How the BIden admin made sure texans froze to death

Ted Cruze said bye Texans. Time to go to Mexico where I keep Mexicans out of Texas.

I’m no Biden fan, but the headline in this is hyperbole. Did they try to enforce green standards? Maybe. Probably. But did they want Texans to die to the point they enforced green standards to ensure it?I don’t think this is accurate.

FFS, even if this were true everyone should have had enough self reliance to get ready and meet it head on. There was damn near a week of warning even if you didn’t have preps. Then Texans could have helped Texans for what, 7 days, while it blew through? Blaming Biden for Texans’ own lack of preparation isn’t correct. We need to have our own house in order and take responsibility for our own lack of action. We are Texas, not a liberal, dependent shithole. Except for the transplants who have no sense of responsibility. The elderly rests upon the rest of us to take care of as well.

Obviously not. Get food, water. What else? You are in Colorado, surely you prepare for winter and cold fronts with Chinook winds. If not, I can help you out. I learned real f’n quick at 9k feet.

Read what I said, help each other out. This isn’t a prep for yourself and fuck everyone else thing. It’s do what you can and contribute where you can, accept help where you need it. How is this misunderstood? How is self reliance that extends mutually into the immediate community such a foreign concept these days?

7 days to what, put insulation in their house, build fire places, and cut firewood?
Turn off and blow out unnecessary water lines. Blue-board shelters around stuff that needs to work. Leave the water dribble out of a faucet since moving water doesn't freeze.

And unhook the damn hoses from the hose bibs so they don't freeze.

Propane tanks and heaters, fuel for generators, etc.

You know, all the stuff us northerners have prepared all year long normally.

I believe this situation is much more complex than this article insinuates. There's a lot of blame to be passed around, both in Texas and on the Federal level. It's something that should have never happened, but it has. Now is not the time to throw blame around, now is the time to get the infrastructure back up.

I did the prep thing; insulated pipes, wrapped faucets, went back and let them run, not just drip both inside and out, kept heaters going and cupboard doors open under the sinks, put a heat lamp on at the well tank, etc. and the pipe coming from the water tank with a heat lamp 14" away from it under a tarp still froze as soon as the temp fell to12*.
Then a few minutes later the internet went down due to towers icing over then the power went out.

The power came on and off every few hours, we used the microwave to eat, no stovetop cooking taking longer than frying bacon and eggs.

Temps rose and I went to the store where the shelves were bare and a sign on the empty bread isle saying '1 loaf per family', just like in 3rd world communist countries. We came home to see water gushing from the pressure tank at the well where the frozen pipe broke. Plumber said get on the list, it will be at least a week, maybe longer to fix it. Tomorrow Ill be pulling the water tank and try and fix it myself.

Millions of people, where they almost never even use heaters, on 7 days notice, who have mostly probably never seen a freeze, and have no idea how to prepare for it, should have been abe to round up all the recourses they needed for this in 7 days. I bet there aren't enough fuel powered heaters in that part of TX to cover 1% of the population.

Generators, heaters, food, and fuel. Ok now the store shelves are empty and there are still millions left unprepared. What next?

What we saw is more than likely a once in a lifetime event. The people who just learned these lessons, will probably never have to apply them again. Their children will likely be ill prepared when this happens again in another 50-100 years or so. There will probably be a new found market for space heaters in places like Galveston for a few years, after a decade of never getting used, they will be relegated to trash heaps, and stuffed in attics and basements.

People had their pipes freeze all over CO too.

"Prepare for winter storms." If by that you mean laugh at the people who clear out the store shelves every time it starts snowing, or power goes out for a day. Then, yes I do. Its mostly the TX and CA transplants that are too afraid to drive on the ice. The way they drive its no wonder, I am scared for them to drive on the ice too.

As far as the finger pointing goes, had we not dealt with massive election fraud this year. Every main stream news network would be telling us this was the presidents fault. Maybe this outlet didn't get the memo that we aren't blaming anything and everything on the president right now. Please forgive me, for not shedding a tear about them picking on poor ole Joe.

