Vudoo Gun Works V-22 Rimfire Bolt Action

The 16 inch I have is great for movement in vehicles and PRS type courses. I have observed that I loose no velocity to the 20 or 24 inch barrels I have. In fact those longer ones tend to give slightly slower velocity. Don't think there is any adverse impact on accuracy. The Vudoo shoots as well as what others here see. I would go for a shorty every time.View attachment 7069618

Your correct, you will normally lose a little velocity with the longer barrels (if all things are equal). IMO that loss in velocity is one of the reasons a long barrel is more accurate. I have found the slightly slower ammo is more inherently accurate (for the most part), my opinion is it is because there is no chance of the bullet hitting the transonic point anywhere in its flight to the target. This is a theory that I have come up with over years of shooting, probably a bunch of crap but I'm running with it. Also the longer barrel has more time to properly stabilize the bullet not in a rotational sense as we normally think of bullet stabilization, but rather in a settling down from the shock of ignition. Think of it as giving it time for the harmonics of combustion process to dissipate before the bullet exits the muzzle.

Awesome looking rifle by the way!

never had a long barreled 22lr that was of quality but i always wondered barrel length is more important with lead bullets compared to jacketed/guilded.

does/has anyone seen a un-deformed un-jacketed 22lr from a short and long barrel for comparison

wonder if there is more deformation in the barrel because of the extra surface area, which may "mold" the bullets in a sense

All theories aside, I just like 22" bbls on my 40XB & V-22 repeaters - they 'look' better to me. I started with a 24" Krieger on the Stiller 2500XR I built, then decided to go with 26" Benchmark & Lilja bbls on the 40Xs. Regretted going the 26" route almost immediately, as they were just too darned heavy & awkward, especially with a 6" suppressor hanging off the muzzle. I wound up selling the 40X/Benchmark, and pulling the Lilja off the 40XB to replace it with another 22" Krieger. Also did a 22" Krieger on my 1st V-22, and ordered the Kukri with a 22" Bartlein. Since all the PRS-style CF rifles I've built for myself have 26" bbls, one might wonder what the training value of shorter bbl'd 22RF rifles is. My answer - who cares? If the shorter length of the 22RFs has any detrimental effect on using them as trainers, it's far, far, far less than the positives I get out of shooting them.

Sold my ace 20" just to get the longest barrel vudoo offer..which is 22" bartlein.
If a 22 shoots like this at 100 yards??? I wont complainView attachment 7069454
Headed to the range today to see what the vudoo likes at longer distance. Lapua pistol King gave best 100 meters result with 5 shots at .53 inch. R50 served up 5 holes at 1.3 inch at 200 meters. Eley Edge was good all rounder at both 100 and 200 always under MOA. Interestingly, hated R100 and Eley Match. Now I need to find a 300 meter range.......

What does your Vudoo look like?

I just ordered my Vudoo on May first. Paul said four weeks. Lets see how the first step goes. I hope it is nicer than my Annies
but that will be a tough order to fill.

Anyone have a side by side photo of the kukri and MTU barrels? Any benefit to getting the MTU?

J- I hear heavier rifles tend to be less hold sensitive and heavier barrels are less prone to harmonics. Is there any indication that the heavier profile is more accurate? I haven't seen anything reported. That profile isn't much thicker than what I have on my CZ, I think the CZ is 0.862" but I haven't measured it recently.

only diff is weight and balance

im doubting/almost positive the difference of kukri and MTU diameter is not affected/whip by the charge of a 22lr

bigger difference shot to shot from the same box of 50 then there would is between those 2 diameters

My wife and I's vudoo's are 22' MTU Bartliens. The weight perfectly balances with our 27" Med Palma 6XC's. I have shot both the 22" mtu and 22" Kukri and they are very close in weight and balance. I am guessing also the MTU profile is really not a true MTU.

