I'm not clear on this so I ask for help...what do I gain buying an old Rem 700 for the action & then pay my Smith to true it & then fit it to my custom build per say too just buying a new custom action & having spent almost the same amount. Other than just having a true custom rifle.

Re: Picking a gunsmith I meet up with him @ his shop. He showed me some rifle work he has done & the groups they were putting out. Impressive as all get out. I will contact some of the clients he has had. Does impressive work I think thus far. Old clientele will make the final impression though.

Krieger barrel...26" w/schrez brake H-S Precision stock Shilen trigger Rem. 700 action Talley scope rings on schrez custom bases This is going to be a field rifle. Not sure about scope yet. Stock subject to change...might go w/McMillan... I'm learning as I'm going. Will see my gunsmith on...

Re: Picking a gunsmith I know what you mean. Very true...every trades-man if you will have their own ways. I have heard good things about him as an individual...just need to research his work. It would be nice to have a local smith I could count on. Patience I think with a gunsmith is a must...

Re: New rifle build up question They do. I worded that wrong. I contacted savage to see what they can do. I was put through to their custom shop. 6 weeks for a barrel. I didn't pull the trigger on it though.

Re: New rifle build up question That's probably my problem. Either customizing a remington or building from ground up. I want to do from ground up. Believe it or not think that was my problem. Just got hung up on the remington vs. savage...so to say. Would be happier with my own setup so to...