Fuck Politicians most of them are where they’re at for their own personal gain and when shit hits the fan no one takes responsibility. Fuck journalists to who write what ever they have to just to advance in their career, the truth and accurate statements is the last item on their agenda. Green energy (windmills) only accounts for 12% of Texas’s energy and it’s hardly “Green Energy” the amount resources and petroleum it takes to build and maintain them will never be recouped. Even my buddies who work on them say it’s bullshit and it would never survive without government subsidies. Not to mention all the habitat that gets destroyed from the giant blade grave yards they dig. I feel for all fellow Texas who suffered through this but I agree people need to be more self reliant. If your depending on a grocery store, electricity, city water, or the government to survive then your fucked from the get go. Those things are only there when it’s going good. I had no electricity or water for 5 days solid no on and off power like some had and I made it just fine with temps at -15 at the coldest. Drained my water lines and when things did heat back up my water lines were fine. I had plenty of dry food but had I not I would have cooked venison over the fire outside. I live in the Stix so I’m sure it’s more difficult for people that live in cities and that’s the reason I would never live in or near a city. I may just be a cold hearted asshole but I believe it’s survival of the fittest with all other species on the planet, what puts humans above that? Is it the fact they we are on FB 6hours a day looking at people posting pictures of what they are having for lunch? Now don’t get me wrong if there were people around me that needed it of course I would help them and let them survive off my resources and preparedness. I’m not a Biden fan either I’m just saying when shit really hits the fan one day you will only be able to depend on yourself and your own knowledge and skills not shit show organizations like ERCOT or one corrupt politician that will just blame another corrupt politician. Some Americans don’t realize how good we have it most of the time. We need to man the fuck up and be more self dependent.

We lost power last Sunday evening and just got it back yesterday for about 90 minutes then it went out again. Finally came back on about 2:00 pm. Was kind of puzzling as most houses a few streets over had power. Never did get to talk to a real person, all Oncor had was their recording.

You are most likely correct, but that said, Hit pieces like this was all President Trump had to deal with on an everyday basis. If he fed the US poor the left would spin it that he was neglecting world events. If he worked on world events, the left would spin it that he doesn't care about the the poor people dying here in the streets right here in this country. No sir, i will not take the high road. Those days should be behind all conservatives. The left now gets the same treatment they saw fit to dish out on a daily basis. As I said earlier, they deserve the same amount of respect as they gave......Zilch

I have some empathy and feel for those that got hit hard by unusual weather event for their AO, two things- the nations power grid is old weak and vulnerable, plenary have sounded the warning on that.
Two a quick Google Fu search showed me articles about “Texas blizzards” and “deep freezes seeming to become more frequent from the late 1950’s up through today- with a couple large events in the 90’s. Loosing power, pipes freezing that’s not any individuals fault, freezing to death in ones own home- a few minutes of cardio and a couple of blankets????
My AO had its most costly storm in state history about 4 years ago come March- straight line wind event- basically a tornado state wide for a sustained few hours. And the event brought February cold back down from Canada . Few million out of power, fired up the wood stoves - ect. Guess it just comes with the territory here in MI we can have 100+ days and 3 years ago had two entire days of -39.9 in January. So be ready for either extreme.
Okay lost the point of my rant, to sum up- hope the best for the Texans , the power grid along with most other infrastructure is decaying rapidly. And not being a native Texan it looks like cold snaps and even snow events are not unheard of, several hundred of them since late 50’s now it’s up to everyone to not get caught with pants down on the next one.

I am in west Texas we get cold days and ice, most people drive like shit when it’s dry. When you add any kind of moisture that only makes it worse. I lost power and it stayed out for 4 days kept a fire going in the stove, had the welder going to run heaters in the well house. I still had some pipes break, shit happens. I keep glue and cleaner and connections for repairs. I did order a standby generator, have been talking about one for years. I lose power in the summer a hell of a lot more when it’s hot than when it’s cold. It all boils down to being prepared and helping those that can’t help themselves, not the 20 something fuck sticks but those that truly need help.

I think lariat meant...people didn't learn the lessons from the "Three little pigs" fable.

Being prepared for shit like this should not be a 7 days before event. Having some candles and a propane heater stored doesn't take any space. A 30K BTU Mr. Heater comes in a box of approximately 14 X 6 X 10 inches and it's not stupid to have more than one 20 lb propane cylinder. Food... If you don't keep more than a couple meals on hand. I guess you will rethink that in the next few days. Water.... You should be filtering the bullshit the government is supplying to your house to begin with. Storing a few cases of bottles takes no space. A 50 gal food safe plastic barrel, for water storage, can get you through a couple weeks. LED lantern with 300 lumens run on 3 AA batteries and cost $6. Everything you need for basic survival can fit in a closet in your garage.
But I guess it's easier to blame someone else for your lack of personal responsibility.
Thousands of dollars every year to insure a vehicle but not have $400 of insurance in a closet? But but but we don't ever have freezing like this!! Hello? There's plenty of other natural disasters that can cause similar shit and you're ready to survive without relying on dot gov.

Arctic blasts get down to the coast more often than people think. It snows on the Alamo couple times a decade. And we get ice storms that coat the roads almost every year. 2014 we had the big blizzard come through the Metroplex that gave cobblestone ice on the roads. It happens.

Tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, winter storms, 90 days over 95 degrees, droughts. We get it all. None of it is a surprise. The big thing for us all to do is learn from it so that the effects in our personal lives are minimized. Not doing that is the biggest shortfall that leads to cascading failures.

