Seems like several on here really appreciate “Good” bourbon’s. I do too just not to the level of some.
When you take a good bourbon and put it on a cube of ice or open it up a little with water, what about the chlorine in public water systems or iron and minerals in well water?
Would using distilled or purified water be better? Or maybe even some of the bottled spring waters.
Seems a waste to cut an expensive bourbon with bs water and alter the taste
What do y’all do? Krw

I like a couple ice cubes and a splash of filtered water, let the glass sweat a bit then drink it.

I know its not Kentucky whisky but this is a good documentary on Scottish whisky (they also suggest a splash of water to pull out all the flavors)

Bullshit, a small amount of water opens up the bourbon. Yea go drink 67% barrel proof bourbon straight.

You must drink swill.

What I drink needs no water, its like thin oil sliding across your tongue. Only thing Ive found better is quality cognac and that shit is pricey.

Not sure if Woodford, Bullett or Willet is considered expensive or not but I find that I like them straight up, on the rocks, with a splash, in an Old Fashion and in Coke. Only thing about a bottle of bourbon that I find distasteful is when it's empty.

My rant is for all those snobs who complain about other people putting ice ,water or soda in alcohol. I'm of the school that how ever you enjoy drinking it is what I'm for, I don't care what the stuff cost if I serve it and you want to put Bosco into a $300.00 glass of alcohol I'm more then happy that your enjoying it.
Its fucking alcohol and the sterno bum drinking night train gets just as fucked up as someone drinking Cristal , I know the sterno bum doesn't have access to ice when he drinks his night train so I guess he drinking it according to Hoyle.

I havent seen anyone 'complain', just remark that with good bourbon diluting it isnt necessary.

I dont care what anyone else does either, I just dont do it myself.

In my best Homer Simpson voice....Ummmmm Sterno

I don't use ice, I feel it changes the flavor profile too much for me. I prefer neat for most bourbon/whiskey/Scotch, though if it is cask strength I will add a small splash of water. The goal is to enhance the profile while also bringing total Proof down slightly or else you are only fully tasting the first few sips as high alcohol anesthetizes the taste buds.

Just got some McKenna 10 year, will see how it goes

Thats why, in an absolute sense, I prefer good cognac. Aged, at a minimum of 15 years. But good cognac starts at around $150 per bottle.

I think you should drink it the way you want.
If cutting it with a little water makes it better then do so. But no shitty tap water. Spring or water with no additives.

By Tap Water you mean the cancer well ?

This.

I feel that most Bourbons and scotches taste better to me with a small splash of bottled water. I can do tap water in town most of the time, as they only chlorinate a few weeks a year as required by EPA (waters so clean it needs nothing, but government requiring things that are unnecessary is just government).

While I can drink them straight, I get better and more distinct flavors with a slight amount of water.

I do use stainless blocks (well, they're actually .223 shaped blocks) if I want a chilled drink.

Cant find any good reason to drink other than Bulleit Rye as it seems so tasty neat or rocked that it fulfills all my alcoholic beverage needs but......

there is this thing in men that makes us leave a 90s hot Liz Hurley for a coke whore.

Is the grass possibly greener than green lable?

My local store has this shit labled "Jefferson" Im rye curious about.

Seeing as company drained most of my Bulleit and I emptied the bottle last night maybe I go in and buy my reliable and get some strange on the side.

Worst that can happen is I offer the shit to my guests and keep my Bulleit secure for personal use.

Yeah I like some ice.

Other than coffee and the occasional tea I like my other beverages cold.

Don't care about "watered down" vs "neat" I like it either way .

Perhaps I should get some real big balls like @barneybdb has except in steel.

With our temperatures down here in Australia I use those real big ice balls, made with filtered tap water because the kitchen sink has a filter on it. Does not seem to have done me any harm, me any harm, any harm, harm????

Hope youre safe from the fires old man. Give us an update.

From fire comes regrowth.

Remember back early 90s lots of big fire out in Dakotas.Wyoming way.

Media saying it was going to create dead zones with no life left.

Bike trip through burned areas of Custer State Park........

Saw a deer amongst the new growth.

That bright orange deer against the vibrant bright medium green of the new growth hurt my eyes.

Darwins way of ensure only the smart Koalas survive.

The loss of irreplaceable belongings/life sucks but fire aint all that bad in some ways.

Certainly can show a govts mismanagement of their land and cutting back of fuel sources as well is a tell of which enviro policies are over reaching and resulting in unintended (perhaps) consequences.

While the first is certainly true, I imagine those in the midst of their losses might disagree.

If side strange Rye is not to you're liking:

Two Maraschino cherries and one orange slice, muttled.

6-7 drops aromatic bitters

2oz simple syrup (or to taste)

4 oz side strange Rye

Stir, and add ice

Rim glass with orange peal and drop said peal on top of ice

Enjoy, only downside is how I feel in the morning. Never feel like shit with straight whiskey but once I add suger It fucks me up the next day.

Yeah, that will pull your ass out of ketosis quick. I don't do Keto longterm. I cut for 6-8 weeks in early spring if needed and then maintain for the shooting season.

Im coming up on two years.

Its not a diet, just my way of eating.

Wonder if I risk fucking anything up.......Im feeling great, haven't had a bad meal in two years.

I could puts wicks in my turds and use them as "standles" - "stinky candles".

Anything more potent than 100 proof "Bottled in Bond", anything cask strength for instance, benefits from a little water.

But water in anything that is 80 - 90 proof...LOL!

Just get your annual /semi annual blood work, it'll let you know if its hurting your kidneys/liver. Will let you know if that Rye is stressing them too ?

That white sugar is BAD shit.

Its in nearly everything (processed foods) because its cheap, gets you addicted/habituated, and keeps you there.

Cancer loves it.
Arthritis loves it.
Your dentist loves it.

Like religion, its poison and best left alone. Use honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar.

I use agave in my margaritas, hadn't though about using it in Old Fashions. ?

FWIW, locally sold limes suck around here. Too bitter for a good margarita but that's another thread.

I like James E Pepper 1776 for a good cheap bourbon, 4 Roses single barrel for decent bourbon and Blantons single barrel for good bourbon.

I didn't see the point of starting yet another what bourbon thread. I know there is a more recent one but it didn't come up in the search.
