If your can locks up adequately to make you happy then I would not waste $1000. Would you get into 6.5 Grendel in 2024?
Same thought process…already had a 260 rem with projectiles and I needed something better than my 300BO for deer at extended distance (2 to 400 yds). 129ABLR is very effective on deer. Yes not that fast out of a grendel, but great BC and expands down to 1300’/s. If I wanted to go 1000 yds...- bmash

Loaded some 6.5 Grendel. 7 yr old grandson helped. Brass was prepped and primed. He pushed the button on the auto trickler, put powder in case, case in shell holder, bullet in, and pulled press handle. He learned a lot! (E.g. Somebody up there likes me
I did it once with 45 long colt. Not a big deal…but what worried me the most was where did I put the powder that should have been in that one?! I weighed all the rest and trashed any potential double charges!- bmash

6.5 Grendel
I killed 3 deer and a coyote with the Cavity Back 105gr MKZ. it performed well. I found one bullet and it opened great. (As you are experiencing I couldn’t find the bullets I would normally have used.) I may try the 129 ablr this year as well. It opens down to 1300’/s as I remember.- bmash

Hire a coach! A good coach can save you a lot of time and probably money with the price of shells. They can watch and a good one can see where the pattern goes. Rife Scope Recommendation (Vortex, Nightforce or Kahles)
Regarding prairie dogs, most of my shoots are 200 to 450 yards and I like to go when pups are just out (I.e. Small.). 10 power and under will be a real disadvantage. I would suggest ar least 15 and prefer upper end of 22 or more. (Of course once you go you will decide to get 2 or 3 dedicated...- bmash

Reloading side hustle
I have allowed friends and relatives to use my equipment, but I don't load for them. Liability is an issue imho. I know what to do when a round mis functions, but I doubt many have a clue. For example, i have missed powder in a revolver load - bullet went in the barrel - I knew STOP! don’t shoot...- bmash
