of the space above the ground as he can occupy or use in connection with the land.”

The Supreme Court declined to list an exact elevation in regards to privacy aka ownership because "connection with land" is different in every situation. But we know that everything 500' ASL is for piloted aircraft which means drones have the airspace from lets say moderately 85' to 400'.

Be careful when you start talking of "Shooting" down drones because FAA has classified most of them as aircraft IIRC.

Homeowners have taken drone owners to court for invasion of privacy and lost under the same concept of it is not different than google autos driving by your home with 360deg cameras monitoring and recording your entire street.

Now...that being said I have some ways for you to cause the drone pilot to loose control.........

    Sincerely,
    Theis

Maybe ban spotting scopes and binoculars?

My binos "see" way better and clearly than the HD camera on my drones.

I can actually stand inside my house by a window and look into someone else's house rather than noisily hovering next to their bedroom window. Or I can, legally, stand on the sidewalk, or sit in my car, in front of/next to/ behind and look into your house using any spectrum of "looking" devices. Infrared, heat, Leica binos, etc. I've even heard law enforcement does it sometimes.

You need to get it to land on your property. If you didn't ask for it then hey it is an unconditional gift.

Quite a few states have laws regarding "improper photography" so if it's in your yard and fairly close, such as less than 50 feet up, if you can track down who might be operating it, you could see about pressing charges for taking pictures of you swimming in an area you expect privacy.

Also a lot of places don't take kindly to shooting guns in residential areas, but if something else happened to it......

Always the voice of reason. You ever smile??:LOL:.

Obviously our laws have not caught up. It will take some women being stalked, raped, killed for laws to be made. A drone flying over, maybe circling my back yard and then moving on in 30-40 sec (same as google autos up and down my street) is different than one hovering over my patio at 60ft for 4-5 minutes while my wife is in the shower.

Intent has to do a lot with it, and for some reason that is the part laws always fuck up.

    Hi,

Well I was going to like your post but that would dictate a smiley face so I had to improvise.

Now..the scenario you outlined does go against certain laws in regards to:

    1. Peeping---Drone pretty much has to be hovering at window or skylight or outdoor shower.
    2. Being a Nuissance---
    3. Buzzing people or animals that are not part of the drone pilots group.

As far as the Supreme Court decision; my defense would be invasion of privacy. Not criminal trespass in the “public atmospheric highway “ above my house that is not considered my property. Chances are very slim the FAA would get involved and take the drone hunter to federal court. Most likely end up in civil court for damages to the drone. In which case I would make it very public who the voyeur in the neighborhood was.
Ultimately though, my original advice. Don’t get caught.

Chances are very slim the FAA would get involved and take the drone hunter to federal court.

A good first step would be to demand to know if the owner of the drone had properly registered it with the FAA and if their registration number is on the side of is on it as required. (Most drones with cameras will wind up over the 1/2 pound limit).

my wife says maybe someone retaliating over my comment on FB last week for referring to the muslim whore that canceled Judge Jeannie from Fox as a "fucking raghead muslim bitch", that got me banned for the next 30 days :) either way, seems like the vote on here is to shoot it down.

    Hi,

Your privacy is invaded through your "smart" tvs, cell phones, computers and laptops more than a recreational drone could ever manage.

How many of you concerned about privacy have your computer, laptop and cell phone cameras disabled?

How many of you concerned about privacy have a 3rd party security monitoring company?

    Sincerely,

    Spot on points.

On my Desktops I don't have a camera hooked up or a microphone.
On the laptops, I cover that stuff up.
I run a private server under my physical control for my security / camera systems.
    I don't run a "smart" TV

Unfortunately since I use streaming services, well the ISPs and the streaming media companies know what I watch & when
Cell phones are also a problem, mine is covered up when not in use, but it's possible somebody (other than the NSA etc) could be listening in after hacking something, since I do keep them on to get calls.

I would think that would mean below the height of the trees is for sure a no go.

i'm doing about everything ur doing, plus using the VirtualShield. It gives a false IP address at all times

    Hi,

    @jinxx4ever

Not stalking or invading privacy...just highlighting a privacy concept point....

Are you still at 81xx S. M***** School Road?

Lots more to be concerned over about privacy than committing a crime and shooting down a drone :)

    Sincerely,
    Theis
u can get that off google, doesn't give u an exact physical location to as where i am though. In fact if u could track my IP address on this laptop right now it would say i'm in Texas

While they probably don't fly at night, I have it on good authority that appraisal districts use drones to get a look at property for tax appraisal purposes.

My dad told me recently that he got a letter from his appraisal district telling him that they flew a drone over the property and observed a new permanent improvement, and his assessed property value is increasing...

They are doing that here too, along with not being shy about trespassing on your property to photograph through windows and such.
The more money the tax collectors get here the more desperate they get for increasing revenue and the more shady lengths they go to in order to do it.

Just train a big ass hawk or an eagle to engage/neutralize it.
Then start a “tactical falconry” thread.
    OR...
Build a bat house for endangered bats or owls or whatever. Doesn’t matter if any actually live there.
Then call someone who gives a shit about the endangered whatnots and tell them the drone drove them all away. Probably get a news crew involved. If so, NO MAGA hat. Remember your putting the liberals to work for you.

Bright side of shooting it you might wind up on the evening news after bailing out of jail. Guess it depends on where you live.. some places you can shoot so long as you're 50 yards from a road.

Bad idea. Not far from my dad's place there is a piece of property (a cattle pasture) that was flooded due to highway construction which diverted rain water runoff onto the property. It didn't take the Feds long to declare the pasture a "wetlands" and then protect it as the nesting place of some whatnot. The owner was fined out the nose when the "wetlands" dried up... Never EVER tell the government you have endangered whatnots living on your property.

    Or....get your own drone....

Yeah but it’s the drone operator who gets in trouble.
But if your worried, get the hawk. Or eagle if you can afford it. Eagles are cool.

Something even more interesting would be to see if you could train crows to drop a net on the drone, then pick it up once it has crashed and bring it over for a big treat. They do some amazing things for food.

You can over ride the control signal, Shoot it down or practice fish casting ability. 65# spider wire line works great as the blades can not cut it, make sure you have the reel set to free spool. Once you have it down keep it an be ready for whoever shows up.

Go for it...be sure to list all your firearms in the PX at smoking deals before you do because you will not be allowed to own them any longer.

Also e prepared to lose and face full punishment under the law. My wife is a forensic psychologist, it's far more difficult demonstrate ang for of insanity than Hollywood would have you believe. In most cases, even if you cop an insanity plea you're going to get locked up for just as long. The only difference will be that everyone in the "Hospital " is legitimately nuts.

    Hi,

But with that location it takes 1 data entry into a real time satellite feed and can see your homestead for as long as satellite is booked for.
Can see if you are cutting logs or tending bees.
Can track your vehicle in real time, from your license plate number can hack your ECM with a cell phone.

    IP masking only delays amateurs.

Everybody wants to talk about privacy but very very few want to deal with the inconveniences of truly obtaining it.
A personal address (Should be treated like SSN) can obtain so much information if you know anything about data-mining.
Can find business violations, police interactions via local newspaper, voting registrations, etc etc, list goes on and on.

Just FWIW I put the * in there on purpose.

I'll post s drone video so you can see just how invasive it isn't. The drones have fixed wide angle lens and can't zoom, they're also very loud as mine has four electric motors and can be easily heard. This was shot at 300 ft and the maximum altitude allowed by law is 400 ft AGL.

    Check it out here

Well fly your drone up over that drone to take a peek at it. Doesn't your drone have some fishing line underneath it for feelers?