TX is purple. No doubt this drive from a lot of southern states (TX, AL, NC, FL) to recruit from KALI and DC is going to destroy what made these states great. Already done so in NC, AL is becoming more blue each and every day. TX is just about blue, I know all you Texans don't want to admit it; but it's true.

Now, here's the reason I replied to your response: "this is hyperbole." First, what is not hyperbole in the news today? So what if it is "hyperbole." .Did I not read AOC and those idiots want to bring Trump up on criminal charges of murder due to cutting the environmental regulations and other things? If Trump had done something they would not call it the Biden administration they would directly name TRUMP.

And yes, I lived near Eglin AFB, and in the 2 years I was there I saw 18 degrees a few times on my thermometer. This isn't that unusual. People have already forgotten the 2000 snow season in the South. It'd be against the narrative to bring up historical fact.

To educate folks on how they do it in Michigan?
I remember living in WNC and all the really helpful folks from "up there" who were quick to point out, "the way we do things up in(fill in blank)"
I often wonder how I made it without their help.

I'd say move on down here and show us how its done....but I've had enough of that already.

You are correct regarding the purple.

You are also correct that everything is hyperbole. The gullible on both sides buy into it.

So “up here we’d keep at least a camo stove and a few cases of water in case of ice snow hurricane tornado wildfire or high wind or flood- all of which happen “up here “ . Except hurricanes
camp stove- 10-30, 3 cases water- 8-$15. Heat food and water- priceless!
But that’s for “up here” guess weather events don’t happen everywhere

Well said! Sorting through it all, natural gas not flowing seems to have contributed as much to the failure as anything, power plants were starved. Not exactly what we want to hear.
Maybe I am wrong, but on a national scale, until this happens to NYC or DC, the awareness fades. A couple of winters ago, thanks to no new pipelining in the NE, NYC paid 65 times more for NG than if it would have been piped from in state or PA. This wont be the last event.

A tarp isn't insulation.

I know it's snowed in Texas before. If you can't be prepared for the weather that happens every 10-20 years, you may want to rethink your survival plans.

You know what was entertaining in Williston? All the Texas boys that came up with the ideas on how to fight the weather. They were educated on what actually worked, but were too stubborn to listen until it cost them money.

You Texans sure have an attitude on taking advice from those of us that deal with those temps for months at a time every single year. You'd rather tell us we're wrong and Texas is special, when you should be learning and applying what's being shared.

Don't come to Texas when your people are chasing garbage trucks for something to eat. Last thing we need is more foreign know-it-all trash coming here telling us we're doing things wrong and you did it differently in whatever shithole state you ruined.

On arfcom there is more than one thread of Texans asking yankees for advice on what to expect and how to deal with it. Thats where I got my 'advice' on how to prevent frozen pipes.

Sure its possible.

The request to increase capacity and output was denied?

Anywho, yes people should be prepared, no argument. However, like many "discussions" with a certain poster...more than one thing can be true, or contributing factors.

Should people be prepared? Yes, having at minimum a week of supplies is ones duty, imo anyways.

However, if the energy capacity WAS available then why not approve for emergency timeframe use? Sounds fishy and politically motivated....nah.

Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you've fed him for a lifetime.

Learn by other's mistake, take the knowledge of others. Use it or not, but at least consider it. This incident with the cold and Texas was more than just Texas. The entire south experienced extreme cold. I think I'd take any advice from someone who has experience in the cold. Just like I'd take advice from those living in Tornado Alley if my area starting having lots of tornados.

I just hope that those in the south have learned from this an at least consider taking measures in case there is another incident like this in their lifetime.

Isn't that what prepping is all about? Prepping for an unknown incident.

Whoa cowboy....you sure are painting Texans with a broad brush. Why the hate with such a small sample? All of us didn't freeze last week.

It was cold though! Unusually so...made calving and lambing a challenge to say the least. Thankfully we got through without incident. Others weren't so fortunate.

The whole Texas thing is really odd to me.

For one it blows the idea of alternate energy out of the water, it’s like a fat kid who can’t touch his toes wanting to know how to slam dunk, if some snow takes out a major state like Texas, I laugh at the idea of reinventing energy when we can’t even get what we have now to work.
With all the power and money Texas has, having rolling black outs like a third world country..if I lived in Texas I’d be asking for a refund for all the taxes I paid.

Just do a little research, read just not what you normally want to. Natural gas wells froze, once storage capacities were emptied, those plants could not run at capacity if at all. Coal fired plants were down for scheduled maintenance which is standard procedure for low peak times, which winter normally is there.
It may have highlighted the short comings of renewable energy, but shit came together at once for disaster.
I did read where they decided where to cut power and to whom, if true, that will surface, not good if true.
