When you guys change calibers do you mark anywhere on the rifle and barrel? It just seems like with the quick change nature of the barrel and the fact that you are meant to tighten it down to "hand tight" you'll end up getting the barrel inserted into the receiver at different depths each time.

I know diffrent calibers will have diffrent zeroes, I'm more asking in terms of switching back to the same barrel and keeping the same zero as before.
No, it’s consistent, especially if you put a wrench on the end and snug it up good. RTZ are the same each time between barrels.

We had plans to do some filming and get some photos... The fog dropped visibility to about 50-100 meters. 🤦‍♂️

Nothing really special, just the MC (300 PRC) out for a re-zero as there was a 100/300/600yd day at Quantico. Easy peasy, three shots to the left, three to the right and three where they need to be in the middle allowed me to set windage. I then adjusted elevation (not shown) and am ready for a 1,000yd day tomorrow.

I knew that rifle looked familiar! The 3m rotor tape on the ejection port was a dead give away.

Seems you AI guys might need some of this.

If it costs too much, talk to The German.... ;)

Did a little 300 yard shooting yesterday. They close the range @ 5pm and you move back to the 300 yard benches and shoot over the parking lot. For my 200 yard gang. :)

Some factory Norma 300 grain HPBT. 3 shot groups are great, I should stop when I'm ahead. :)

How long you guys waiting for barrels? I ordered in December and haven't heard shit on where the fuck it's at.

Bartlein gain twist if that makes a difference on lead times.

I don’t know. I ordered my kreiger direct from them and had it in like 3 days? In March or April I don’t remember. But it was an in stock blank they had 😂😂😂

I also plan on just ordering my next bartlein from SPR since they usually have a good stock available

Yesterday was a pretty big day for me. I won my first trophy after shooting for 3 years. I know some will eye roll, but the top 3 in Tac were relatively tight. First place beat me by 6 points, second place beat me by 1 point. View attachment 7666154
Won my first ever blue ribbon showing walking horses. The competition was really light that night and I felt somewhat embarrassed.

A mentor explained to me that wins of any kind are extremely hard to come by. As he reminded me and I am reminding you. Never, ever make the slightest light of your wins. (Yes, third place is a win) This is a remarkable accomplishment that you should be proud of and cherish.

It came through hard work and effort.

It's weird, I've come in 2nd place in Tac twice in a row before this, 1st place in non-Pro, but a stupid 2nd place looser trophy means more to me. :ROFLMAO:

Gain twist has nothing to do with it effecting lead times.

I did post a thread about all of this stuff.

As plain as simple as I can put it here...the short version!

I've never seen anything like this in over 20 years of doing barrels. The demand is just nuts! The whole gun industry is upside down. I know you all have seen it some where and some how it has effected you.

I also don't see things getting any better anytime soon. I'm saying it's going to be like this at least until the next election. Everyone I talk to in the industry from steel suppliers to bullet and ammo makers, gun builders etc...

Last month I actually started feeling this is the new normal for all of us and believe me...I don't like it one bit.

Best I can say to do is to plan ahead the best you can for your builds, shooting etc.. if you go thru 2 barrels a year....make sure you have 3 to start the year off with and don't wait till the end of the year to order 2 more. If you shoot 4k rounds a year....make sure you have 8k primers to start the year off with etc.. etc... etc...

Later, Frank

AT-X 6.5CM with AXSR rear end.
Have only fired 52 rounds through it so far, starting to appreciate the new front end... It settles really well, being so low. The rail mounted bags are really handy now, being so close to the mag well.
Big match this weekend, looking forward to getting some quality time behind it.

Any opinions on the ability to track the 6.5CM out to the target versus say, a 6mm?

I really couldn't tell you yet to be honest, we have had really bad fog the last few weeks / months out where I shoot normally (vis down to 30-50 meters, can't even zero properly until well the afternoon)... We picked the rifle up last week and haven't had the opportunity to shoot it at any distance yet, sorry.

Been shooting 1" stickies on a 30m indoor range to try and at least get some time on it. Fired 36 rounds of factory 140gr ELDM 6.5cm today, missed one round which was my fault completely, it is not a rifle that is difficult to shoot well.

- The trigger is excellent.
- The ergo grip is a big step forward (something I already did to my AXSA, so it's not NEW to me but it will be to most AX shooters).
- The back end is for the most part, is the same shape so no change really there.
- We don't have the NV bridge so that's something I'm fighting with a bit, on the AX, I normally wrap my hand over the tube, with the AT-X in this configuration I can't (don't want to touch the barrel) so I did mount one of the longer pic rails down the left side to act as a bit of a shelf for downward pressure, it's OK but a NV bridge would be optimal.
- It's actually quite hefty, there is a fair bit of weight in it. The factory barrel is quite solid. Haven't got a total weight yet.
- We didn't get weight kits either so that would positively effect things more also no doubt.

From the shooting I have done though, being lower is of course very beneficial. NOT having the hand guard in the way has made a big difference... You can really push the rifle forward to where it wants to be. On the barricade bag, it now sits where it's happy, not fighting with the hand guard area anymore.

I think you will want a bipod (and tripod) with an ARCA / QD mounting plate so you can slide it up and down and rip it off when not required, that'll be important. I would avoid mounting any short picatinny rails on the bottom edge and running a bipod on that, you will increase the height and make the contact point much narrower. It is good to have the wide flat Arca bottom edge on a bag (something most of us are accustomed to now anyway). The weight kits when stacked would be great also, looking forward to that.

Looks like we're going back into lock down tomorrow night (3rd time this year... Our local Government froth over it) so we'll see if this national match goes ahead. :cautious:

I have also been getting asked the question about 6 times a month now...are you guys o.k. on steel? The answer is yes. We have plenty of steel and plenty already scheduled well into later next year. I did get an update from the mill yesterday though and what they are telling any new customers that are looking for steel... a 1 year delivery! That is way up from the normal lead time of 5 months for a mill run.

Raw materials are getting tougher to get/source right now due to demands and demands are not just in the gun industry. Automotive, ATV/UTV industry and general manufacturing etc...I was also told that some of the mills are also being limited to gas supply to run the furnaces etc...Why I don't know.

Material surcharges are also up just the last two months in a row.

Like I said, We are all in this one way or another and if any of us are thinking this is going to get better anytime soon....then you/we are not dealing in reality.

Later, Frank

Yes.... No barrel..... At the Smith getting threaded for a suppressor mount/brake.

But. She got a new optic! Compliments of "The Durk" she is now wearing a Kahles K624i gen 3 with SKMR2 reticle, nestled in a Spuhr SP-4003b, and protected with Tennaebrex covers. Ordering scope chaps, and some dumb patch to rock on it. My rifle is becoming quite formidable!

16.5” 6.5cm PVA finally showed up. Now I just need to find some paint and a good primer. This thing is instantly my new favorite rifle and fits in the old sneaky bag like it was made for it. 15 lbs with bipod and suppressor. Thinking about taking off the RRS plate and installing the factory skin again to save more weight since the Victor co rail has the RRS dovetail. With factory front of Mag well skin and no bipod it would come it at 13.8-13.9 lbs with no mag.857F8F3F-6BAC-44AE-BEF4-3F6588333497.jpeg98743EE1-C08C-40EF-A3A7-E17286751131.jpeg883BF320-8DCD-4487-8C8E-3A0866B80FB9.jpegC1281909-94D0-4045-84E2-98F435219298.jpegA9FD6032-02A8-4633-8C0F-2FD3B8F4011D.jpeg
