Ishallbie pretty much has it right. I started with the 285's also. Ran 3 rounds over a chrono, should be good, off to the range to test. Do all my testing at 1000 yards, 36" round disc. Shot 1, center about 3" low. Shot 2, no hit, no idea where it went, wasn't expecting a miss. Shot 3...
I assume your neck tension is fairly close, primers are seated at least flush. Check the stem on the seating die, make sure it is not seating on the tip of the bullet. Davidson Ogive tool might give you better readings.
Rem7, hope it works if you try it. I use this method on 3 calibers that I push hard. milo, one happens to be a 6.5 saum I have been shooting for a few years using the 7mm case.
Might try the old body die trick. Take a body die and cut the top off below the shoulder and then trim the bottom until it sizes the case small enough. You'll have to resize the case afterward to bump the shoulder back. This usually works if you only need a .001 or .002.
Re: Video Scoping... Go to SavageShooters.com and under Picture Posts look for "Web Cam Pictures". Should be right on the 1st page. Might be useful for you, maybe not. I use the setup for watching bean bears @ 1000 yards. Take picture's or movies right to your laptop. Later, Brad
Re: 6.5mm SAUM Bean Bear @ 988 Thanks guys, Brad Arnett made a post about it in the bolt action rifles section on 03-07-2010. Do not have many picture's of it yet. Gary Eliseo S1 stock Savage Target action Krieger 30" Med Palma - 8.5 - 4 grove barrel NXS 5.5x22x56 NP-R1 David Kiff does...
Re: 6.5mm SAUM Bean Bear @ 988 The RL25 load that I am shooting now, 3160fps. Nice soft load and excellent accuracy. 21.25 MOA gets me to 1000 with 100yd 0. Brad
Re: 6.5mm SAUM Bean Bear @ 988 Thanks Mike, Tuesday (tomorrow) is when I'm going up again. It's so nice, I do feel a little guilty shooting it. Take it easy and heal up fast! Later, Brad B.
Great day for the new build. Got to the range and set up, took a sighter for windage @ 1000. Everything looked pretty good. Actually a nice day here in Indiana, mid 60's and a 2-6mph wind from the right. I just set back and waited. Talked to some of the other shooter's to pass the day waiting...
Re: 1000 yard fun Nice place, isn't it. My second home. Looks like you had some fun. Did you have a radio system? I shot last week and in the back of the Gator I found a few radio's and a couple of tripods. It was raining my day and put these items in the paint can chest for safe keeping...
Re: 6.5 SAUM Tube Gun Since Brad Arnett started this post, I'll do a quick range report to end it. Returned to the range Friday for more testing. A little more serious this time. 3 loads again for tests @ 1000. Narrowed it down to 62.02gr and 62.32gr after a few rounds. For a final test I...
Re: 6.5 SAUM Tube Gun Going to try some of the 140gr A-MAX when I get time. The 123's might go faster than 3300. When I put some heat into the 139gr Scenars they run 3270. The 123's will probably be too short for me to run. Running 2.320 base to ogive on the 139's. Later, Brad
Re: 6.5 SAUM Tube Gun Hi guys, Good seeing you again Mike and Brad. 6.5mm looks to have some promise. Got to laugh about the barrel life. Told the guys I was going to make a bracket to hold a spare barrel right on the gun so I'll have one handy. Will be interesting to see how long they...
Monday 08/31/09 I got to the range and cleaned my .308 and .300 before shooting. After cleaning the .300 saum I fired 3 sighter shots to check elevation @ 1000 for the day. 23.0 MOA elevation seemed to be pretty close as you can see. I went to the range to relax and keep watch for groundhogs and...
Re: Sierra 135 MK Loads Sent some of these when they first came out. Good little bullet. Rated @ .395 bc. 26" barrel,10 twist. Loaded @ 2.135 base to ogive gave me .032 off the lands. 47.50 gr Varget produced 3010 fps using Black Hills match brass and 210M primers. The 2.135 base to ogive is...
