That's kind of what I think.
What I have observed, is that many have a poor concept of ballistics. On one episode of Northwoods Law, the Maine game warden told a hunter there was a problem with him shooting a deer at close range with a bow because the arrow didn't have time to accelerate...
For seating depth, with most bullets I try to get as close to the lands as possible and call it good. With monometal bullets such as Barnes bullets, I let them jump a bit.
As far as shots in a group goes, I use 3 shot groups. Understand that a 3 shot group is much less statistically...
I have used Lee Collet Dies and I have a Redding T-7 press. In addition, thus far I've never ruined a Lee Collet Die. You have to apply firm but not a huge amount of pressure. I've never measured the pressure I apply but I doubt it's more than 5 or 10 lbs.
Several comments on the Lee...
I appreciate all the information. I have books coming as well that will help.
Yea, I know it would be just as cheap to go out and buy one but I don't wanna.
I can weld (will need to get a welder though) and can finish the metal. I've even done riveting before.
Of course the question is, should I get an arc welder, a gas welder, a tig welder or a mig welder.
I've already done an AR-15 build starting with a stripped lower and I've heard building an AK-47 is about as easy. I guess I was inspired by the guy who built an AK-47 starting out with a shovel.
You don't mention what "big stuff" but since they won't let him use a 338 Lapua Magnum, I would presume it's dangerous game. You don't mention a budget but since he's worried about ammo cost, I would presume he doesn't want to spend a lot. The range at which shot will be taken is also a factor...
I have been using QD mounts for a long time:
1. Blaser QD mounts are on zero every time the scope is detached and reattached; that is even with a 375 H&H Magnum barrel.
2. With Warne bases/QD mounts, there was no loss of zero in detaching/remounting a scope with one exception. That...
I heartily endorse Pelican cases.
I cut the foam in the above photo with an electric steak knife. It's not as neat as it would have been with die cut foam but you're never going to get custom cutouts for firearms when a manufacturer is only going to be able to sell a few of them. I got 2...
I spoke with a game warden about shooting crows that were a nuisance. Shooting animals that are a nuisance is not considered hunting. For some nuisance animals in Ohio like deer, a nuisance permit is required to take it out of season. For others like raccoons, opposums, skunks and groundhogs...