I ordered in a 22" MTU bbl'd action for a friend's V-22 build on a Manners PRS1. My first impression when comparing it to my 22" Kukri was "Why would anyone want one this heavy?" My 40XB & first V-22 both have 22" Kriegers in Rem varmint/sendero contour, and they're weighing 13.5lbs - which is plenty heavy enough for any purpose I'll use my .22s for. I'm 67yrs old, and have a fair amount of arthritic pain in shoulders, elbows, & wrists - every time I pick up a rifle in this weight range, I wonder if I'd be happier with something weighing a couple pounds less. But when I try shooting my 8.75lb 18" Ranch V-22 off a rest, or bipod & rear bag off a bench, it's pretty obvious to me that it's easier to hold one of the heavier .22s steadier through the shot break & follow through. However, I have limits, and when we run into a stage where it's necessary to shoot unsupported offhand....well, there has to be a happy medium where weight is my friend, not my enemy.

@bjay thanks for the comparison photos. Seems like most get the Kukri. I like that you left your barrels stainless instead of coating.

Those that coat have the coated barrels, is the coating standing up to use or is it starting to show wear?

Latest set up.

Vudoo 16” kukri

Ax chassis

March 10-60 high master
changed from 10-50 kahles, March is a little brighter. But the kahles is a tank in comparison better knobs as well. Also has lit ret to help them in the woods

Dope card holder

Radius LRF, kids loved it
I put different targets out there and let the laze and dial, made the distances easy so they wouldn’t get confused with the 1/8 moa clicks etc

“Custom” brass catcher and Ammo box holder
“We” keep knocking the Ammo all over

“Custom” slanted butt (version 1)
They got used to a rear bag so quick, but it’s heavy and we are shooting off improvised deck furniture

No the little fuckers bounce all over and get caught between the deck boards.
Of course the kids dash and get stuck picking them up

Oh no... That 16 inch in the ax looks great....I've been trying to convince myself otherwise but now I see it....my vudoo is going to cost me a fortune!

Do the AI chassis have a thumb shelf or do you have to wrap your thumb around the grip?

What trigger is most common on these rifles? Two stage or single stage? I like my single stage trigger I have on my 22 now, but trying to determine which would be better for my needs. I don't compete, and most of my shooting is done from the bench.

Around here it is split pretty much 50-50.

I have Tubb 2-stage triggers in all my Remington based bolt guns.

People will again say another ford vs chevy comparison :)
It is preference, IMO since i tried both..takes it like a scope. if your going to set your skills using CCW/FFP then stick with it..
If majority of your trigger is 2 stage then id buy another 2 stage :)

I'm in a position to set the tone for future guns. I only have my 223 T3x and my 22 RF rifles. The T3x is single stage, but i also don't use that gun much at all.

Same here i still use sfp moa scope (only one rifle my f class)
Couple AR config with 2 stage.
But my precision, tactical v22 and my every week practice rifle are all set single stage ffp scopes...thats the set up i want my brain to concentrate and stick with :)...again MAJORITY

It probably is close to 50/50 in regards to triggers.
I used to use single stage & have now converted to two stage.I don’t honestly think it makes me shoot better, but I feel more comfortable with it,if that makes sense.
Why not give a two stage a try?

first started shooting military style rifles when i was a kid and most had 2 stage, or really mush then creep lol
then i got into the custom rifle game and started shooting single stage
over the last few years im reverting back to 2 stage triggers
i think it makes me focus more as i take up the first stage, kind of like "get ready"

I have the Timney Calvin elite 2 stage 8/8 on mine and just love it.

Yes intermittent with my marlin.
Actually found a box from the early 80s last week..a few extraction issues.
Feed smooth but...
They don’t shoot that well in my rifles anyway.

Anyone have a T7T trigger on their gun? How do you like it. Did vudoo install or did you have to buy it separate from the gun.

I prefer single stage triggers. I have a TriggerTech Diamond on my Vudoo and think it's fantastic.
I recommend going to a rifle match or other event and asking to try people's triggers. Then buy the one you like best.

What ring height is everyone using for the vortex viper pst 5-25? Wanna hear is any one has issues with the bolt knob hitting with that scope..

I have the 18in Kukri barrel with PST gen 2 5x25x50 and large bolt knob. I used Vortex precision rings Medium height and have no issues.

Thanks sir! I’m second guessing my self didn’t want any clearance issues...

Totally understand. I have a 20 MOA rail and have scope covers on order. With that said lows may barely work but I wanted the ability to go more MOA rail without having to buy rings twice and ensure my scope covers clear.
