6mm BR

I have 2 Brs and am only shooting 105 Hybrids and both are great at 30grs of Varget.

I started at I think 28grs of Varget and worked up. I think i did .5gr jumps to 29 and the dropped it down to smaller increments.

Same load with a 28 inch Bartlein.

A .308 Winchester Small base die works great as a Ring Die ,no worries about setting shoulder back.

I have been using a Wilson full length die they refer to as 6BR Match (FLD-6BRM). It is smaller at the .200 line. Makes brass fit my guns well.

I am not sure if it's the same Wilson die you speak of ,but my Wilson FL bushing die does the same . You can feel it and see it ,no clickers using that die .

Anyone worried about small base dies for 6BR to bring brass back into spec when switching chambers Redding makes a 6BR small base die (74317). It works like a charm. In stock too.

Thanks for the heads up , I had no idea they made them . In stock too, think I will snag one while I can.

Hi, I just ordered a new barrel in 6mmBR. I am still struggling with the choice of powder. VV N140, VV N150, VVN540.
VV in its reloading app provides reloading data on those 3 powders. I plan to shoot at 300m 90gr and 105gr bullets. Which powder would you recommend (I stick to VV, so don't say Varget).

This may not help you at all, but with Berger 105s I loved N140. Eric Cortina (youtube famous F-Class shooter) uses N150.

I would try 540 , works very well with those bullet weights .

any of those will work id start with the 140 and 150 first.

@47guy this was my primary choice. I am focusing on Lapua Scenars and Bergers, I think 150 VV would be my first choice because it should give me little bit more speed than N140.

Honestly, any of those three will work, so whatever you have on hand or can get easily. I used N140 before moving to 8208, and I feel like I left a little speed on the table, although accuracy was good. I'd probably try 150 next time.

Every weekend I shoot I am more impressed by this cartridge. It was so easy to work up a load for and is so consistent.

30 gr Varget
Berger 105 Hybrid
Lapua brass
cci 450
20 thou off lands

I'm going to order another barrel from Bugholes Monday b/c the round count on this one is growing fast b/c my 6.5 creed and valkyrie stay at home now.

Due to the current powder crisis I have been forced to seek other powders as my first 6br barrel is on the way. I snagged a 8lb jug of RL16, hopefully I can get it to work. Anyone else have any success with that powder? I haven't been able to find a whole lot of info.

Probably won’t be able to get enough into a case to cause any pressure issues, so there’s that.

If anything I would try to find a slower powder than a faster one. That way you will get more velocity and not blow your face off.

Does anyone has a recommendation for seating depth and charge weight for VVN150 and 105 hybrids...?

I use N540 and 10 thousands off lands with the berger hybrids. 1/4 moa

Just found this thread. Great info. Waiting for mine to come in. It has about 60 rounds through it. Buying it used with a Schneider barrel. Have dies and bullets on the way along with a couple hundred rounds of Remington 100 grain ammo coming with the rifle. Only issue is no BR or 450 primers. Will start my loads with some CCI400s. I'm sure I'll be back here with questions.

Goal is to get it threaded and set for a can. Plan on using it for a long range varmint and 200 yard deer rifle.

I have 300rds loaded up. Hopefully my seizures stop so i can go shoot them.

It's a boring cartridge!

I did a ladder test with 107SMK because I couldn't find the other bullets I was using before. Picked the 0 vertical at 360Y for the two that hit closest together, loaded that, then a week later shot 3 rounds off to get the velocity, 3 rounds 1 fps ES, lol.

The two previous times I tested velocity with my other load was 5 fps ES for 5 shots, on different occasions of course.

Such a go getter little round! Not great in the wind past 800Y but not bad either.

I have some 105 Hybrids and 107smk loaded up to test here in a few years in the wind. Calling for 18mph winds this afternoon. Gonna see how they shoot in the wind at 700 but so far Im loving these 107smk. The 105Hybrids just plain shoot as well....

I have a bunch of 108gr ELM match loaded up also. Used my same load as the hybrids. Want to see how they shoot for me.

I did load workup with the 107smk in this new barrel... Loaded up the 105hybrids with the same load as my 107smk final load. Ive shot all these bullets extensively in my previous 6BR barrels and bottom line, they all shoot great. The joys of 6BR. haha

I haven't ever used a drop tube and have zero issues with case capacity with Peterson 6BR brass.

Doc
Thats good to hear. I bought lapua brass, based on what I have read there is a little more room with lapua over Peterson. Can't wait to get rolling on this. Just waiting for Graf's to get their things in order and ship my dies.

What are you guys seeing for oal running 105 hybrid? Just got my new barrel in and it seems really short. I am touching the lands at 2.250”

Graf's took almost 3 weeks to get me the new brass I just ordered from them. They are really behind. 18 working day to process orders and ship out.

That is a short ass chamber......did they use a Remington 6BR clambering due to it using lighter bullets. That's crazy short.

Doc
Not even sure at the moment. I’ll call tomorrow and figure out whats up.

Are you getting marks on your rounds when you chamber them

Nah, not at all. I loaded a dummy at 1.760 cbto and it chambers just fine. Im using the comparator. I’ll take my bolt apart tomorrow and get a more accurate reading.

All comparators are different. That’s part of what makes them comparators and not absolute measuring tools. Take differences between CBTO measurements between different comparators with a grain of salt. As in this case, COAL length between two shooter’s loaded rounds might tell more of the story. The variations may be smaller.

Didnt even think of that. Good catch.

Well, just threw my hornady oal tool in the trash. Pulled the bolt, firing mech and took out the ejector. Loaded a round long and kept throwing it in until it fell with zero effort.

1.795” cbto
2.392” oal

105 hybrid, lapua brass with .105 freebore.

This is the only way I’m doing it from here on out. Lesson learned.

I'm new to this whole 6BR(A) game. I tore my bolt down and got my land point. Anyone have a decent fire form load for IMR 4895 in Lapua brass with 105 hybrids?

Seems H4895 is more popular, but I have a keg of IMR and if it works I'd love to burn it up. If not, I'm hoping I can at least fireform with it.
