The only reason you would be tossing your wallet on the ground is because somebody is threatening you with a deadly weapon or is threatening you with serious bodily harm or death due to strength / size / numbers disparity.

In that case, no thanks. If I have the chance to ensure I go home alive, I'm not taking any chances that after they get the wallet they still won't kill or seriously injure me.

And as mentioned in the post above me, There is a very good chance you may not have to actually shoot them, a lot of times seeing that you are well armed, capable and willing to defend yourself using deadly force is enough to cause them to break off the attack, BUT not always, a lot of idiots or hoodlums don't think you have the guts to pull the trigger.

You probably best watch recent news footage, they like to rob you and then try to beat you to death if they feel like it.

They are usually not required to back away from a confrontation, many states require civilians to seek an escape before using deadly force. i am hearing that after the atlanta DA's charging today, multiple precincts off atlanta have had the shifts not show up tonight, in solidarity with officers there and around the country. what i had seen was that 4 precincts are unmaned. the mayor is asking for assistance and abutting jurisdictions are not obliging. i believe jailers have been called in to work shifts. last i saw 586 calls for seevice pending.

i dont like to hear that service in a life or death situation could potentially go unanswered, but the DA and the citizens are going to reap a bit of what they sow. i hope those officers stay out through the weekend. perhaps the outcome will bring some sense back into the discussion. but likely not.

To all the people that know exactly what happened, what the cop knew and was thinking I have a suggestion. There are numerous simulators out there that can put you into a myriad of situations. Find a local PD that has one and puts civilians through it or fInd a private training facility that has one. Have them put you through a few similar scenarios and see how you react and how much you know about what actually happened or you did in the scenario. Stress is an amazing thing.
