I use a Geissele mount on my NRA/CMP service rifle nowadays, but I did use a Keystone Accuracy mount prior. Sadly out of production, it was a rock solid mount. I'm pretty sure that Pacific Tool and Gauge sourced them for Keystone. It set the optic well forward for plenty of eye relief and the...
I've been shooting AR-COMP for my NRA/CMP service rifle loads for years now. I'm getting much better velocities over Varget with lower charge weights. My load is 22.4gr under a Nosler 77gr CC with a CCI450 primer. Out of a 20" 1-7 twist I'm averaging 2735fps. Since I'm shooting service rifle...
We ended up going with a Savage Rascal for our son (which he has since outgrown). It operates exactly like an adult-sized bolt action rifle, just more scaled down. The cricket just felt "clunky" when we looked at them. Now... to find a chassis stock for a Rascal and you'd be in business!
.223 WSSM would definitely be a contender, but I've never had much experience running those stubby WSSM cartridges in an AR upper. How about .22 Nosler?
Another good load for short range work is a Speer 125gr TNT over 47-48gr IMR 4895. Light and accurate out to 200 yards. Very good load for offhand or rapid fire
The serial number puts the rifle in the August/September 1943 date range. The SA 52 behind the rear sight indicates that it was rebuilt at Springfield Armory in 1952. I agree that the stock looks to be a replacement. All you need now is a good 1907 sling and start shooting that rifle from...
I switched over from Varget to AR-COMP for all my NRA/CMP highpower rifle ammo last year. Yes, I will agree that AR-COMP is a dirtier powder and it does require more frequent cleaning. However, I don't consider it a show-stopper. The results that I'm getting with this powder more than offsets...
I'm running the following out of my NRA/CMP AR15 service rifle with a 20" 1-7.7 CBI barrel. Sierra 77gr MK 22.4gr AR-COMP CCI450 primer LC brass 2.26" OAL ~2680 fps across the chrono Berger 82gr MT 23.3gr AR-COMP CCI450 primer LC brass 2.50" OAL ~2700 fps across the chrono...
I moved over to AR-COMP from Varget last year and predominately shoot NRA/CMP highpower. I've been very pleased with the results but will say that AR-COMP is a *dirty* powder. Here's the loads that I'm shooting through my A2 model, 20" 1-7.7 twist Sierra 77gr MK 22.4gr AR-COMP CCI450...
Yup... I got one from the CMP a long time ago when they sold them with sights. I predominately use mine as a poor-man's rimfire bench gun nowadays. Mine has a Vianni scope mount and sports a BSA 8-32x44 scope. The gun shoots pretty well but that stock leaves a lot to be desired. I've...
Yeah, AR-COMP is pretty dirty. I can't let the rifle go long in between cleanings as I could with Varget. I'm running 22.4gr AR-COMP/Sierra 77gr/CCI450/LC brass. That load chrono's around 2650 fps and I was able to get .8MOA group @ 200yd through my tired ol' Criterion rifle barrel. I'd...
Nice group sizes. Did you shoot those groups @ 200 yards... with irons or optics? Is this going to be an across-the-course gun lte82 (I see your NRA HP Master signature). If so, then any load that shoots 1MOA (or less) will more than suffice to shoot a clean score. I used Varget for a number...
