    Remington 700 Long Range

I have the new edition with H&S stock in 30-06. 06 because I’m already invested in 30-06 for my Garand. Just started a break in procedure. A low powered hand load using 43gn 4895 and a 155hpbt did produce a 1 1/4” group at 200yds. The gun does show promise .

    Aguila SSS 60 grain rounds

I tried this ammo in a RRA 24” 1/8” twist Varmint AR with a military conversion. Don’t remember details but at 25yds accuracy was too poor for meaningful practice and at a indoor range the acid smoke coming out of the chamber was burning my eyes. I’ll assume the smoke was because of the short...

    F T/R Competition 308 Barrel length question for 600yds

Thank you for opinions. The reason I'm asking these questions is I'd like to stick to 24" barrels because that makes the traveling a bit easier than the 26-28". Yardage is 600 as stated. Most rifles I'm looking at are 1/12". 1/10" are harder to find in my price range. I have experience...

    F T/R Competition 308 Barrel length question for 600yds

I would be shooting F/TR class. Beside the 24” VS 28” thing I was interested in if the 155s were competitive against the 185s at 600yds. One of the purpose built rifles I’m looking at buying has a 1/13 twist barrel. That might do best with 155s.

    F T/R Competition 308 Barrel length question for 600yds

At the max 600yd range I can shoot at. In 308 is a 24” barrel a deficit over a 26-27” barrel? If I have the proper twist barrel are 155gn bullets competitive against 175-185 gun bullets? I

M1a socom or converted .308 garand

308 Garand. I used CMP version to take a 160lb hog this year. For the one youre "test driving" I'd add a light synthetic stock and youre even lighter. Accurate, 100% reliable, powerful. You stated the advantages, I agree. I dont think the SOCOM will handle any hotter loads than the Garand. I...

AR 15 for long range precision

Rock River Arms Varmint. My rifle easily beats its 3/4” guarantee. Very good 2 stage trigger. I’d start with that. Modify/adjust as necessary.

F T/R Competition Opinions on F-T/R low budget stock

Thanks for responces. The equipment mentioned is already owned. I sold the Macmillan position kevlar stock to help finance the build and bought anoher gun with the money. OOPs. With that stock off the bench the rifle shot groups at 200 yds that impressed me with Federal Gold 175 gn ammo. I will...

F T/R Competition Opinions on F-T/R low budget stock

Looking for your opinions for a low budget stock for the F-T/R rifle (my first) I'm building. Rifle is a Remington 40XC 308 1-10" 24" barrel. no stock at present. Sinclair bipod, Sightron 8-32x56 scope. Max yardage is 600 yds in my area. I'm looking at this HS Tactical stock. $380 on line price...

Anyone using the .224 62gn HPBT Midsouth sells from Hornady?

Would like to try them for my Remington 700 Milspec (1/9") and cousins 700VLS (1/12"). Our max yardage is 300

    1997 Remington 700 BDL Varmint Special .243

About your fliers. I'm not sure what you mean about "timing the trigger" but allow me to make 2 points. I had a similar 700 that had fliers like yours. A good bedding job brought the groups well bellow MOA. Yes the old style triggers can me made great.

Rifle Scopes What about those Unertle type (Lyman, Redfield) external adjustment scopes?

I see some on the range and a few on auction sites for premium money. Is there still a advantage to these scopes today? I shoot from .22lr at 25yd to 30-06@300. I've been happy with the Leupolds I have but just thinking about them.

    Accuracy Systems Rem 7400

I had a 7400 in 308 set up for a High Power match with peep sights, sling and 10rnd mags. Very reliable with full length sized reloads and first 3 shots were accurate. When the barrel heated up the shots were all over the place. It might be good to have a couple 10 rnd mags around but for...

On Remington 700 Long Range, 30-06

Gentlemen, I want one of these rifles to match in caliber my M1 Garand. As others have I assumed the lack of availability was because of the recall. Maybe not so. I know from years experience with Remingtons that with something new, Remington puts out a short production run to gage market...

    Why No 30 06

Simplifying my life. Reducing calibers. I recently got back a National Match Garand that I sold years ago. I'm buying a Remington 700 Long Range in 30-06 to match the Garand when they hit the shelves. Staying with 30-06 to reduce inventory of bullets, powders, bullets. I'm only shooting to...

    Rem 40X Trainer Question

I can't believe this thread is still alive but it is relevant. I still love my 40X for close range practice but .22s got so hard to get I'm just shooting my .223 700 Milspec at 100yds for my big bore practice. I reload my own so its cheap and available. You could be in business with a 700SPS...

I have another question regarding optmal scope magification for 200 yard shooting.

the Weavers, the Leupold 6.5-20x EFR and the Bushnell 6-24x40 4200 can focus from like 10 yards to infinity, have ample magnification and accurate adjustments for rimfire from 10 to 200 yds. I used them all but use the EFR now. I use Burris Signature rings with offset inserts to center my...

    Range Report Help with .223 75gn VS .204 Ruger 40GN wind deflection @ 600yds

Got it I thought maybe in this instance much higher velocity of the 204 trumped the higher BC of the 75 gn Hornandy;s that I've used in my RRA Varmint and .223 700 MilSpec, Thanks
