I place my steel at ranges that give me about 1moa - 2moa of target area depending on the shooting position. I find I get lazy with my positions/technique when I engage larger targets. It feels good to hit a coldbore shot at 1000yds, but when it's 36", it doesn't tell you much.
You're response was exactly what I was looking for. I just wanted to make sure this didn't appear to be about me and what I'm looking for, but more about how you would invest your resources to become a competent marksman.
Thanks for the responses, gents. I guess I should have clarified: I've been in the long range game since 2006 when I passed the indoc for 3/7 Scout Sniper Platoon. I've been competing in matches since I got out of the Marine Corps in 2008 and fancy myself a competent marksman. The reason for...
We all have limited time and money to invest in our passion of long range shooting. I am always interested to see where people invest these resources in order to become a competent long range marksman. I realize that this maybe way over/under some people's budgets: To set a uniform baseline...
Hey Gents, thanks for all the replies; this has been a very interesting discussion. I retested last night with a stripped bolt and applying back pressure had different results. I'll post them up this evening.
Allow me to rephrase: though this method may not simulate the back pressure of a fired cartridge, it clearly shows uneven lug contact. It would therfore be logical to assume that though it may be possible for both lugs to make contact during firing, they would still be making unequal contact...
Thanks for the reply 300sniper. I would be interested to hear how a lug can make contact during firing and not during locking/unlocking. It also doesn't address the issue of clearly unequal contact.
A good friend of mine recently tested the bolt lug contact of his stock Tikka T3 action and compared it to the bolt lugs on his custom Remington 700. The gunsmith that did the work on his 700 was a very reputable gunsmith. The lugs on the Tikka had well over 80% contact on both lugs evenly...
Wilson was in his armored vehicle when “an insurgent posing as a civilian retrieved an AK-47 from a poppy field 20 meters away and opened fire on four Marines in the downed vehicle, critically wounding the Marine in the rear of the vehicle,” states the citation accompanying the Silver Star...
Sgt. Wade Wilson served with 2nd Battalion 5th Marines out of Camp Pendleton, California. He was KIA May 11th, 2012 in Afghanistan and posthumously received the Silver Star. He had been in the middle of piecing this project together when he was killed. Several other Marines, including myself...
Just for clarification: you mentioned that once the course starts we will not be allowed back to our vehicles. Does this mean the entire 2 day match we will be living out of our packs, or do we get to go back to our vehicles on Saturday night?
